"If you'll excuse us, I think my sister and I have had enough of your family drama for one day," Shantel said, taking Claudia's hand. "Hopefully, this will be the very last."


"Are you sure you don't want to think about this, Claudia?" Mrs Spencer asked when she saw that they were actually going to leave. "You seriously don't want to end the engagement, do you?" she added.


Shantel sneered. "You're still far too young for me to attribute this to dementia, Mrs Spencer."


Clarence's expression hardened inexplicably. "Shantel Hale," he said in a low warning voice. "That's my mother you're speaking to."
