Thunder, fire, and hurricane forces swirled into a massive sphere over a hundred meters in diameter, sweeping through the dense cloud of bats around Yu Tianming.
What had once looked like a giant red mist was instantly cleared out, leaving only a few scattered blood bats far in the distance.
These bats seemed to possess high intelligence. After most of their kind were wiped out, they no longer dared to approach Yu Tianming recklessly.
They didn't attack either—only hovered several hundred meters away, trailing him from afar.
Seeing this, Yu Tianming flicked his finger, shooting a few pale green wind blades toward the remaining bats.
But to his surprise, the blood bats' bodies shifted ever so slightly in the air, narrowly dodging the wind blades.
Yu Tianming's heart grew cold. These bats were unlike ordinary birds—they possessed a special sensory ability: ultrasound. They could detect attacks with extreme precision, unaffected even by spiritual power.
'Unless my speed surpasses the limit of their reaction time, it'll be hard to land a hit.'
Judging by the blood bats' quick reactions, this species was likely a rare mutation among bats. Whether in speed or attack power, they were top-tier—and they might even be venomous.
Perhaps frightened by the wind blades, the remaining bats pulled even farther away from Yu Tianming.
He didn't have the Blue Silver Domain to purify the surroundings. Since being teleported by Tang Chen's blood light, he had been resisting the pressure of that evil killing intent the entire time. This made his control over soul power significantly weaker, and he couldn't even use the tri-elemental beam from the Slaughter Arena.
'If I went all out just to kill a few bats, I'd burn through too much soul power.'
And on this road to hell, he needed to conserve his strength as much as possible. Who knew what other dangers still awaited?
Seeing the situation, Yu Tianming ignored the distant bats and started running forward in large strides.
This time, he began accelerating along the narrow road—only about half a foot wide—running faster and faster into the distance.
Yu Tianming's sudden speed boost caught the distant bats off guard. A few quickly flapped their wings and gave chase.
As they drew closer, Yu Tianming suddenly halted mid-sprint. A flash of golden lightning shot out from his palm.
A branched bolt of golden electricity struck the bats before they could react.
With the aid of his electromagnetic perception, every bolt hit perfectly. The few bats that had been pursuing him for so long fell into the abyss below, their bodies scorched black.
Yu Tianming turned expressionlessly and continued forward at high speed.
The air around him began to steadily heat up. The blood in the pool below now boiled like magma. Though the threat of the blood bats had been resolved, the rising heat from the chasm on both sides made Yu Tianming start to ponder.
Originally, the platform had been about a thousand meters above the blood pool. Now, that distance had decreased to roughly eight hundred meters.
'If this continues, the final part of the road might pass directly through the blood pool.'
That thought left Yu Tianming puzzled. 'I entered from the tunnel beneath the tavern, yet I've been descending this whole time—why is the exit still downward?'
'Was Slaughter City built into the small mountain behind the tavern? Maybe the teleportation sent me somewhere deeper?'
'Or could it be... that Slaughter City exists in a pocket dimension attached to the Douluo Continent?'
As he continued forward, another swarm of blood bats ahead sensed his presence.
"Screech—!" No one knew which bat cried out first, but in the next moment, all of them let out sharp, ear-piercing screeches that made Yu Tianming frown.
He sensed that just ahead, beneath the narrow road, a massive creature was hanging upside down.
Its body, hidden in the faint reddish light, glowed with a dark golden hue.
The beast was over four meters long, with two massive claws gripping the path. Each claw had a diameter of over a meter, deeply embedded in the stone.
As the surrounding bats screeched loudly, the dark-gold creature slowly unfolded its enormous wings—each one spanning ten meters.
With a sudden flap, its claws released their grip, and the beast soared into the air.
It was a Bat King—far larger than any ordinary blood bat.
Its entire body gleamed with a dark golden light. But the most terrifying part was that... it had three heads.
All the surrounding bats swooped in behind the massive dark-gold Three-Headed Bat, charging together toward Yu Tianming.
'If this were a dragon-type soul beast, this form would be perfect as one of my soul rings.'
Yu Tianming didn't move to meet the charge. Instead, he stood calmly, regulating his soul power while waiting for the Bat King to approach.
Within moments, the massive Three-Headed Bat King reached him.
The central head let out a sharp screech and immediately flapped its enormous wings, lunging straight at Yu Tianming.
Its giant body hadn't even reached him yet, but a wave of overwhelming pressure hit first. The gusts stirred up by its wings were more terrifying than the combined winds of all the previous blood bats.
Yu Tianming quickly judged that this Three-Headed Bat King's strength was far above that of a typical ten-thousand-year soul beast.
For most soul masters, fighting a flying creature of this size in such a narrow area would be a nightmare.
But Yu Tianming was different—he still hadn't unfolded his wings.
As the Bat King lunged at him, it didn't attack with claws. Instead, it let out a piercing screech. From its three heads, a wave of dark red ripples erupted, spreading straight toward Yu Tianming.
In an instant, Yu Tianming spread his wings and took to the air, dodging the wave as he flew directly toward the Three-Headed Bat King.
Boom!
A deafening explosion rang out.
The section of the narrow road where Yu Tianming had just stood was completely obliterated by the Bat King's dark red wave. Countless shards of rock plummeted into the abyss below.
But Yu Tianming wasn't fazed by the destruction of the path. Instead, he shot straight at the Three-Headed Bat King.
Seeing Yu Tianming soaring up from below, the Bat King didn't meet him head-on. Instead, it spread its massive wings wide and briefly hovered in the air.
As Yu Tianming closed in, the leftmost head of the Bat King suddenly emitted a golden wave—not toward Yu Tianming, but back at itself.
In the next instant, thick golden mist erupted from its body. The massive Three-Headed Bat King exploded into a swarm of hundreds of small golden bats, scattering in all directions.
Yu Tianming managed to smash a few with his wings, but the rest had already scattered.
