Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: Blood for Blood

A sickle-shaped pale blue moon hung high in the pitch-black night sky. The pale blue moonlight was spilled on the ground by the moon, and everything on the ground was bathed in a blue halo.

The tavern on the street was as lively as ever. Li Karl sat in the center of the small tavern and generously ordered a bottle of high-class wine that cost a silver coin, sipping it slowly. He had been craving this wine for a long time but had never had the money to buy it.

As he drank the expensive wine, he was so happy that he wanted to sing.

Early this morning, he had reported two damned wild witches, a young couple who had just moved to Lion City not long ago. Although they had given a lot of help to the destitute Li Karl, who asked them to be damned wild witches?

The North Wind Knights were truly the elite of the North Wind God Church. He reported them in the morning, and by noon, the two damned wild witches were tied to the center of the square and burned. Looking at the terrified and hateful faces of the couple and feeling the heavy money bag in his hand, Li Karl felt extremely comfortable!

Reporting two wild witches had earned Li Karl twenty gold coins as a reward. For Li Karl, who was as poor as a church mouse, this was a huge sum of money. You know, a copper coin could buy a large loaf of black bread, and a loaf of black bread was enough for him to eat for a day. And twenty gold coins could be exchanged for a full two thousand copper coins!

With money in his pocket, Li Karl wanted to treat himself. Li Karl was idle all day and had no source of income. Reporting wild witches once could allow him to live worry-free for a year or two.

It was a pity that there were not many wild witches and heretics, so Li Karl was not very wealthy.

As for work? There was no way he would work.

Li Karl was陶醉ly drinking his wine when suddenly a strange impulse came from his stomach, making him let out a belch. Along with the loud belch was a small wisp of flame!

The gazes of everyone in the tavern all eerily converged on Li Karl.

He had just breathed fire, right?

One who could breathe fire...

A wild witch!

Li Karl suddenly stood up and roared at the surrounding drinkers:

"No, I didn't. I'm not!"

As he spoke, he let out another belch, and another small wisp of flame spurted out.

Just as Li Karl was about to defend himself to everyone, a bald man sitting next to him punched him right on the nose, cutting off his words. Then everyone in the tavern swarmed over, punching and kicking him until Li Karl passed out.

When Li Karl woke up again, he found himself in the center of the square, tied to a stake!

The black-clothed deacon who had kindly given him gold coins yesterday was now staring at him with cold and disgusted eyes. His pale palm was pressed against Li Karl's chest, and then a pale cyan flame emerged from his hand.

Then the flame spread over his body!

It hurt so much!

The intense pain drove Li Karl crazy. He sat up straight and gasped violently. All he saw was darkness. He was still in his own home.

Phew, it seemed to be just a dream. Li Karl let out a deep sigh of relief in his heart.

So who were these two people sitting beside his bed in his own home?

Thieves had broken into his house.

What did I have worth stealing?

Oh no, my twenty gold coins...

Just as Li Karl was about to shout, he saw the guy in black clothes put his hand on his head.

The moment their hands touched, a wave of dizziness hit him. Li Karl's consciousness gradually blurred, and finally he fell into a deep sleep...

"Why did he wake up... Didn't you say he had fallen into your illusion, Enoch?" The one speaking was a young man with black hair and pale blue eyes.

He was holding a thick notebook in his hand and wearing a pair of round-framed glasses on his nose. If his clothes weren't so shabby, he would look like a shy scholar at first glance.

He was Horn Memhailin.

"Maybe he encountered something terrifying in the illusion. I only gave him a little guidance," said a young man with short brown hair and a long black coat, scratching his head.

He was Enoch Harley, a wild witch proficient in illusions.

As he spoke, he kicked Li Karl, who was sleeping soundly on the bed, off the bed and sat on it himself.

Li Karl, who had been kicked off the bed, still indulged in a beautiful dream. Obviously, he was sleeping very soundly.

"Then let's continue the experiment. I hope he didn't see anything," Horn pushed his glasses and said.

"What could he see in the dark? Anyway, he doesn't have many days to live. Don't worry," Enoch spat on Li Karl's body and said.

The two of them fussed with several bottles and jars and some strange powders on Li Karl's table for a long time. Finally, they made a small lump of suspicious crimson paste in Li Karl's rice bowl.

Enoch pinched Li Karl's chin in his sleep and poured this suspicious object into Li Karl's mouth.

"Okay, it's done. If nothing goes wrong, this guy will definitely become a temporary wild witch tomorrow," Horn wiped the sweat off his forehead and said.

"The kind that can breathe fire," Enoch added beside him.

This was developed by Horn himself according to a formula he had obtained from his teacher before. Its function was to improve the affinity of fire - attribute wild witches to fire elements, but the side effects were very serious. It would cause slight burns to one's internal organs. Even for Horn, a wild witch, it was a very uncomfortable thing.

When it came to ordinary people, it would probably result in continuous small flames spurting out for three or four days. Well, it was just small flames.

For a wild witch, it was a slight burn within three or four days. For an ordinary person, after three or four days, it was probably that their stomach and throat would be cooked...

So for Li Karl, whether he was burned as a wild witch because of spitting small flames or died from the potion after three or four days, he was going to die anyway.

Of course, if he had a choice, Horn still hoped that he would be killed by the church. It could be considered a worthy death.

The young couple who had been killed because of his tip - off were originally the targets that Horn had decided to develop as wild witch companions. But just as he had extended an olive branch to the couple, they were burned to death!

In Horn's eyes, being tied to a stake and burned to death was the most tragic way to die!

So for Horn, this guy had to die!

It was just blood for blood.

"By the way, how's the progress of that stick experiment you're doing?" Enoch changed the topic.

"It's called a magic staff!" Horn helplessly corrected Enoch. He pointed to two blackened pieces of wood beside the bed and said,

"Can't you feel the progress yourself? Usually, you need three magic staves to maintain an illusion for such a long time, but now you only need two! The medium effect of walnut wood is about one and a half times that of oak. This is the best casting medium I can find in the short term."

An admiring look flashed in Enoch's eyes as he looked at Horn: "You're so amazing!"

"However, one walnut - wood magic staff is still not enough to support me in casting two complete third - ring spells. So at this stage, for me, a walnut - wood magic staff and an oak magic staff are no different," Horn waved his hand and said.

"Then you're still really amazing," Enoch's eyes were almost full of stars.

Horn felt a chill down his spine under Enoch's gaze and was almost covered in goosebumps. He quickly found a topic to interrupt Enoch's gaze.

"How's the progress of your condensation of the Magic Sea?"

"Well..." As expected, Enoch's admiring gaze was interrupted by Horn's question. His attitude towards Horn switched to that of a primary school student facing a teacher without having done their homework.

"Um, it's almost done. Condensing the Magic Sea? It's not difficult. It's not difficult at all," Enoch said with a forced smile.
