Chapter 3 - 3

Avery went out after getting the phone call recording. With that much time, she had already fully sorted through the original host's memories.

"Miss, where are you going?"

The taxi driver stopped when he saw her flagging the car.

"Banshan Villa."

After Avery got into the car, she looked around. Even though she had ridden in cars before, that was over 20 years ago.

Seeing this kind of car now felt new to her. On the way, she kept looking around. There were so many tall buildings, and the streets were full of people and noise.

Seeing so many people made Avery really happy. She finally didn't have to be lonely anymore.

Even though she had no family here, at least there were people she could talk to.

"Miss, we've arrived at the entrance. Our taxis aren't allowed inside, so you'll have to get out here."

The taxi driver stopped the car at the entrance to Banshan Villa. This area was for the rich, and regular taxis weren't allowed in.

"You can't take me all the way to my house? If you don't drive me in, I don't have any money on me."

Right now, Avery didn't have anything on her. She only had two phones, one from the two people earlier because it had some evidence she wanted, so she took it.

"You're not planning to ride for free, are you? If your home is in there, how do you not know outside cars aren't allowed?

You're just a young girl. Don't try to cause trouble.

Hurry up and pay me so I can go. If this turns into a scene, it won't look good for you."

The driver raised his voice when he heard she had no money, though he still spoke politely since people living here were all rich and powerful.

"Then how about you wait here? I'll go in and get the money for you, is that okay?"

Avery had no choice. She had a lot of things in her space, but not money from this place.

"Girl, do you trick people like this often? Once you go in, how am I supposed to find you? This place is huge. You think I'm dumb?"

The driver started to lose his patience. He drove to make money for his whole family. If he didn't get paid, this trip would be a loss, and he'd still have to pay for gas.

"Then park your car to the side and come in with me. Don't worry, I'll give you the money for the delay too."

If that didn't work, she would have to give him the gold ring from her space.

"Alright."

The driver didn't have another choice. He couldn't just do something to a young girl, that would get him in trouble.

"Sis, you're back! Where did you go last night? You didn't come home."

Rose was the first one to see her in the living room. She had just gotten a call from those two men saying the mission failed. She was angry and wanted to see when that stupid girl would come home and ask where she had been.

"Avery, you're a girl and stayed out all night. Did the rules I taught you all go to waste?

You'd better tell me clearly where you went last night.

If not, I'll break your legs so you won't go out and embarrass us again."

Mr. Lu had just come downstairs to eat breakfast. Seeing his daughter come home from outside, he was instantly furious.

"Dad, don't say that now. First give me 100 yuan.

I took a taxi back, and I haven't paid yet. You don't want others to laugh at us, right?"

Avery ignored what they said and ran over to him, holding out her hand for money.

"Avery, you've completely embarrassed the Lu family. The daughter of the Lu family, asking for just 100 yuan? That's pathetic."

July heard her asking for 100 yuan and was so angry he stood up from the couch.

The Lu family was a top-tier wealthy family, one of the top ten richest in Longqi Nation.

She was a daughter of the Lu family, and yet she came back asking for 100 yuan. This was just so embarrassing.

Avery looked at her biological brother and found it funny seeing him so angry.

"Sigh, I really can't come up with 100 yuan.

If I remember correctly, I just turned 18 today. That's right, from today on, you all have the right and reason not to give me any money.

But in this house, no one has ever really given me money before.

Even the food I ate was what you all had left over, and the clothes I wore were all things Rose didn't want anymore.

Sigh, I, the so-called daughter of the Lu family, really am too pitiful. But it won't be like this anymore."

Avery looked at Mr. Lu and July, then quickly turned to the driver and said:

"Uncle driver, how about you let me owe you this fare for now?

I just turned 18 today. I can start working tomorrow, and don't worry, I will definitely pay you back.

If I can't find a job, even if I have to pick up trash, I'll make sure I repay this fare.

Please leave me your number. I'll call you in three days.

If you really don't trust me, you can record a video of me saying this as proof, is that okay?"

Avery looked like she was about to cry from how wronged she felt. The original girl was too weak, so life in this house had always been hard.

But now it was her. She would never let anyone bully her again.

The driver stood silently to the side, not daring to say anything. He couldn't afford to offend such a rich family.

He didn't expect the daughter of the Lu family to be in this kind of situation!

But he still needed the fare. He had a family to support, so he just stood there silently.

"You worthless girl, what nonsense are you saying? It's just 100 yuan. Here, take it.

Stop embarrassing me. If you keep doing this, I'll have the housekeeper teach you how a proper daughter should act."

Madam Luo sat at the dining table, furious after hearing what this unfilial girl said. She took 100 yuan from her bag and threw it on the ground.

She truly looked down on this daughter, who had been lost since she was little.

Even though she gave birth to her, by the time they found her, she had already grown up and been raised by a woman from the countryside, completely lacking manners.

She couldn't take her out in public, because every time she did, she would be so embarrassed that she couldn't lift her head.

"No need. I already said I'm 18 today. I'm an adult now.

From now on, I'll earn my own money and support myself. I won't trouble you anymore."

Avery wiped her eyes and turned to the driver again.

"Uncle driver, can you please wait here a little longer? I'll go to my room and see if I can find anything worth 100 yuan.

If I do, I'll give it to you in exchange for the fare, okay?

But I don't think I have anything worth over 100 yuan.

Still, I'll try to find a few things and make up the full amount.

Uncle driver, please have pity on me. I really don't want to owe you this 100 yuan."

"That's enough. Your mother already gave you 100 yuan, and you're still making a scene.

Say one more word and I swear I'll strangle you right here, you disgraceful brat."

Mr. Lu was so angry at what she said that he walked over, ready to slap this ungrateful girl.

Taxi drivers talk fast and meet a lot of people.

If word of this got out, how would the Lu family save face?

This clueless, foolish girl—how could someone like her be his daughter?

If not for the DNA test, he would never believe it. He still couldn't believe such an embarrassing girl was really his child.
