Chapter 3
Regina Brown hurried home, her mind in turmoil.
The moment she stepped inside, she felt something was off.
Her father was sitting on a chair, his chest heaving, his face full of anger.
Her mother stood off to the side, almost too afraid to make a sound.
As soon as Regina's mother saw her return, she quickly walked over, pulled her aside, and lowered her voice to ask softly, "Where's the contract?"
"What contract?"
"You silly girl, don't act clueless with me now. The land contract your father purchased. Where did you take it?"
Only then did Regina Brown remember the contract.
She averted her gaze, her eyes flickering, "Oh, that one."
"Didn't I tell you to bring it back?"
Her mother grew more anxious. "Did you bring it back or not?"
