Shin filled his lungs, taking a large breath before launching himself at his dad, who was in his battle stance.

"Set… Go!"

Shin launched himself at his dad, who also charged at him, activating his Quirk as transparent strings erupted from his father's five fingers, swinging toward his son. Shin ducked, evading the attack, which sliced the trees in half.

"You wanna kill me, Dad?"

"I won't go easy on you, Shin. So, you gotta give it your all if you're determined to become a hero!"

"You asked for it."

Shin activated his Quirk while Nakamura glanced at him, doing the same. They both charged at each other as Shin sent a series of strings at his dad, who pivoted to his left, dodging the attack easily.

'Nice try,' Nakamura remarked, seeing a little progress from his son. Shin swung his right arm at his dad as the strings obeyed him, following his father, who was leaping from one tree to another.

"Dad's fast!" Shin muttered to himself, seeing his attacks hadn't touched his dad. "How about this!"

Shin swung both hands, his strings slicing through the giant trees around them, making it impossible for his dad to dodge.

"He's preventing me from dodging?" Nakamura whispered to himself as he unleashed his own attack at his son, who backflipped away from it. "He's got a fat body, but yet he's also a little bit fast."

"String Puppet!!"

Shin felt his body tingling the moment his dad exclaimed his attack, making him feel a little nostalgic. Before he could attack again, he felt his body not responding to his movements. "What did you do to me, Dad?"

"Hehe… it's my secret attack. I learned it way back."

Shin smirked and tried to attack once again, but his body grew numb, moving on its own as his dad manipulated his fingers, forcing Shin's body to obey.

Shin's eyes widened when he noticed strings attached to his body, connected to his dad's fingers.

"You're now my puppet, Shin."

Shin struggled to break free, but it was impossible while his dad enjoyed himself, using his strings to control his son, who began dancing.

"Rika is gonna love this—seeing her big brother dancing."

"Stop it, Dad!"

"You give up?"

"Y-Yes, I give up, Dad."

The moment Nakamura deactivated his Quirk and freed Shin from the attack, Shin fell to his knees, gasping for air, before standing up.

"Round 2, Dad!"

"Eh?… Still wanna continu—"

Nakamura barely dodged by tilting his head sideways, seeing the long whip attached to Shin's hand.

Nakamura sent a series of string bullets from his left hand to distract Shin, who accidentally fell for it. The moment Shin dodged, his dad quickly webbed him with a string and pulled Shin toward himself, punching his abdomen and sending him skidding backward, crashing through the trees.

"Do you wanna kill your son, Dad?"

"Hehehe."

Shin picked himself up from the ground, his body covered in dirt and blood. He lunged forward at full speed, landing a heavy kick, which Nakamura caught. Shin gritted his teeth in frustration before being sent flying through the woods once more.

"That's it for today, Shin."

Shin lay on the ground, glancing at the blue sky while breathing heavily, blood streaming from his wounds.

He stood up and walked over to his dad, who was on his smartphone, facetiming his brother. "Say, Shin, do you really want to get stronger?"

"Yeah, sure."

Nakamura let out a sigh while scratching the back of his head. "Alright, then I'll link you up with Uncle Doffy."

"Really?"

"Yeah, son. I think he might be able to help you use your Quirk better since I learned a thing or two from him many years ago."

"Sure."

After the brief chatter between father and son, they set off on their journey back home from the woods where they had trained, Shin noticed the U.A entrance exam drew closer as the day passed.

Few more months to go….

"Dad, since you're strong, why did you choose to become a firefighter and not a hero? I mean, you'd be able to save many lives."

Nakamura scratched the back of his head as he reminisced about the old days when he and his brother, Doflamingo, were a crazy duo—before the incident.

"That was your uncle's dream, not mine. He was determined to become a hero who saved lives with a smile, but… a lot happened."

"What happened?"

"He was framed by his friend, who killed someone, and he was arrested, serving a three-year sentence in prison. After his release, he told me he'd leave Japan the following week for Korea to start his life over."

"Woah, woah… talk about rats and snitches."

"Well, that's that. Focus on your junior high final exams first. After that, I'll send you to Korea to meet Uncle Doffy."

"I'm excited… can't wait."

Shin turned on the music in the car on their way home. The ride was great—they both enjoyed themselves to the fullest, even though Shin had been thrown around earlier. He was still enjoying it.

"Hm… what's with the traffic?"

Nakamura sensed something was wrong, so he turned off the engine and opened the door. "Shin, stay inside. Let me see what's causing the traffic."

Shin nodded and turned his gaze back to his smartphone, chatting with school friends. Nakamura noticed something was definitely off—there was a commotion ahead.

"Hey, what's happening?" Nakamura asked a woman running toward his car.

"A-A villain attack!" She murmured before continuing to flee.

"Where are the heroes?"

The road had turned into chaos—people abandoned their cars, running for their lives—while Shin remained focused on his phone, unaware of the situation.

'A villain attacks in the middle of the day? What are the heroes doing?' Nakamura thought as he moved toward the disturbance.

"Let go of her!" Nakamura exclaimed.

"Huh? Who the hell do you think you are?"

Nakamura glared at the villain, whose hands were drilling machines—clearly the effect of his Quirk.

No heroes, no cops? Then I guess I'll be the hero for today…

Nakamura knew he had to act fast to get home. He cracked his neck and shoulders, stepping forward through the panicked crowd.

"String Puppet!"

He shot a string into the villain's neck with a smirk, tilting his fingers. The villain froze, struggling to move.

"What did you do to my body, you bastard?"

"Ho? That so?" Nakamura lunged forward, delivering a powerful punch to the villain's face, sending him crashing into a nearby pole.

"You call yourself a villain when a random civilian can defeat you with one punch? Pathetic."

"Hooray!!"

He approached the woman sitting on the ground and helped her up. "Are you alright?"

"Y-Yes… thank you for saving me."

Despite not being a hero, Nakamura had played the role for a moment, saving someone without anyone realizing he'd used his Quirk.

"Well, if you'll excuse me, I should head back to my car now." He dashed away, his heart pounding as if chased by a cheetah.

"Huh? Why are you breathing so fast, Dad?" Shin lowered his headphones as his dad got back into the car.

"Your dad just saved the day. Anyway, let's head home now."

"Weird."

Shin turned back to his phone as his dad drove off. The day had been peaceful—but Shin didn't know his little sister had been waiting all day for him to return so she could play with him, having spent the day napping with their mom… l9
