"I'm sure," Selene whispered.
Lucian's breath stilled, and the change began. His veins darkened beneath his skin like rivers of shadow—deep blue, midnight black, royal purple, forest green, and crimson red. They were visible across his flesh. His muscles seemed to grow more defined, more powerful, as if the mortal façade he wore was finally dissolving.
Was this what he meant when he said, "I could show you what I truly am?"
His hazel eyes began to shift, darkening to crimson red. His canine teeth elongated slightly, sharp enough to be dangerous but not monstrous. He was beautiful and terrifying.
He looked at her for a long second, those transformed eyes searching her expression like he needed to see the truth of it written in her soul. She should have been terrified, but she didn't flinch. Didn't look away. Instead, she stared at him in wonder and admiration, at how magnificent and dangerous he looked in his true form.
