Chapter 13 - The Ice Trial : The Final Trial (2)

As if answering Kayn's challenge, the reflection also put all four of its palms forward, ready to cast four sets of ice spear spells.

"Bah! A copycat would never be able to defeat the original!"

When the ice spear runes began appearing in front of the reflection's palms, Kayn began his own spellcasting.

He planned to match the reflection's ice spears with his own before, but he got a better idea when he saw the ice spears cancelling each other out earlier.

Instead of forming the runes for the ice spear, Kayn visualized a different spell in his mind, one that was inspired by his beautiful, peaceful homeworld of Earth.

"Ice Bullets."

The ice bullets were much smaller than the spears, enabling Kayn to materialize many more bullets compared to the number of ice spears.

As the two spells manifested against each other, Kayn smiled widely as he saw the difference in number between the ice spears and the ice bullets.

For each ice spear in the reflection's side, 7 ice bullets were forming on Kayn's side.

When the two projectiles collided, the ice spear was able to destroy 2 to 3 ice bullets before their structure collapsed, and they crumbled on the spot.

However, that means that at least 4 remaining bullets were still flying straight towards Kayn's target, which was the now defenseless ice reflection.

The ice bullets hit their marks as coldness began to invade the reflection's body.

The reflection was an ice demon has an ice affinity itself, but it wasn't completely immune to ice. It would just take more ice to overpower the ice mana inside the reflection's body.

And Kayn exactly did just that.

After the first round of spells was finished, Kayn began casting even more ice bullets and shot them towards the reflection.

But instead of doing it like before, Kayn timed his casting so that the four spells would begin and manifest right after the previous spell was finished, making it a continuous assault of bullets instead of one big attack.

As if realizing that the ice spear wouldn't do much against the bullets, the reflection changed strategy and cast an ice shield instead.

Its hand constantly refreshed the shield as the bullets continued raining on it nonstop.

But the reflection didn't give up on fighting yet, using its two free palms, it cast frozen wind, the spell that the ice demon used against Kayn's own strategy to mask his vision with snow mist.

Without the abundance of snowy mist around, the spell wasn't as strong as when the ice demon used it, but Kayn didn't plan to just tank the attack head-on.

Kayn thought of putting up his own ice barrier, but recalling his recent experience with a snowstorm, he had a better idea.

As he prepared to draw his runes, Kayn began imagining the times when he absorbed the ice mana affinity from the snowstorm and made it his own mana.

He couldn't just absorb another demon's mana into his own, as it contained the demon's personal signature, unlike the pure ice mana the snowstorm gave him, but he knew a way where he technically could.

"Ice Absorption Barrier." Kayn cast another new spell with one of his hands, continuing the barrage of bullets with the other three.

The moment the ice absorption barrier manifested around Kayn, it began absorbing the frozen wind that the reflection sent him.

The barrier added the ice elements from the frozen wind into itself, making the layer of barrier thicker and stronger, which also made the absorption faster and faster the more ice mana it had gathered.

With confidence, Kayn started walking towards the reflection, absorbing even more frozen wind than before.

The frozen wind was soon rendered useless as it supplied Kayn's barrier with more strength instead of harming Kayn.

The reflection saw what happened and stopped casting the frozen wind spell, instead, it turned back to using the ice spears.

But Kayn didn't do anything to stop the reflection from casting its spell.

The ice spears were soon destroyed by ice bullets before they could even manifest properly, making them even more useless than the frozen wind spell.

The reflection changed its strategy once more as it cast, "Ice Prison."

The ground around Kayn trembled, and then the ice prison dome once again trapped Kayn inside.

But different from before, Kayn remained calm.

The second the ice dome trapped him and touched his barrier, the layer of ice began thinning as more and more ice elements were absorbed by the barrier.

Within just a few seconds, the dome of ice was brittle enough for Kayn to destroy it by flicking his claws.

The ice dome crumbled with ease, and Kayn walked out of it unscathed, even stronger in fact, with more ice elements absorbed into his barrier.

Just like the ice demon, the reflection also had the same strategy, using the ice dome to constrict Kayn's movement and buy time for itself to cast a single giant spear of ice from above, attempting to skewer Kayn's whole body.

But the Kayn now was different from before.

"Come on! At least come up with an original special move!"

With how fast he broke the ice prison, the huge spear above wasn't even done manifesting as it had just finished materializing when Kayn walked out of the ice dome.

Not even bothering to cast a spell, Kayn just dashed forward, flapping his wings once to boost himself even faster.

Using his pure speed and agility, the huge ice spear did nothing but stab itself into the empty ground, and Kayn was now right in front of his reflection.

Kayn smiled at the helpless reflection and spoke, "GG, nice try, skill diff."

Along with the words leaving his mouth, Kayn's two hands didn't stop moving as they cast one final spell,

"Frost Barrier: Burst"

The spell manifested into the world, and Kayn's ice absorption barrier violently shook before exploding outward, releasing all the ice affinity mana contained within it.

Taking such a huge amount of mana from point-blank range, even the ice reflection wasn't spared as the massive amount of ice affinity mana turned the grey-skinned reflection's whole body rigid, unmoving, frozen from head to toe.

Kayn then swung his claw towards the brittle statue, crumbling it into many pieces.

He then looked down at the frozen remains of the reflection and spoke,

"May the annoying and unoriginal be damned in eternal ice shards."
