Chapter 4 - His Majesty's mate

For the first time in her history this was the first task she found challenging but she loved something as tough as this because she believed that it would only make her stronger.

As the healer checked her pulse and everything else, she got things straight up about her new life.

'My name is Sofia Mann, I'm eighteen years old. I lost my family when I was just six years old. I was then raised by Diego Grey and he told me everything that happened to my family and how it also affected him. He added me to the group of people who also suffered because of the royal Lycan family, seeking revenge and justice.'

She was quiet outwardly as she gathered this information but she knew that the Lycan king was staring at her.

'If I'm not wrong, the wolf before me who is my mate is twelve years older than me.'

She grimaced her face upon learning about the age gap between them. 'He's that old?' she glanced at him. Her siren eyes made her look like she didn't care about anything. She looked like she was tired of life when she had no expression on her face.

'He's my mate, and I can feel this awful sensation of wanting to be around him but that isn't going to make me weak or anything.'

Sofia, though in her past life was a gangster, she never had anything to do with men, not even sexually because of what happened to her the night she ran away from the orphanage at seven.

She was a strong-hearted girl but had a weakness. Everyone had a weakness or more and she happened to have a few weaknesses.

Therefore, the bonding feeling between the Lycan and her, though was a bit mind-controlling, she was disgusted by it.

She dragged her gaze away from him and continued installing important information about her new life.

'The old Sofia was a weakling so I cannot suddenly change. I have to take things steadily, which requires patience,' she bit her lower lip and muttered a curse word. 'Patience?' she thought.

'I guess I'm given this chance to live so that I can prove how powerful I am by being tested with things I find hard to control.' she took a deep breath in and exhaled. I can do this. I can avenge the death of my family in this life. Finally I found a reason to fight, not for any master but for myself.' She made a conclusion and returned to the room.

The healer was done checking on her and gave Nathan, the Lycan king, a positive response about Sofia's health.

Sofia rolled her eyes. "I told you that I'm fine but you find it hard to believe your own mate," she sneered.

"Can I take her away?" Nathan asked the healer.

"She's fine and can move but would need to keep using the ointment on the bruise and eat more protein for fast healing," explained the healer.

"Is it because I'm weak, an omega that I need to do all this?" Sofia was annoyed because they were treating her like the weakling the previous Sofia was.

"You need to heal and be fine," Nathan stated with concern.

"If I wasn't an omega I wouldn't even be here. I would have healed a long time ago," she wasn't wrong but they looked at her as if she was speaking lies. "I don't need that stuff, I'll heal on my own," she told the healer sternly.

Stillness enveloped the room. "Excuse us," commanded the Lycan king.

The two men holding the large lanterns hung it to the wall and walked out after the healer left. The door went closed.

Sofia was about to speak when a voice told her to keep quiet and listen to what Nathan had to say as what she was going to say would be rude anyway.

"I'm sorry," was what said when he settled close to her. "I know you are upset because you think I have something going on with Lilliana but what you saw isn't the case, Sofia, will you hear me out?" He spoke in a soft, measured tone.

It made her a bit uncomfortable because somehow she was driven to listen to what he had to say even though his statement reminded her of something she experienced in her past life.

She was quiet, expecting him to go ahead and explain what really happened as if she cared but she expected that the conversation they were about to have about that night would lead to something about accepting each other, which would be the success of the first part of the mission.

"I don't care if you are an omega, Sofia. I'd choose you over and over because you are mine. Lilliana was just expressing how disappointed she was to learn that she isn't for me..." Sofia interrupted him because she couldn't hold it in anymore.

"But you entertained her rants. She'd think you wanted her and she called me a low life. What do you expect me to think after hearing that?" she murmured, acting like she was hurt by what happened.

"I was stupid. I shouldn't have," he sounded apologetic but she cut in again.

"I'm just an omega, your majesty, you shouldn't call yourself stupid for a low life like me. It's improper," she sounded distressed but it was all a facade.

"And you are his majesty's mate," he stated.

"But..." he didn't let her talk.

"I was at fault and was a jerk for letting her in," he was adamant but it only made Sofia believe him less.

She had witnessed men from her world acting all good and innocent, wanting to fix things but ended up taking their woman's life because they were only willing to change the first time but afterwards, they do exactly what they apologize for again and again.

"Yeah," she reacted. "You want me," she was tired of hearing him trying to prove to her that he was willing to change and was sorry about what he did. She didn't care anyway so it was time she let it go.

But one thing bothered her suddenly. If Nathan was lying to her about wanting an omega like her, that must mean that he was after something but what?

She couldn't think of what he might be after, but she must work on figuring that out before proceeding with the next step of her mission.
