"Someone's here." She pulled back from Maya's embrace, spinning around with alertness.
"Let's get out of here." Maya stood up and helped Selene to her feet. They ran through the woods, branches catching at their clothes.
A figure emerged from the treeline, an old woman, barely four and a half feet tall, her silver hair wild and matted like storm clouds. Her clothes hung in tattered layers of deep purples and blacks. Deep lines carved her weathered face, and her eyes gleamed with malice. She let out a wicked cackle that seemed to echo from everywhere at once.
"Selene Adragon is back," she crooned, her voice like rustling dead leaves. Then her expression shifted to deadly seriousness as she turned away and dissolved into the air like smoke.
