Chapter 29 - Chapter 28: Gacha

After understanding the situation, Bell didn't go looking for Hestia.

Right now, Hestia is staying at Hephaestus's place, and it would've been inappropriate for him to visit.

Since it was already evening, Bell just decided to lie down on his bed. This time of day was his own, and it was the perfect moment to try out the gacha feature of the Type-Moon system.

'Even though I'm 200 million valis in debt, I should be able to use a little bit of spare change to try a pull.'

Bell knew well enough that a debt of 200 million valis couldn't be paid off overnight. He had 26.4 million valis in total, and 20 million valis would go towards paying off his debt.

The remaining 6.4 million Farlis would at least be for his daily expenses. Luckily, a ten-pull wasn't expensive—just 10,000 valis was enough.

Bell took out ten 10,000 valis gold coins from his inventory. As soon as the ten gold coins appeared, they began to emit a golden glow.

Suddenly, a rift tore open in the void, and all that golden light was completely absorbed into it.

Seeing the system absorb the coins like this, Bell was a bit stunned. The coins turned into golden light particles and were absorbed.

"It doesn't seem like the system needs the coins itself... but rather something of value on them. The coins are basically symbols of trust. Does that mean the system wants something like faith?"

Bell didn't quite understand, and it was all too far beyond his reach.

"Let's start with a ten-pull."

The system immediately activated after taking the 100,000 valis.

'I hope my luck here would work here.'

Then, a hundred cards shot out from the void all at once.

Bell glanced at them, and most of the cards were one-star or two-star items.

The only three-star item was the guaranteed one from the ten-pull, and there wasn't even an extra three-star item.

Bell wasn't particularly surprised by the result. Even though his luck is EX, the system must be blocking all external influences.

'It looks like my luck's only good enough to hit the guaranteed minimum. However, they won't be so bad once I upgrade those one-star and two-star items. I just don't know what kind of help those items will give me.'

Bell had never had any prior experience with gacha pulls, and he wasn't sure whether these items could actually help him significantly.

Shaking his head, Bell shifted his attention to the ten guaranteed 3-star item.

As soon as he looked at them, Bell couldn't help but exclaim in his mind, "Good stuff."

[Extremely Spicy Mapo Tofu

Hidden Blade - Pheasant Reversal

Kuji Kanesada

Hydra Dagger

Spell Tome]

Looking at these pulls, Bell couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed, but that disappointment quickly faded.

Sure, they weren't the items he wanted, and they were probably a few levels below what he wanted, but they weren't terrible either.

"Kuji Kanesada should be the sword used by Shiki Ryougi, right? It's not a divine weapon, but it's a family heirloom from the Ryougi family, and its quality shouldn't be too bad."

"Hidden Blade - Pheasant Reversal....? I will probably upgrade this to try and get Hiken: Tsubame Gaeshi."

"Extremely Spicy Mapo Tofu is probably healing... maybe I can eat it."

"Hydra Dagger should be considered a decent weapon. However, this dagger was never designed to kill people and was made for poisoning. It has a lot of barbs and is double-edged—perfect for backstabbing, but it's not very useful in a fair fight."

Bell drew the card for "Hydra Dagger." The card-type item immediately disappeared, turning into two silver-white daggers.

"It can transform from a card into a physical object. In that case, the divine weapons I had been thinking of are not just a fantasy."

For a dagger, Bell could use the one crafted by Hephaestus. If he was lucky enough to draw a "Divine Weapon" in the future, it might serve as a longsword.

Of course, the "Divine Weapon" was just a trump card, and he didn't even know if it could actually be used.

A holy sword like Excalibur isn't something that just anyone can wield, and who knows if the holy sword pulled from a gacha might have some kind of worthy issue.

If that's the case, Bell probably wouldn't be able to use it even if he pulled one.

He thought it was best not to expect much and not get his hopes up too much.

He then shifted his focus to the "Hidden Blade - Pheasant Reversal." Among the ten 3-star items, this one had appeared five times.

This item was based on Sasaki Kojiro's sword technique, "Tsubame Gaeshi" (Swallow Reversal), but Bell wasn't sure if it could replicate the legendary "Tsubame Gaeshi" that was said to happen with the technique.

'System, I want to upgrade this item.'

As soon as Bell thought this, a line of text appeared in front of him.

[1,000,000 valis.]

The expensive cost almost made Bell press "No."

He only had a total of 6,400,000 valis, and now upgrading a three-star item would cost 1,000,000 valis.

This expense was far more expensive than the pulling gacha.

Bell couldn't help but wonder if this was a standard cost for an upgrade or if it was specifically the cost for enhancing 3-star artifacts.

He almost winced in pain before pressing "Yes." He heard a click sound, and his available balance instantly dropped from 6.3 million valis to 5.3 million valis.

This single upgrade had cost him ten times more than a single gacha pull.

The five "Hidden Blade - Pheasant Reversal" cards slowly spun in the air without any flashy effects and merged into a single card.

Bell took a deep breath, grabbed the card, and glanced at it.

The name on the item had changed, bringing him unexpected joy and erasing the pain he had felt earlier.

"Hiken: Tsubame Gaeshi."

The background had also changed.

It was no longer Sasaki Kojiro and Fuma Kotaro, but now it was just Sasaki Kojiro holding his sword in the Tsubame Gaeshi stance.

'So, does this mean I spent almost 1,100,000 valis and got Sasaki Kojiro's secret technique?'

Bell couldn't wait to see how good this technique was, but how exactly was he supposed to use it?

Just as Bell was thinking about it, the card in his hand became a stream of information and flew into his forehead.

In that moment, a person's entire life slowly appeared in Bell's mind.

This person had no name, no background, and no known origin, like someone whose past and future were blank. The life of this individual was equally simple and straightforward.

There were no exciting adventures or quests for fame, just a quiet life spent practicing swordsmanship. He didn't fight to be famous and only did what he truly wanted.

This nameless swordsman showed Bell his entire life.

This nameless swordsman continuously worked hard, was entirely devoted to sword practice, and spent time researching how to strike down a shallow flying at high speed.

The shallow easily evaded a single sword strike, and even two strikes could be dodged.

The nameless swordsman refined this technique little by little, and finally, he perfected the skill and succeeded in cutting down the swallow in the final moments of his life.

Bell clearly saw the life of this nameless swordsman with his own eyes.

There were no moments of despair or joy—just a steady, focused practice driven by his passion.

"It's really the Tsubame Gaeshi…"

Bell whispered in awe.

Right now, Bell could feel his brain telling him, "Tsubame Gaeshi has been learned."

However, Bell also knew that feeling was just an illusion. It was a feeling brought on by having experienced the life of the nameless swordsman.

Besides Tsubame Gaeshi, Bell also gained a lot more.

The life of the nameless swordsman, someone so skilled that he could complete Tsubame Gaeshi, was full of other experiences with other weapons as well—and Bell now had that knowledge too.

"I know how to perform Tsubame Gaeshi now, but that kind of technique is not something an ordinary person can achieve. A technique that can bend space like that can't be learned by just practicing hard. If I hadn't experienced that swordsman's life, trying to master Tsubame Gaeshi would have been a foolish dream."

Bell knew that he didn't possess the innate talent to fully master Tsubame Gaeshi, but he had gained the key to reach that level.

Perhaps he lacked the required talent, but he had acquired the life experience necessary to achieve Tsubame Gaeshi.

After calming down a little, Bell remembered that he still hadn't looked at the spell tome he got.

He didn't really remember what the "Spell Tome" was even supposed to do. After all, there were so many items in FGO, and while he had some knowledge about them, Bell wasn't thoroughly familiar with each one.

'Wait a minute... could this Spell Tome be that kind of magic book?'

Bell wondered.

He vaguely remembered that there were special magic books that could teach people how to use magic in this city.

In the original story, the original Bell got a magic book as a gift from the goddess of beauty, and that's how he learned magic without even needing to chant spells.

Bell remembered that kind of magic book was super rare and worth about as much as a top-tier weapon.

'So... if this really is a magic book like that... could I maybe use it to pay off some debt?'

Bell thought hopefully.

However, Bell wasn't sure if the item named "Spell Tome" had such an effect.

Even if it did, Bell couldn't just hand it over to someone else. After all, the origin behind it would be difficult to explain.

So, if it truly was a magic book, it would be better to just keep it and use it himself. Moreover, taking it out to settle a debt would only cause unnecessary trouble.
