Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Evelyn's POV

I was just coming from my room. The truth was that I had slept off after the quick make out session with the alpha, but the truth remained, I wanted to see him again.

Waking up to not seeing him scared me to hell. I wondered what my fate was going to be, but I decided to calm myself down. It wasn't as easy as I expected.

As I walked past someone, I suddenly heard him murmur. "How can the alpha marry someone he just met?" He expressed, pushing me aside as he walked past.

I didn't know what brought that discussion, but for some reason, I knew the person the alpha talked about was me. My heart skipped a beat, and I swallowed.

I immediately went into thoughts. However, I was snapped out of thought when I felt strong hands gently grab my shoulder.

I turned back immediately, but calmed when I saw him. However, he noticed something seemed to be wrong.

"What's wrong? I have been calling you, but you didn't seem to want to respond to me. What's the matter?"

No words were said. In fact, I didn't know what else to say. It all seemed like a dream to me.

"Evelyn?" He called lifting my chin so I could look at him.

"Yes?" I answered, and was stunned that he smiled. He flashed me an assuring smile. One to tell me that everything was alright.

"I don't know what else to say to you, but I overheard something I wanted to confirm from you."

"Are you planning on marrying me?" I asked, and there were no other words to say.

"Marry you?" He asked, and when I nodded, he smiled. "Yes, I'm planning to marry you. Listen. I know it's too soon, but I have been waiting for you for a very long time, and I–"

"We can't get married." I shook my head because that came out wrong, and the expression on his face showed that he was hurt by my words.

"No, you got it all wrong. I want to marry you, but you'll have to tell my father about it. Until then, I can't make a decision, I'm sorry."

He nodded, and his face immediately came alive. "It doesn't really matter. I'm going to do whatever it takes, you don't need to worry about anything," he assured, rubbing my cheek gently, after which he took me back to the room.

He spent some time with me, and left to do some duties, leaving me all alone. I didn't say a thing. I wasn't even worried. I just needed to understand what was happening. My life took a drastic turn. Turns out I was grateful for it. It was better than being with that old man that looked so evil.

"Thank you moon goddess," I expressed, yawning due to exhaustion. I wanted to get some more rest. I laid my head on the bed, and closed my eyes. However, my eyes snapped open when I felt a huge hand over my mouth.

"Mmm!" I screamed because I noticed I was being pulled away from the bed. I twisted my neck and was able to get a view of who was there. It was an unknown person, and the mask got me extremely scared. It reminded me of those men who tried to sell me.

"Mmm!" I screamed because his hands were wrapped tightly against my mouth. I struggled, but he was stronger. However, I had other ideas. I wasn't going to let myself be taken again.

I used my elbow to hit his stomach so hard that he groaned. Although my stomach started to hurt, I picked up some of the objects on the counter, and began to throw them on him.

I wasn't ready to let him come near me. Sweat covered my face, and my hands, and my breathing changed, but I didn't care.

"Stay the fuck away from me!" I threw him a broach I found there, and rushed out of the room, but he followed behind me. However, I bumped into something hard. I lifted my eyes and noticed who it was. It was Damien, and his expression was filled with worry.

"What happened?" he asked, and I couldn't talk. I just pointed towards the place.

However, he waited. But upon hearing someone coming close, his eyes widened. He left me alone, and rushed towards the room. I followed as well. I wanted to end up seeing how he was going to be caught.

By the time he got to my room, the intruder tried to open the window to escape, but there was no path. He was stuck, and he had to deal with it.

Upon realising that, he fisted his hand, and prepared himself in a fight stance then charged towards him.

He seemed ready to do whatever it took to get him out of the way no matter what.

My heart drummed, and I tried to be brave, but I wasn't working out.

I was tense. However, before I could blink, Damien had brought him down, and a guard charged in to take the masked man away.

Damien immediately hugged me, assuring me everything was going to be fine.

The next day, I was seated on Damien's lap while he tried to make judgement on those who had been caught in the act of trafficking. Everyone was there to witness it, and he had called me to be by his side, making everyone know that he had chosen me as his Luna.

However, my eyes widened when I noticed my father among those in chains.

"Dad?" I called, but Damien remained calm, "How?!" I said, and turned back to Damien who sighed. He was extremely disappointed, and I was heartbroken, how could my dad be a part of this evil thing?

"I'll give you the liberty to decide what you want. Do you want to free them? Or you want to proceed with the persecution." He paused, and then rubbed my hair gently.

"Temper justice with mercy… Please, Evelyn, you can't let your father die!" my father pleaded with tears in his eyes. However, I recalled the trauma those girls had also gone through. I was also part of them. I was frozen in time, wondering what I should do, that was the only family I had but…

"My little fire. Do you want to temper justice with mercy? Or… go on with the execution." it seemed the ball was in my court. He gave me the choice to make to show everyone I was important and that I was capable. My silence was painful to myself and to my father. I wanted him alive but for the last time, the screams of the girls echoed through my head, they had been through so much, and it would be a crime against humanity that it should repeat itself.

I had chosen.

"Execution."
