Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Nara's Night and a Troubling Discovery

That night, as usual, Nara lay on her bed, playing her favorite game. But suddenly, a message came in. Nara immediately sat up on her bed, turned off her game, and opened the email sent to her secret personal account.

"Hmm... transfer the money first," Nara muttered to herself, typing her message and sending it.

"Ding!" Immediately, a message arrived, stating that a sum of money had been transferred to her account. Nara smiled. She instantly stood up and put on her long pants, then took the two mandau knives from the wall, put them on her waist, and hung her blowgun on her back. She opened her window and jumped out. As she landed on the barbed wire fence, she gripped the top of the fence with her hands, supporting her body, then somersaulted off the fence. Nara walked, whistling softly.

At a house, a husband and wife were having a violent argument. "Crash!" a breaking sound echoed, then the atmosphere became silent. Nara, who had arrived, immediately jumped to the second floor and opened the balcony door. She slowly entered and looked down at the first floor where the argument had taken place. She saw a middle-aged woman sitting on the floor under a table with a bleeding forehead and several broken plate pieces around her. She turned and saw a middle-aged man sitting on the sofa, watching television and gulping down alcohol. On his table, she saw a packet of white powder lying casually. Then, she turned again towards a room and saw a young girl, probably around her age, terrified with a smartphone in her hand.

"Oh, so that guy is watching TV to keep his wife and kid from reporting to the police... that's bad. He's drunk, I thought it was just a normal argument."

Nara used her ability to shift dimensions and calmly descended the stairs. Then, she pulled out one of her anesthetic darts and jabbed it precisely into the top of the man's head. After that, she approached the mother and examined her wound.

"Just a scratch, it's nothing," she thought to herself.

Afterward, she walked closer to the girl peeking from her room. She looked at the girl's smartphone, and the email to her was still open. She immediately deleted it and called the police. Then, calmly, she walked back to the second floor and exited through the balcony door. After that, she exited her spiritual dimension and jumped back down to the street. She took out her smartphone and sent a casual message to the girl, which read, "Job done." After that, she blocked the girl's number.

"Huuuaaah," Nara yawned and walked, stretching her body with her arms raised. Then she held the two mandau knives at her waist.

"Good thing I didn't need these weapons. Nice, I can buy vouchers tomorrow, hehe," Nara thought to herself.

While walking casually and even stopping to buy a drink at a minimarket, she heard the sound of police sirens in the distance. Behind her mask, she smiled and exited the minimarket after paying for her purchases.

The next morning, Nara ran to school because she was late. She immediately entered the school building and went into her classroom. All her classmates were already seated neatly, waiting for the teacher to arrive, as the bell had already rung. Nara quickly took her seat. Her deskmate turned and greeted her.

"Good thing you made it, you almost ran late."

Nara took out her smartphone and typed a reply to her deskmate's greeting, then showed him the screen of her smartphone.

"Yeah, I'm out of breath. Luckily, the teacher hasn't come in yet," Nara replied via her message.

"Put your smartphone away, or it'll get confiscated again," her deskmate replied.

"Alright, thanks, Chan," Nara replied using her text.

Nara put her smartphone in her pocket and fanned her hand at her neck, pulling her shirt collar slightly. Chandra, sitting next to her, swallowed his saliva, seeing Nara's "condition" beside him, sweaty and with her shirt slightly open, adding to her sexiness.

"Hey, cover that up, it's showing," Chandra admonished, turning his face away.

Nara looked down then immediately turned back. She immediately wrote in her notebook and showed it to Chandra.

"Thanks. Want to see it clearly? Just kidding, hehe," Nara teased.

"You're impossible. No thanks," Chandra replied with a red face.

The teacher then entered the classroom. Both continued their conversation by exchanging messages in their respective notebooks. Among all her classmates, Chandra was the only one who seemed normal when talking to Nara, because Nara always used a notebook or smartphone to communicate. Besides not having a philtrum, her voice also sounded funny, especially behind a mask, making her self-conscious. She was afraid that if she spoke, her only friend in class would distance himself from her.

Seeing Chandra's kindness and acceptance of her made Nara develop a slight crush on him. But the problem was, she couldn't tell Chandra who she truly was, and she also knew that Chandra already had a girlfriend in Jakarta. Finally, Nara had to let her love remain unrequited. Suddenly, a notebook was presented to Nara. She immediately read its content; it was a message from Chandra.

"I have to go back to Jakarta and might move schools there," Chandra said.

"Why?" Nara asked.

"My grandfather there is sick, so my mom asked my dad to just live in Jakarta and take care of grandfather. Besides, my dad also got a job offer there, even though he ignored it before," Chandra replied.

"Oh, I see. When are you leaving?" Nara asked.

"Probably next week," Chandra replied.

"Oh, okay. Let me know when you're leaving," Nara said.

"Definitely. I'll say goodbye to the class too, anyway," Chandra replied.

Both returned their attention to the whiteboard to note down what the teacher was writing. After school, Nara walked, lost in thought.

"Everyone's going to Jakarta, huh..." she thought to herself.

Her foot kicked a pebble as she continued to walk slowly and casually, deep in thought. Finally, Nara arrived at her boarding house, but she was surprised to see a police car parked in front of her boarding house gate. She immediately ran inside her boarding house and saw two police officers talking to the landlady. Nara approached. The landlady saw Nara and immediately came closer to her.

"Nara, you should check your room. Is anything missing? A thief just came in here and took a lot of things," the landlady said.

Nara nodded and immediately ran to stand in front of her room. "Click," her room was unlocked, even though she remembered locking it. She went inside. Her eyes immediately saw the two mandau knives and the blowgun still attached to the wall. She immediately walked to her study desk and opened her drawers; all her belongings were still inside. Then she walked to the wardrobe and opened its door, then she immediately looked at the drawer and took out her jewelry box. She opened it, and everything was still intact, but one item was missing.

"Where's Mom's locket?" she asked herself.

She immediately searched around the wardrobe, its drawers, and her entire room. She couldn't find the locket at all. Finally, she went out and ran downstairs to meet the landlady, who was still with the two police officers. She typed a message for the landlady, who immediately read it.

"Oh, you got hit too? Was that locket very valuable?" the landlady asked.

"Yes, very valuable. It's from my mom. (I couldn't possibly say it contains a photo of my mom who came from the city of Saranjana.)" Nara replied using the message.

"She's also a victim, sir," the landlady told the police.

"We will try to catch the thief as soon as possible," the police officer said.

Nara typed something to the police, asking to be informed as soon as possible because the missing item was very important to her. The police officers' answer was the same as before, making Nara clench her fists in anger.
