As the bracelet fit and glowed on my wrist, I could feel my power change in flow within me.
A calming feeling that regulated the flow of my energy. A thought came to my mind.
"With this thing, I'm sure I could definitely use my powers to--'
"You're not going to use your powers now. Isn't that right, Atticus?" Emma interrupted as though she was reading my mind.
"Of course, dear teacher. I wouldn't dream of it." I responded with a bright but forced smile.
"Now then, I brought someone else to play with you. She's just your age, I'm sure you'll get along pretty well." My father spoke up, turning to the door.
As it opened up, my mother came in with someone behind her.
A young girl who was just my age with shoulder length black hair. She wore a beautifully decorated dress with a red scarf. Now that I see her brown eyes, she looks familiar.
"This is Kendal. She'll be staying with us here for a while. I'm sure you'll enjoy her company. Emma was tour only friend. Aren't you happy to find one more?" My father said as he offered a handshake to the girl.
Oh, now I remember who she is. Kendal Radars, a child of my father's twin brother. If I'm right, she was born exactly two months after me. At least, that's what the family register says.
I wasn't exactly buddy buddy with her. But she was somewhat reserved and approachable. I often thought she was dumb. But I guess I'm just that bad at reading characters.
Ahh, damn it. Now I have someone who will really be a drag behind me. If I don't want my folks to think I have socialising problems, I should treat her well, right?
As a gentleman I am in my small body, I went down to her.
"Hello." I said as I took steady steps towards her.
"Go on dear, this is your brother. You should say hello." My mother coaxed Kendal and whispered to her.
The girl walked from behind her and stood before me with her head down. I went to my pillow and pulled out two more sweets. I handed them to Kendal with a comforting smile.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Atticus Von Radars. Would you be my friend?" I spoke to her openly.
Her eyes widened and her face looked a little red. She went back behind my mother and peeked shyly.
This is getting a bit too much. What are we, romance novel characters meeting for the first time. I don't have time for this. I'd rather go back to bed than waste my time like this.
"My name is Kendal... Radars. Pleasure to meet you." Kendal spoke with a voice that sounded like she wanted to disappear.
"Mom, I think my fever is gone. Can we go out now? Emma can come with us if Kendal is not comfortable." I said to looking at Emma.
"Look at you talking like an adult already. That's my son. Go ahead darling, but you should get a change of clothes first." With that said, we left the house.
We had ourselves a good time just walking around and showing Kendal the estate and everything around. Emma had a book most of the time. And I was the one stuck doing baby management.
I guess I can't complain since it was my idea. After some time, we came to a rest in the backyard. The sound of water from the fountain calming.
Kendal seemed tired so Emma carried her and she fell asleep on her lap.
"What's up with you?" Emma said after realising we had our freedom moment.
"Whatever do you mean?" I asked nonchalantly.
"It's not like you to be so open. You know this girl and you've met her. I don't get why you would be so open now. If I recall, you used to ignore and avoid other children. Especially ones like her." She said bluntly.
"There many reasons really. I want to look normal. Like any other child in society. If she'll be staying with us, she'll spend time around me. That means she'll find my secret sooner pr later. Simply, I think you can call this grooming." I explained to her. The truth is, I wasn't lying about anything I said.
"So you're going to manipulate the poor girl? Don't you think that's too much? What if she gets too attached to you? You're not planning to toy with her are you?" Emma looked at me with a judging look.
"My God what do you take me for. I said I wanna look normal. None of what you said is normal. Heavens know I see any intimate relationship with her as straight up rape. Instead, I'll get her someone who who's just her age." I said to her.
If I'm being honest, I don't even know my stand in society. Whether I should consider myself old or young. I still don't know. If I'm reincarnated and don't have my past memories, I'm young.
If I regain my memories, I'll be old. But society won't see that. Which gets me in a tight spot. I don't know what kind of life I should start building.
So I decide to just make them friends. I'll make the final decision when the time comes.
"Really? That doesn't sound all to bad I guess. Considering your position and all, I kind of understand. So, who's your target Mr matchmaker?" Emma asked curiously.
"Honestly, I don't have any. I guess you'll have to look in my place. Even if he's a commoner, he's fine. Love has no boundaries after all. I just want to continue this peaceful life." I said taking a deep breath.
I say that. But something still bothers me. What exactly did I promise. And why shouldn't I pray to anyone?
"Ohh, a question. Will I be at to take this off as I will?" I asked looking at the bracelet.
"Nnnno." Emma said simply.
