Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Deal

Balthazar then turned towards me, finally able to talk after the battle.

"Thanks for your help. So, you took care of Sun Lok?" Balthazar asked.

"Yes." I replied simply.

Balthazar was a little shocked similar to Horvath as while Sun Lok may not be as powerful as the likes of Horvath and himself, he was still very powerful yet was killed by a young man.

"Good work, I am glad he can't cause more harm, now get on." Balthazar replied as he then turned to Dave.

"We have to head back to drop off our metal friend here then we can talk some more." Balthazar said as Dave got on and we took off.

(10 Minutes Later)

We were still flying through the air on the eagle and Balthazar began to speak with Dave.

"We need a place to lay low, somewhere off Horvath's radar." Balthazar said.

"I think I can help with that." Dave said with a grin.

We were now walking towards an impound lot as Balthazar was carrying a piece of paper with him.

He walked over and handed the paper to one of the guys who worked at the impound lot as he walked toward what I knew was his old car.

"Yesh I might have to call you a tow." The guy said.

"That won't be necessary." Balthazar replied as he made his way to his car.

"Yeah, but this car's been impounded for like 10 years." He replied only to be shocked a moment later as the car turned on after Balthazar snapped his fingers while in the driver's seat.

"She missed me." He said to himself with a grin.

Dave and I got in the car, Balthazar magically making a third seat for me.

As we drove out the lot, all the dust and dirt on the car magically disappeared and the car looked brand new.

We then headed towards Dave's lab as this was the place that Dave felt would be perfect to train in.

(15 Minutes Later)

As we were walking into the lab, going down the metal staircase, Dave was explaining things about his lab.

"This was originally a subway turnaround, they let me work down here cuz some of my experiments skew a bit dangerous." Dave said.

When we got to the bottom of the stairs, Dave spoke up as he remembered something.

"Oh, my professor has a hookup so no one knows we're down here." He explained.

Balthazar put the grimhold down and made it invisible, Horvath was already captured, but I believe it was just an extra precaution.

I then paused and looked at Balthazar, he seemed to sense I wanted to ask something and waited for me.

"So I had hoped to propose a deal that I believe would be mutually beneficial." I said.

Balthazar seemed intrigued after all, this young man around the age of Dave, was able to not only beat Sun Lok, but injure Horvath. As long as the deal wasn't something that went against his morals, he had no issue with agreeing to it.

He nodded and looked more closely at me.

"What exactly did you have in mind?" He asked.

"So I will preface this by explaining some things. The school I told you about, Hogwarts, only covers 7 years of magical education and after that, we would be assigned a master that would further teach us. My master had died shortly after we met and so I am mostly self-taught, so I propose that you would take me as a student along with Dave, and in return, I'd help him to face Morgana." I explained, lying a bit as it was a lot easier than explaining I was from another universe.

Balthazar only had to think for a few moments before he turned back to Robert.

"I see no issue with you joining Dave in learning magic." Balthazar replied with a smile.

Balthazar was no longer some sort of sectarian who would horde his knowledge, he has long since realized that he would need more allies to face Morgana.

This young man is an ideal ally, his young age along with his clear magical prowess is evidence of his skill. If Balthazar was being honest, he would've thought the young man was the Prime Merlinean had Merlin's Dragon Ring not reacted to Dave.

He knew that Dave would need help facing Morgana, and Robert was the perfect person for the job.

"Thank you, Master Balthazar." I replied.

Balthazar nodded and then turned back to Dave.

"Now with that out of the way, I can finally give you something I never got the chance to give you, your Encantus." Balthazar said as he took out a small book.

Dave looked confused.

"I remember it being bigger." Dave said.

"Pocket edition." Balthazar said as he started to unfold the small book, it getting bigger and bigger with every unfolding explaining as he did.

"The Encantus is our textbook, the art, science, and history of Sorcery, including our recent history as well." Balthazar explained as he put the skinny book in Dave's hands.

Dave was amazed during the entire process then looked confused again at the size.

All of the sudden Balthazar pulled upwards from the book and all of the sudden it tripled in width, becoming heavy in Dave's hands.

"Oh, come on!" He complained as he struggled with the sudden weight.

Balthazar then opened the Encantus to a page that showed Dave in a family tree of sorts of other Sorcerers throughout history.

"See, there you are." Balthazar pointed out with a smile and Dave saw an image of him screaming in fear.

"Whoa." Dave said not commenting on the image so I didn't either.

Balthazar then walked toward the center of the room and pushed the objects in the room out of the way with telekinesis.

"Stand back please." He said to us.

He then began to breathe deeply and move his hands around until suddenly.

*Woosh*

A huge circle of green flame appeared around him, Dave was in awe the entire time, and as it finally died down he burned different symbols throughout the circle.

He then turned to us and spoke.

"This is the Merlin Circle, it focuses your energy, and helps you master new spells. It is where you will learn the art. When you step inside, you leave everything else behind. Once you enter, there is no going back." Balthazar said seriously to which Dave joked, only to have Balthazar stare at him which made him nervous.

Dave then stepped inside the center circle, right in front of Balthazar.

"I am Balthazar Blake, Sorcerer of the 777th degree, and you are my apprentice." He said to Dave.

Dave looked very excited. "Sweet." He said happily.

Balthazar then looked at me, "What level are you?" He asked.

"I'm not sure, as you know I am mostly self-taught." I replied.

'Of course I don't know my level, Wizards don't have a magical grading system like that'

"Very well, I can test you to see where you're at. That will allow me to determine where we should begin." He replied.
