Since they were basically facing each other, Que could perfectly see the rage burning in his eyes. He looked more like a wounded cat with a rage of a tiger, which was basically dangerous as having nothing to lose made him even more unpredictable.
She was just nine and yet she has already witnessed how vicious, cruel and hurting this world could be, but Fad Zai seemed to have been burned even more deeper, leaving a burning rage that could only be extinguished by vengeance.
She even regretted asking the question, as she felt like she had just reminded Fad Zai that there was that hurting wound in his soul that he was trying to avoid, or forget that it existed.
"You must have love her so much." Que found the words escaping from her mouth, subconsciously, with sadness clouding her face and tears dangling in her beautiful blue eyes.
"But don't worry." She quickly added while using both of her hands to grab Fad's right hand. "I'm here for you, and as your wife, it's my responsibility to take care of you, protect you, now, and forever." She spoke while standing and started walking away.
"You..." Fad Zai wanted to say something to her, but no word could certainly come out of his dry lips.
'A wife? Does she even know what that means?' He thought.
"I'll make us dinner now." Que spoke while heading to the end corner of the room, where there seemed to be a small fireplace.
That's when it struck Fad Zai, ever since he wake up, Que had mentioned about her mother, but he couldn't help but noticed a hind of sadness and loneliness over her aura when she spoke.
And now that she was the one cooking, at such a young age, he couldn't help but noticed that something wasn't right.
"Hey, little miss." He called out.
"Stop calling me that!" Que yelled at him. "I've already told you. Since I am your wife, you can just call me Que, or if it pleases you, you can just call me little Que." She spoke, almost frightening Fad who quickly backed away at the far end of the bed.
"Ok, ok." He quickly responded as he tried to avoid some little drama. "By the way, when is your mother coming back? The moon is already out and she isn't here yet." He calmly asked.
"She isn't around." Que responded while trying to lit some fire." She received a job offer two moons ago in the neighbor village, she was supposed to return that evening but she hasn't yet." She explained.
No matter how had he tried to hide it. Fad Zai could still detect the sadness in her voice, and it only grew stronger as she continue to speak, making Fad Zai feeling pity for her.
He noticed that Que was just some little brave girl who was trying to hide her pain with a smile, but pain is just pain no matter how hard she tried.
"But she is gonna return soon, right?" Que muttered while turning around and face Fad Zai, this time overwhelmed by emotions as the words escaped her mouth inform of sobes, with tears trickling down her dirty cheeks.
"Hey, it's ok." Fad quickly responded while jumping off the bed and hugged her as he tried to comfort her. "I'm sure she will be back sooner than you expect." He muttered.
But this words certainly didn't seemed to work on. More tears continue to pour out her eyeslinds as broke down, unable to hide how she was feeling anymore.
Fad Zai didn't let go, he just continued to hold her, and this certainly made him remember how he was being treated by Fai, his older sister at his earlier age.
But just thinking of this brought more pain to him, and just like any other man, he pushed the thought of it at the back of his mind while forgetting they never existed.
It was just a temporary solution, but it worked for now.
"Look at me." Que muttered while breaking away from Fad's hug and wiped her tears, thirty minutes later of crying. "I should be the one who should be stronger for you, and yet here you are, the one soothing me." She spoke.
"It's the least I could do." Fad responded awkwardly while scratching the back of his head.
"I'll make us dinner." Que spoke while proceeding to make some fire.
"So what are we cooking?" Fad asked.
"Some rice soup. My friend, Mei, lent me some. She has been really sweet ever since mommy went away."
It was so sad and all after hearing Que speaking. He just couldn't imagine that she had been surviving on her own for this whole long, and at the same time taking care of him.
He found himself creating a soft spot for her in his heart, not like like a finance though, but like a little sister, as coming across such a soul is ultimately rare.
The food was prepared, and to be sincere, Que was a real deal when it comes to cooking. She was the best, more like a natural talent, and when Fad eat, he felt like he wanted to ask for more, but unfortunately there was nothing left.
Anyways, the two continue chatting for a little while, and through their conversation, Fad learned that Que had never met her father.
Her mother refused to let her know who her father really was, and everytime she asked, she would just be told that she will know him when the time is right.
With nothing much to do, the two decided to sleep off, sharing the same bed.
Que refused to let Fad go, claiming that wife and husband should always share a bed, which kind of made Fad to wonder if she really understood the magnitude of what she was saying.
To finalize the last nail on the coffin, Que stated that the two have been sharing a bed ever since from the beginning, which kind of send Fad Zai speechless.
But it's not like he was able to close his eyes and sleep, forcing him to keep on turning around and around in the bed.
Everywhere he turned, he felt like the spirits of his mother, sister, friends, and every single soul that suffered the tragedy at the top of the snow mountain eight years ago were staring at him.
If was more like they were cursing him for not be able to avenge their death for this whole long, not caring the situation he previously was at.
It was like they were taunting him, giving him no peace of mind, and it only grew even more worse when he tried to tighten his eyeslinds.
It made Fad feel like the only way out of this was through a shade of blood. Which was kind of slowly programing in his mind, making him to feel like this was his only path to peace of mind.
Unable to sleep, Fad wake up while heading to fetch some water to wash his face, but the moment he rose his upper body, a scarlet mist suddenly rushed into the room and clouded every corner of it, and the moment Fad inhealed it, he was mysteriously knocked out.
