"Ice control: Ice Spear Vengeance."
The second the spell manifested and disappeared, Kayn felt an abundance of mana gathered all around him and his surroundings.
The amount of mana he felt was simply double or even triple the amount of mana that he felt back then when the ice demon summoned the huge ice spear.
Kayn thought that whatever was about to happen wouldn't be good news, so he quickly tried to end the fight by casting another ice spike prison to skewer the ice demon.
But he was too late.
Before Kayn could even manifest the runes to cast the spells, the rigid ice spears under him began coming to life as they shot upward, threatening to skewer Kayn from below.
It forced Kayn to turn his body and close his wings, cancelling the spell being cast.
But the ice spears below him weren't the only thing that threatened him.
All the rigid ice spears that were left either on the ground or stabbed into the ice wall, they all moved from their spot, all of them began flying directly towards Kayn.
Seeing how dangerous the situation had become, Kayn didn't have a choice as he decided that he couldn't finish the fight right that second despite the ice demon being injured.
Kayn began flapping his wings to try and get a distance away from the ice demon.
But the spears flew towards him at a speed that his wings couldn't outrun. They're just as fast as his ice bullets.
Not only were they fast, but their trajectory wasn't a straight line either. As if gaining life, they were able to bend and turn, following the will of the ice demon.
And Kayn learned that the hard way as a spear suddenly turned sideways and grazed his ribs just when Kayn thought he had dodged it.
From the cut of the spear, ice began spreading in Kayn's body, making it harder for him to fully control his movement.
He wasn't easily frozen like before, as he was an ice demon himself, but the foreign ice mana invading his mana certainly did their job very well as they messed with Kayn's body.
With Kayn's deteriorating control and speed, even more spears cut his body open, and the more ice mana invaded his body.
At the end, Kayn was forced to land on the ground as his wings couldn't fly fast enough anymore to dodge the flying spears of ice, not that the wings were fast enough in the first place.
Just like the ice demon, Kayn resorted to one last defense that he could think of against the rigid ice spears.
"Ice Prison."
Kayn erected a dome of thick ice around him, trying to use the wall to stop the spears from getting onto him.
And it certainly would have worked as the ice dome was several times thicker compared to an ordinary ice prison spell. Kayn invested a lot of mana into the spell, so he needed some time to recover his mana.
And that some time wasn't actually even minutes, as the demons lived and breathed mana, as they could be said to have pseudo-unlimited mana as their hearts pumped mana indefinitely into their bodies.
However, even with his mana recovering within only 30 seconds, Kayn wasn't out of danger yet.
If the rigid ice spear was the ordinary one that the ice demon used earlier, then the thick ice dome would be able to hold out against them.
But the rigid ice spears were constantly moving. Even after stabbing the ice dome and failing to break through, they would just pull themselves out of the ice dome to attack again.
'I need to do something… I… I would be defeated once more if this were to continue…'
Kayn calmed himself down, a feat that was easier now for him to do ever since becoming an ice demon himself.
While thinking of a solution, he kept recasting the ice prison spell, making sure that the ice spears wouldn't get to him just yet.
On the outside of the ice prison, the ice demon was looking at the ice dome from a distance.
It saw that Kayn was constantly refreshing his ice prison spell, making it impossible for his spears to break the ice dome even with repeated assault.
So the ice demon decided to change things up a little bit.
He was currently casting a powerful spell, and he couldn't just cast another spell along with the ice spear vengeance spell that took so much of his focus.
It wouldn't be possible for the ice demon to cast another rigid ice spear that would be big and strong enough to pierce the thickened ice dome in one swift hit.
But he had other ideas.
Instead of using the tens of ice spears to attack the ice dome one by one, the ice demon arranged three spears to be the literal spearhead, while the rest of the spears lined up perfectly behind the three spears equally.
Using the momentum each spear carried and focusing the pressure on the three spears in the front, the ice demon would be able to generate enough force to break through the ice dome.
A long line of spears lined up perfectly between each other, then was formed as the ice demon put his whole focus on maintaining the formation of the spears before sending them forward.
Just like he planned, the line of spears flew through the air and headed straight towards the ice dome where Kayn hid.
The moment the line of spears crashed against the ice dome, a resounding boom echoed throughout the surrounding area as a significant part of the ice dome broke into pieces.
But the impact was too strong for even the rigid ice spears to handle, as the original three ice spears and several more behind them also crumbled into pieces from the impact.
But the ice demon got the chance that he needed.
He just needed to poke through a little part of the ice dome with the remaining tens of spears, and he would get his prize.
Unfortunately for the ice demon's plans, it never came into fruition.
Before the remaining ice spears could continue shooting forward, the ice dome broke into pieces on its own.
When the ice dome broke, it revealed a tall demon with wings and four arms, covered in armor made out of ice.
Not only that, the 16 claws that it had were also covered in sharp ice claws.
Without wasting a single second, Kayn ran forward and met the bundle of ice spears.
Already knowing what he needed to do, Kayn slashed his claws towards the ice spears, using as much power as he possibly could without sacrificing his body's balance.
The ice claws then met the rigid ice spear, resulting in the latter being cut cleanly into several pieces as the ice claws made their way through them.
'If the problem was the ice spears that kept moving and attacking me, I just needed to make the ice spears useless. I just need to break them all apart.'
And that's exactly what Kayn planned to do now.
