Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Night Talk

After waiting for more than ten seconds, death still did not come, and she didn't even feel a trace of pain.

Nezuko trembled as she opened her eyes, discovering that the figure of the grizzly bear had long since disappeared. She suddenly turned her head; standing behind her was Jotaro's tall and burly figure.

'Grizzly bears don't just disappear for no reason, it must be Jotaro-san who saved me…'

Nezuko suddenly spread her arms, rushed forward, and tightly hugged Jotaro, burying her head in his chest.

"Jotaro-san…"

Jotaro could feel that the girl was afraid; that soft, boneless, delicate body was trembling slightly in his arms.

"Yare yare…" Jotaro wasn't very good at comforting others, so he just turned his head slightly and said blandly, "You did very well, Nezuko."

"When facing a strong enemy, you didn't lose your composure. I'm proud of you."

Hearing these warm and comforting words, and with the overwhelming sense of security Jotaro radiated, Nezuko's delicate body gradually calmed down.

She looked up, tearful eyes gazing at this determined and cold face, and suddenly broke into a smile through tears, shyly burying her head back into Jotaro's chest.

She softly whispered a voice only she could hear, "Thank you, Jotaro-san…"

Nezuko held on for a long time without letting go. Jotaro didn't urge her either; he simply closed his eyes and said helplessly, "Yare yare daze~"

———

Seeing so much prey, everyone in the Kamado family showed joyful expressions.

Kie too sincerely expressed her thanks to Jotaro. Jotaro's arrival not only didn't disturb them, but instead brought much help to their family.

After dinner, Jotaro came outside alone, raising his hand to block the cold wind, and lit a cigarette.

Under the night sky, the misty white smoke unknowingly drew him into deep thought.

The scenes of the future shown to him by the system were absurd, yet many parts made him involuntarily feel that the future might really develop that way.

To be honest, even he had been mentally disturbed recently. But no matter what, if he wanted to return to his original world, he must eliminate the demons in this world.

He stood upright, both hands in his pants pockets, his pale green eyes appearing especially deep under the night sky.

"It's time to leave here."

Having made this decision, he had to face another problem.

The world he was in now was different from his original world, so the currency from his old world couldn't be used here.

Before starting his journey to hunt demons, he first had to solve his living expenses. Right now, aside from the watch on his wrist, he had nothing valuable left.

Although Tanjiro had given him a portion of the coal-selling money recently, for him, that amount was still too little.

Naturally, Jotaro wouldn't honestly go get a job to earn money. In his mind, he had already thought of a fast way to make money.

As if sensing Jotaro's intention to leave, Nezuko's mood had become especially gloomy ever since they returned from the hunt.

Even though it was late at night and her family was already asleep, she still had no sleepiness. She sat up from the bedding, hugged her knees, looking deeply troubled. She tried asking, "Jotaro-san, are you asleep?"

In the pitch-dark and silent room, there was no reply. After a long time, Jotaro, who had his hands behind his head, finally replied with a single word, "No."

Ever since coming to this world, especially after seeing memories of the future, his sleep quality had worsened. Every time he closed his eyes, those terrifying images would appear before him.

Even if he didn't want to believe it, those scenes were just too real, especially the deaths of those comrades.

That golden spirit was definitely not something the system made up.

Hearing Jotaro's voice, Nezuko's mood suddenly lightened for some reason. She tiptoed out of her bedding, quietly came to Jotaro's sleeping mat.

Jotaro was sleeping near the window, and under the dim light shining in from outside, she could still see his sleeping posture clearly.

At the moment, aside from his head resting on his hands, his thigh was propped up over one knee.

Seeing this, Nezuko giggled softly. "Jotaro-san, your sleeping posture is really terrible."

Jotaro had long smelled the girl's faint fragrance and immediately opened his eyes. His pale green pupils still shone brightly in the dark environment.

"Do you want something?"

Nezuko looked into Jotaro's eyes for a second, then quickly looked away. A blush rose on her fair cheeks.

"No…" Nezuko's lips moved for a while, then she finally gathered the courage to say, "Jotaro-san, I can't sleep… I… I want to talk with you…"

Jotaro glanced at her, then closed his eyes again, saying blandly, "Yare yare…"

Nezuko's face lit up with joy. Since Jotaro didn't tell her to leave, that meant he accepted it. If he truly couldn't stand her, with his personality, he wouldn't act this way.

She still remembered, on the day Jotaro first came, she had kept pestering him with questions, which ended with Jotaro losing his temper and telling her to shut up.

Back then, she thought Jotaro was a hard person to get along with. But after slowly getting to know him, she found Jotaro to actually be very gentle and easy to get along with.

What she admired most was that Jotaro was very articulate and knew many things she didn't. Unknowingly, she had already been attracted to him…

She leaned beside Jotaro and gently laid down. This was the first time she had seen Jotaro's side profile this closely.

It wasn't until Jotaro lifted his blanket and placed it over her that she came back to her senses.

"Jotaro-san, aren't you cold?"

Jotaro rested his hands back under his head. His eyes had never opened from the start.

"That's what I should be asking you."

Nezuko's face flushed, and she buried her head into the blanket, leaving only two big eyes peeking out.

The blanket was mixed with Jotaro's scent, and this smell gradually calmed her uneasy heart.

"Jotaro-san, you're so good at taking care of others. You must have a lot of younger siblings at home, right?"

"I'm the only child in my family."

"Eh?" Nezuko was a bit incredulous.

Jotaro assumed Nezuko couldn't sleep due to the fright she received during the day. Seeing her curious about these things, he didn't mind revealing a bit more.

"My father was a jazz musician. I don't know what method he used, but he made my mother willingly leave America to follow him to Japan…"

Thinking of that nagging woman, a faint smile appeared on Jotaro's face.

While talking, Jotaro suddenly felt a soft and smooth hand like creamy jade cover his face. He looked up and saw that Nezuko had already fallen asleep.

"Yare yare…"

This girl's sleeping posture really was unusually bad.

Jotaro moved her outstretched arms and legs back under the blanket, then turned around and closed his eyes.
