Chapter 10 - CHAPTER 10 — THE BLOOD MOON RISES

🌙 The Night of Red Light

Days passed in tense preparation. Scouts returned with grim tidings: villages razed in the east, strange symbols burned into the earth, cattle drained of blood.

Kael stood upon the fortress walls as night fell. A crimson moon rose over the dark hills — a bad omen whispered of in ancient legends.

> [System Notice: Blood Moon event triggered — enemy spawn rates +100%, dark creatures empowered]

The howls came first — eerie, mournful, rising from the woods. Then shapes emerged: twisted beasts with eyes that glowed like coals, and cloaked figures wielding jagged weapons.

> "Archers, loose! Mages, prepare wards!" Kael shouted.

The first wave crashed against the fortress walls. Arrows rained down. Magic flared. Still they came, relentless.

> [Combat engaged: Blood Moon Horde]

[Kill count: 12 | +500 EXP]

[New achievement unlocked: First Blood under the Blood Moon]

---

⚡ The Breakthrough

A massive beast, twice the size of a man and armored in bone, smashed through the outer gate.

Kael met it head-on, blade flashing. Sparks flew as steel met bone. The beast roared, clawing at him, but Kael rolled beneath its strike and drove his sword deep into its throat.

> [Blood Moon Brute slain — +2,000 EXP | Loot: Bone Core, Moonfang Claw]

Selene appeared at his side, daggers gleaming with silver light.

> "We hold the courtyard. The inner gate must not fall!"

Kael nodded. Together they fought, side by side, cutting down creature after creature.

---

🌌 System Surge

As Kael's blade felled the last of the first wave, a strange energy surged through him.

> [System Notice: Blood Moon energy absorbed — latent power awakening…]

[New skill unlocked: Lunar Wrath (Passive) — +15% attack speed under moonlight]

[Level up: 15 → 16]

He felt stronger, faster — his vision sharper in the night. But with that power came a voice, whispering at the edge of his mind.

> "Take the dagger. Complete the bond."

Kael clenched his fists.

> "No. Not like this."

But deep down, he knew the Shadow Court would return — and the choice would not be so easy next time.

⚔️ The Second Wave

The fortress echoed with the clash of steel, the hiss of arrows, and the roar of beasts. As the bodies of the first wave smoldered in the moonlight, a deeper darkness stirred at the tree line.

> "They're regrouping…" Selene whispered, eyes narrowing.

Kael's instincts screamed — the true assault was about to begin.

The second wave charged from the forest. These creatures were smarter: they moved in packs, flanking the defenses, using the fallen as cover. Among them, dark-cloaked figures chanted in an ancient tongue.

> [System Notice: Blood Moon Cultists detected — magic shield weakening]

Kael vaulted down to the inner yard, meeting his captains.

> "Form two lines! Archers on the walls, mages in the rear! Kill the cultists first — their spells are draining our wards!"

---

🌩️ A Deadly Duel

Kael spotted the leader: a tall figure draped in crimson robes, face hidden behind a mask of bone. The cultist raised a staff, summoning a massive shadow wolf that leapt for the inner gate.

Kael charged, intercepting it mid-air. His blade cleaved through the beast's throat, black ichor splattering his armor.

> [Shadow Wolf slain — +1,200 EXP | Loot: Lunar Essence Shard]

Before Kael could catch his breath, the cultist advanced, staff crackling with dark energy.

Their duel was brutal — magic and steel clashing, shockwaves rippling across the yard. The cultist's staff glowed with corrupted moonlight, each strike threatening to tear Kael apart.

> [System Notice: Enemy elite encountered — Blood Moon Warlock (Level 20)]

---

🌕 Turning the Tide

Kael's movements grew faster, Lunar Wrath enhancing his strikes. He found an opening and drove his blade through the warlock's heart.

The cultist gasped, blood spilling from beneath the mask.

> "You… could have ruled the night…"

With a final shudder, the warlock collapsed.

> [Blood Moon Warlock slain — +5,000 EXP | Rare Loot: Warlock's Bone Mask, Blood Moon Sigil]

At the warlock's fall, the cultists faltered. Kael's soldiers surged forward, cutting them down.

---

⚡ The Aftermath

Dawn broke over a field of ruin. The fortress stood — battered, but unbroken.

Kael gazed at the Blood Moon Sigil in his hand. It pulsed faintly, as if alive.

> [System Notice: Blood Moon Sigil — unlocks hidden Blood Moon questline. Accept?]

Kael hesitated only a moment.

> "Yes."

> [New questline accepted: Secrets of the Blood Moon — uncover the source of the corruption and end it before the next rise]

The shadow war was far from over. But Kael had survived the first night. And now, he would take the fight to the enemy.

🕯️ The Secrets Beneath

With the dawn came an eerie calm. The soldiers tended to the wounded and burned the corpses of the fallen creatures to stop the spread of corruption. The stench of smoke and blood hung heavy in the air.

Kael stood alone atop the fortress wall, gazing at the Blood Moon Sigil in his hand. It seemed to hum faintly, drawing his gaze deeper into its carved surface.

> [System Notice: Blood Moon Sigil resonating — hidden location marked on map]

A faint golden icon appeared on his system map: deep in the mountain range to the north, where no man dared venture.

Selene approached quietly.

> "You're not thinking of going after that, are you?"

Kael's jaw tightened.

> "I don't have a choice. The next Blood Moon will rise, and they'll come stronger. We need to end this at the source."

She studied him, eyes softening.

> "Then I'm coming with you."

Kael shook his head.

> "Someone has to guard the fortress. If I fail…"

> "If you fail, this world burns. We do this together."

---

🌲 The Journey Begins

By midday, Kael rode from the fortress, Selene and a small band of elite warriors at his side. The land beyond the walls was scarred — blackened earth, shattered trees, pools of foul blood.

> [New quest objective: Reach the Hidden Sanctuary of the Blood Moon]

The system chimed softly as they crossed into corrupted lands.

> [Corruption zone entered — stamina drain +10%, visibility reduced]

The journey was perilous. Ambushes by rogue beasts, traps set by the fleeing cultists, and strange visions that lured the weak-minded into the shadows.

Yet Kael pressed on, his resolve hardened by the memory of the siege.

---

⛰️ The Hidden Sanctuary

Three days later, they reached a narrow canyon shrouded in perpetual mist. Strange glyphs glowed faintly on the canyon walls, and the very air seemed to hum with dark magic.

> "This is it," Kael said.

The ground trembled as a massive stone door slowly opened, revealing a cavern of black crystal and bone. Inside, a single figure waited — a woman clad in tattered robes of silver and red, her eyes glowing with unnatural light.

> [System Notice: Blood Moon Oracle encountered — danger level: Extreme]

The Oracle's voice echoed through the cavern.

> "You bring the Sigil… Do you seek to end the curse, or claim its power?"

Kael drew his blade, stepping forward.

> "I seek to end it."

The Oracle smiled, sorrowful and dark.

> "Then you must face the truth behind the Blood Moon… and yourself."

---

🌑 The Choice

The cavern shifted around Kael. Visions filled the space — of ancient kings who once bound the Blood Moon's power, of warriors who fell to its temptation.

The Oracle held out two items: a dark blade that pulsed with power, and a pure silver amulet glowing with soft light.

> "The blade grants dominion over the Blood Moon — power beyond imagining. The amulet seals the curse, but at great cost."

Kael's system flared:

> [Decision point: Claim the Blade (dark path) / Take the Amulet (light path)]

Kael's grip on his sword tightened. His heart pounded.

> "I… choose—"
