Chapter 661 - 660. The Werewolf Clan.

Anyone who knows anything about Wolverine understands this:

Despite the name, Wolverine isn't exactly a wolf. His mutant gene is dominated by traits of the gulo gulo—the wolverine.

Also known as the glutton or skunk bear, the wolverine is the largest and fiercest of the weasel family. Relentless, savage, and absolutely fearless, it's not much different from its cousin, the honey badger.

Maybe that's why Jim kept giving Logan that odd look the whole way—like he was examining some rare, endangered species. There was a deep-rooted difference between Logan's biology and that of the wolf-kind, and Jim clearly noticed.

Logan knew full well the kid had mistaken him for someone else—likely a relative or pack member—but he didn't bother to correct him. Instead, he, Polaris, and Blink simply followed Jim down the dirt path toward the farm.

They had already learned a bit from Alex before arriving here. This world was teeming with dark entities—creatures that feasted on human flesh and blood. And from what they'd seen of Jim, it was clear he wasn't as harmless as his cheerful attitude made him appear.

Logan stayed quiet the entire walk, keeping the conversation to a minimum—less talking, fewer mistakes. It was the best way to avoid complications. What surprised him, though, was how chatty Jim turned out to be.

"Uncle, do you remember? It was you who taught me to hunt when I was little! We used to race across the plains, chasing down deer and hares. I miss those days so much. It's a shame what happened... after those demon hunters attacked us, the whole pack scattered. But now that you're back—don't leave again, alright?"

Logan opened his mouth, then said nothing. He honestly didn't know how to respond. Staring at Jim's smiling face, Logan had no desire whatsoever to get closer to this kid.

Sure, Logan was a mutant—a Homo superior, a being evolved beyond ordinary humans. But he never stopped being part of humanity.

Now, standing before something that clearly saw humans as prey, it was taking everything Logan had not to pop his claws and go berserk. Conversation was out of the question.

Behind him, Polaris and Blink remained silent too. But their eyes had already darkened with barely restrained fury.

From the moment Jim had referred to them as "food," Polaris had wanted to tear him apart. But she held back—because Logan hadn't made a move yet. She respected that. She wasn't the hardened mutant leader Alex remembered—she was still a rookie, still following Logan's lead.

After another fifteen minutes of walking, they finally arrived at a massive warehouse on the outskirts of the farmland.

It was clearly designed for storing lumber and heavy vehicles, built large and remote enough that no one would come snooping. As part of a privately owned estate, it was tucked far from the village—quiet, isolated, and ominous in the dark.

"This is the place," Jim said, gesturing with a flourish toward the looming building.

"It might not look like much, but it's the best we could find. Demon hunters are cracking down hard, and with most of our pack scattered, building a home here took everything we had."

Logan's nose twitched.

That smell.

The acrid, metallic scent of blood hit him full force—and after decades of war, combat, and tracking killers, he could tell instantly:

It wasn't animal blood.

It was human.

Logan clenched his fists.

He wasn't a superhero anymore. He'd stopped playing that role a long time ago. He'd tried to walk away from all the meaningless fights. But in this moment, standing before a slaughterhouse draped in darkness...

He couldn't lie to himself—he wanted to fight.

Logan slowly shifted his gaze from the warehouse to Jim's face. Without changing his expression, he raised a hand and gently patted Jim on the shoulder—but in his mind, he'd already prepared to slice the kid's head clean off.

Jim felt the weight of the touch on his shoulder but had no idea the man standing before him was a breath away from lethal violence. He just smiled back, teeth showing, staring into Logan's cold eyes.

But just as Logan was about to strike, the heavy warehouse doors creaked open from the inside.

The sound stopped the adamantium claws just before they burst out of his knuckles. Both Logan and Jim turned in unison. A young woman in her twenties stepped out.

She spotted them immediately and, after a brief pause, started walking over quickly.

"Emma, you're here!"

Jim's eyes lit up as he ran over, grabbed the woman's hand, and turned to Logan with a bright grin.

"Uncle, let me introduce you—this is my new girlfriend, Emma. She's not pureblood like us, but I really love her. Emma, this is my uncle, Alex."

"Nice to meet you, Uncle," Emma said with a polite smile, then glanced curiously at Polaris and Blink. "And these two are…?"

"Oh, them?" Jim chuckled and leaned in to whisper in Emma's ear. "They're a gift from my uncle. His welcome present."

Before Logan could say a word, Jim had already taken the lead.

Emma's brow furrowed, her voice tinged with suspicion. "You just walked through the woods dragging them along? Aren't you worried someone might have seen?"

Jim scoffed. "What's there to worry about? It's not like we haven't taken out demon hunters before. Don't forget, this family reunion was possible only because we captured the legendary 'Hunter Twins,' remember?"

As he said this, he strolled arrogantly over to Polaris, lifting a lock of her deep green hair to his nose and inhaling deeply.

"Besides, my uncle's a lone wolf. He's got the skills to back it up. I'm sure they know exactly what happens if they try to run."

Emma stayed silent after that.

Werewolves like these—especially the pureblood kind—were known for their wild nature. They were born, not turned, and that gave them an even more violent and arrogant disposition. As a turned werewolf herself, Emma understood the difference all too well.

There was a brief silence.

Just as Polaris's patience had run out and she was ready to strike, Emma stepped between them and gently pulled Jim back.

"Alright, take your uncle inside," she said softly. "I'll take care of the two girls. A lot of people are arriving tonight, and we need to be organized."

"You're the best," Jim beamed, pulling her into a quick hug. "What would I do without you?"

"Don't be silly. People are watching," Emma said, giving him a playful smack on the chest and blushing.

After sharing a few more sweet nothings, Jim returned to Logan's side.

"Come on, Uncle," he said cheerfully. "Dad and Uncle Darren have missed you like crazy. Every family dinner, they're always telling your old stories."

"That so..." Logan muttered, his voice gravelly and low.

He turned his head slightly, glancing back at Polaris and Blink. The two nodded at him with calm, confident eyes. Logan understood—if Emma was just a single turned werewolf, the girls would be fine.

At least, for now.

After exchanging a glance, Logan turned back to Jim with a faint smile—one that carried a hint of something unspoken beneath it.

"I've missed them a lot over the years too…" he said softly.

Jim, oblivious to the undertones in Logan's voice and the subtle meaning behind his words, simply grinned and took it at face value.

With a quick farewell, they split up at the warehouse entrance—Jim leading Logan deeper into the building, while Emma took Polaris and Blink toward a small, squat building not far off.

Quietly following Emma, neither Polaris nor Blink said a word, but both were fully prepared for combat.

Especially Polaris.

She had been ready since the start, silently levitating a sheet of scrap metal she had picked up from the roadside before entering the village. Though Logan had insisted he didn't want to get involved with whatever was going on here, Polaris knew him better. He was the type with a tough exterior, but a fire underneath. If things truly went south, there was no way he'd stand by and do nothing.

That's why she'd come prepared—with a weapon she could manipulate with her magnetic powers. Cloaked by the darkness, the thin iron sheet hovered discreetly behind her, unnoticed by anyone.

Emma led them through the dim paths until they reached the front of the bungalow—but unexpectedly, she didn't go for the door. Instead, she walked around the side, tracing the wall until they reached the back of the building.

In the shadows, Emma stopped.

She turned slowly, her expression now deadly serious.

"Walk that way for ten minutes and you'll be out of the village. There are a lot of long-haul truckers who drive through this region at night. Just follow the road—you'll find one."

"What… are you saying?" Polaris blinked, momentarily stunned.

Blink too froze in place, confused by the sudden shift. But Emma just frowned, irritated.

"Didn't you hear me? If you want to stay alive, leave this place—now."
