Chapter 23 - Chapter 22: Carelessness

"Those goblin daggers. You didn't sell them to the Guild, right?"

Hestia spoke with a smile.

From Hestia's perspective, Bell would definitely not sell such things to the Guild.

After all, if the Guild gets rid of those items, it wouldn't take long for the gods to find out about Bell.

However, Hestia didn't think this would happen. She knew Bell was careful and cautious, and he would never make such a careless mistake.

Hestia isn't wrong.

The Guild would have found other channels to sell such things, especially items that would attract attention once they were sold.

The problem, however, was that Bell had only been in Orario for two days and didn't have much experience with these kinds of situations.

After listening to what Hestia said, Bell truly felt embarrassed. He had really acted stupid. He had gone straight to the Guild with so many daggers without thinking.

Instead of thinking of using the connection through Hephaestus, Bell had to get rid of them through the Guild.

This left Bell at a loss for words.

Hestia laughed for a while, but when she didn't hear Bell respond, her laughter gradually faded. She then noticed Bell's awkwardness and looked at her with an odd expression.

Hestia's face twitched, but she couldn't help but ask.

"Bell-kun, you didn't actually sell those things to the Guild, did you?"

"...Um."

"Umu?!"

Hestia's eyes widened in disbelief. She couldn't believe her ears.

How could Bell, who had always been so cautious, make such a rookie mistake?

Even though the Guild was an organization, anyone who wanted to know something could easily extract information from within the Guild.

"Bell-kun, don't you know? The Guild is a place that sells information. They don't just deal with information about the Dungeon but also about the Guild itself—the kinds of things you're not supposed to talk about. As long as you offer them something good, they'll easily get the information out."

"Hestia-sama, actually... I've only been in Orario for two days."

'Oh, I forgot—Bell is just a newcomer from the countryside who came to Orario.'

Hestia immediately slapped her own face.

Since he didn't act like a newbie, Hestia instinctively assumed he should know about these things.

She realized that this wasn't Bell's fault and it was her responsibility as the goddess to have reminded him about such matters.

However, the situation with the Guild was troublesome.

Who knows if someone at the guild already found out and told other gods about Bell? If that's the case, Hestia felt a headache coming on.

Seeing Hestia looking so troubled, Bell felt a little embarrassed.

Bell had instinctively thought of the Guild when dealing with those items because it was his first time dealing with such a situation. He had forgotten that the Guild was also a big problem.

Eina had also mentioned something similar to him earlier. Thinking about Eina, Bell suddenly realized something.

"Hestia-sama, when I went to the Guild earlier, I also had Miss Eina help me. She knows some of my situation because of the daggers."

"Eina... Eina Tulle? The top receptionist at the Guild?"

Hestia immediately pictured Eina Tulle in her mind. She had recently interacted with her and knew that Eina was a half-elf.

The half-elf wasn't a bad person at all. In fact, she was very serious and dedicated to helping others. However, Hestia hadn't expected Eina to be Bell's advisor.

"I've met that half-elf too, but I can't be sure she can keep your secrets. Bell-kun, you shouldn't trust everything about the Guild. The Guild has many receptionists who might sell out sensitive information. This is also one of the reasons why Uranos instructed the Guild's receptionists not to interact too closely with adventurers."

It turned out that there were indeed issues when Guild receptionists got too close to adventurers.

Hestia remembered that Hephaestus had mentioned that the Guild had faced such problems when it was first established, and they had even gone so far as to clean out all the old receptionists.

It was only after that that the Guild implemented very strict rules for their receptionists.

Of course, rules are strict, but people are not.

Even though receptionists were not allowed to form close relationships with adventurers, there was no rule against them forming close relationships with gods.

Therefore, many receptionists still inadvertently share secrets they were supposed to keep.

It wasn't necessarily a leak, but it was just a casual conversation that happened to be overheard by the gods.

Since they had found a loophole, the receptionists would not be punished even if it's found out later.

After the first case, similar incidents began to happen more and more frequently.

It was around that time that some gods would casually be asked about certain information whenever they interacted with receptionists.

Once they received the information, the gods would give the receptionists a little "information fee."

However, they don't call it an information fee for secret info—it was just a standard service fee for their work, and it wasn't even seen as bribery.

Therefore, once Hephaestus became aware of how the Guild operated, Hestia began to view the Guild as information.

Even though Hestia was still worried, Bell had confidence in Eina.

"Hestia-sama, I think Miss Eina will keep the secret. She already warned me about those things when I was at the Guild. She even mentioned that selling the daggers to the Guild could expose my identity. I think it shouldn't be a problem this time, but I might need your help in the future, Hestia-sama."

Hestia still had some concerns about Eina. She trusted Bell, but she didn't trust the Guild receptionists.

After all, the Guild could leak anytime—how could she trust that the receptionists there would be able to keep Bell's secrets?

Despite this, Hestia kept her worry to herself.

Even though she was uneasy about Eina, she didn't want Bell to start worrying about it too.

After the matter was settled, Hestia knew she would have to meet with Eina in person to confirm that she had handled Bell's situation properly.
