In that moment, it felt like something was caught in Rachel's throat.
George gave a small, self-deprecating smile. "Honestly, I already thought about changing jobs before you said anything. Working at the sanitation department... I can see my whole life laid out right in front of me. I want to try something new, take on some challenges while I'm still under 30."

If it were the old Rachel, she probably would've chosen the unknown road full of risks rather than a steady life that felt predictable.
But after everything she had gone through, she had learned that stability was the most important thing.
Taking a deep breath, Rachel said,
"Actually, you really don't have to take what I said that day to heart. I just don't want you wasting your time on me. I don't feel that way about you, so there's no way we could end up together."
