CHAPTER START

"Get your fat ass up, Shin!" Nakamura exclaimed as he instructed Shin during his training.

Shin's muscles ached, having turned sore from the workout. He crashed onto the floor face-first, trying to stabilize his breath while his dad glanced at him from the corner.

"Time's up, Shin! Let's get inside!"

"Right back at you!" Shin threw his dad a thumbs-up as he lay on the floor, gasping for breath. "UA's not for the weak."

He picked his heavy body up from the floor and waddled his way into the house to take a bath. Afterward, the family had a lovely time together at the table as they ate dinner.

They shared many stories and discussed the reason why their beloved son had decided to enroll in the hero course. They laughed together as the conversation flowed.

'A year until the UA exam, huh? I need to power up my quirk and not just be a fat, bald, weak asshole.'

The sun shone brightly through the windows as Shin used his pillow to cover his head and continue his peaceful sleep, even as the alarm rang loudly.

"Shit! Time for school!"

Shin hopped out of bed as fast as he could, not worrying about messy hair since he was bald. He glanced at the time—7:15 a.m.—and rushed into the bathroom to take a shower.

After putting on his black uniform, he grabbed his backpack and loaded it with spicy snacks, since he couldn't go without them. He hurried downstairs as the delicious scent of breakfast wafted from the kitchen, making his stomach growl.

"Shin, you're up? How was your night?"

"It was great, Mom."

"Aww, that's lovely." She smiled. "You never get out of bed unless I wake you up. What's the reason you're up so early?"

"Since it's Monday, I don't want to be late for school."

"Ho ho," she teased.

"Mom."

"Alright, sweetie, take your seat while I dish out your meal."

"Say no more, Mom."

He sat down while his mom served his food. He took his time enjoying the meal, realizing Rika was still asleep; otherwise, she would've wanted him to play with her.

"Thanks for the amazing food, Mom. I'll be on my way now."

"Take care."

She waved at her beloved son as he left the house for school. Shin hailed a cab and hopped inside as the driver took him to his school.

Shin paid the driver and stood in front of his middle school with a lazy smile on his face. He took a bold step inside the building alongside other students.

He reached the front of his classroom, where the words "Class 3E" were etched above the door. He slid the door open and walked in, noticing the atmosphere was filled with chatter from every corner. He quietly took his seat at the back row beside the window.

"Yo, Bald-kun!" A boy with a cat tail waved at Shin as he entered the class, causing the whole room to burst into laughter at the mention of his nickname.

"Sup, Kenzo!"

"Damn, Shin! You know, I never want to go bald like you, now or in the future."

"Huh? Being bald isn't as bad as y'all think."

"Ehhh? If I ever go bald, I won't be able to get a girlfriend!"

The whole class burst into laughter again as the door slid open, grabbing everyone's attention.

"Shit! I hate mathematics!" Shin whispered to himself.

"Good morning, class," the homeroom teacher greeted as he put on his glasses. "Take your seats and be quiet."

The class murmured into silence as they pulled out their math textbooks and notebooks from their backpacks. The class went on for a short period before the bell rang, signaling the end of math class.

The teacher took attendance and left the room after assigning homework to be submitted the next day.

The class erupted into chatter again, with some students playing around with their quirks.

"Hey, Shin, have you decided what school you'll go to after our final exams?"

"UA."

Silence fell over the class as they processed Shin's words.

"UA?!!!" the whole class exclaimed in shock, staring at the fat, bald boy who always ate snacks and read manga.

"That UA? I mean, UA UA?" a girl muttered.

"Yeah! That UA! I'll be enrolling there because I want to be a hero who saves people like All Might!" Shin felt a surge of pride.

"That's amazing, man… I don't think I'd be able to pass the exam. I heard it's really, really hard."

"Really? Well, I won't know until I experience it myself."

"Go be our hero, Shin! We're rooting for you!"

"Thanks, everyone. I won't disappoint you. Stay tuned because you'll see me on TV someday."

"Don't brag about it, Shin."

"Heheh."

And so, the entire Class 3E was amazed that someone among them was aiming to become a pro hero. They supported him as best as they could.

Shin and his buddy, Kisaki—a tall, dark figure with blonde hair and a quirk that allowed him to grow plants from his body—worked on their math assignment together before heading to the school cafeteria to order some food.

Shin couldn't wait to go home and continue his quirk training with his dad. He had inherited his dad's quirk, not his mom's.

The sound of the bell echoed through the school hallways as Shin grabbed his backpack and made his way home.

"Dad! Mom! Rika! I'm back!" Shin hurried upstairs to take a bath while his mom prepared his meal. He came downstairs shortly after.

"How was school?"

"Great. I told my friends I'll be enrolling at UA after my final exams here in junior high."

"Really? That's great. Are you the only one in your class enrolling at UA for the hero course?"

"Yeah. They all said it's impossible to get in, but they promised to support me in becoming a hero in the future."

"You've got some good friends. Try not to disappoint them, okay?"

"Yeah, Mom. I'm starving. Gotta eat before my training with Dad."

"Don't push yourself too hard, sweetie."

Shin's mouth moved left and right as he chewed his delicious meal, nodding in response to his mom.

"Don't worry, Shin. I'll do the dishes while you go train with your dad."

"Thanks, Mom."

"Dad! I'm all set. Let's get going."

"Down in two, Shin."

"Okay."

Nakamura put on his gym clothes and made his way downstairs to Shin. Both of them exited the house. "We'll be training in the nearby forest to avoid drawing too much attention."

"Sure."

Nakamura started the car engine, reversed, and drove off to the nearby forest to train his aspiring hero of a son.

"Hey, Shin, are you really going for it?"

"Hmm, what do you mean?"

"You know, UA isn't for the weak. It might get risky because, at some point, you'll definitely have to fight villains."

"Y-Yes, Dad. I'm ready to face any obstacles. I know UA doesn't accept the weak, so that's why I'll become strong—stronger than anyone."

"What can I say, huh? Do your best, and I'll cheer you on to become the greatest hero you've always wanted to be."

"Thanks, Dad. Do you think Rika will follow in my footsteps and become a hero too when she's older?"

"Never thought about that."

"Well, I hope Rika chooses the right path. It's her life, and I don't want to endanger her at all. So, for me, Dad… it might sound rude, but I don't want Rika to be a hero."

"Hm, why do you say that, Shin?"

"Because… because it's a very dangerous job. You'll be fighting villains for the rest of your life. Since I'm becoming a hero, I'll be her hero and protect all of you."

"That's amazing, Shin. If that's your wish, then aim for it." Nakamura wiped his eyes with his right hand. "Anyway, we're here. Let's get your ass training."

"I'm ready!"

Nakamura parked the car and led his son into the forest for their training. With the UA exam fast approaching, Shin had no time to waste.

'UA… I'll get in for sure.' Shin smirked at the thought as he prepared to master his quirk with his dad's help. He would show UA—no, the whole world—what a fat, bald boy could become.

"Let's begin," Nakamura said, clenching his fist and stretching his body to loosen up his stiff muscles.

"It's gonna be interesting…" Shin cracked his knuckles, neck, and shoulders as he distanced himself from his dad, ready to give it his all for his future self.
