Ian closed the laptop and steepled his fingers.
He lifted his gaze and stared directly into her eyes, starting, "I'm not stupid, Mia. I know you feel a certain way towards me."
Her face flushed instantly, and he could tell she was about to deny it. He didn't let her.
"That is inappropriate. I'm your boss, and you are my employee—my assistant. There should be no sort of sexual or romantic attachment between you and me. Do you understand that? Otherwise, I'll have no choice but to fire you."
She didn't speak. The silence stretched, making his head hurt.
"Mia—"
"I'll quit my job!" she blurted.
His brow shot up. "What?"
"Mr. Basti, I've felt this way since the very first day I met you. I tried not to, I really did, because I knew the consequences, but I just…I couldn't. I-if my job is the problem, I'll quit. My family is actually well off, and this job is just to keep me busy, nothing more, So…I'll resign."
Ian stared at her. For once, he didn't know what to say.
