Chapter 6 - Chapter 6- A Little Secret

Just before sunrise, when the sky was still a bit dark, just the shallow rays of the sun brighten the sky, Damien made his way to the library to return the book, pushing the door and stepping inside slowly, "why is this place always open?" his mind reeled, he went straight to the exact tall book shelf where he saw the book the first time, without a second choice he kept the book back, just as he was about turning around to leave the library, his leg suddenly bashed the edge of the shelf which made a weird noise, then a large sized magazine yearbook fell directly on the floor , "hm, what could this be this?" he questioned himself as he picked it up and had a short glance at the book before rolling it and inserting it in his back pocket, ready to leave, a husky voice echoed from his back which held him at his spot, "what are you doing here at dusk, young lad" the shabby librarian said, "nothing sir, just passing by" he quickly said and rushed out of the library without turning back, "such a weirdo" he said slowly as he left the library added with a chuckle.

"Hi", a voice said from a far distance, Damien stopped and turned to look at the person, it was no other person than Diana, she walked towards him, "good morning" he replied, feeling so nervous, "I'm pretty sure you know my name already," she said with a straight face, "yh I do, I'm Damien Oscar by the way" he added, "sorry are we related by any chance, cause I've never seen you before?" he asked just to be sure of what he's dealing with, "I don't know, but I guess so, we'll find out soon, see you later", she said which made Damien more confused and she left in a classy way.

Staring at all the decorations and flowers that were being arranged, really made Damien's curiosity highly piqued, while he was striding back to the hostel, he wasn't focused on his direction rather he was turning back and staring at all the decorations, he suddenly bumped into Brian. "hey" Damien said, "sorry I didn't see you coming" he added apologetically, "hope you've returned that weird damn book?, Brian asked looking deep into his eyes, "yeah I have, seriously, heart crossed" he said and smiled, "but, I found a magazine, it's not all bad" Damien said, "yeah sure whatever", "What's all this whole wild preparation for anyways", Damien couldn't help but to ask, " oh yeah all this, well it's just a normal function or more of a party, they usually hold, where they invite parents" Brian added, "hey guys", suddenly Elizabeth came from nowhere and joined them, seems she has been watching from a distance, "hi" Brian said, "hey, it's been a while though" Damien added, "yeah it has" she added, "hope you all good and ready for today, cause I am" she sounded really happy about it, Damien noticed, "why you all happy about this function?" Damien asked, "Cause duh, the royal highness of Eri-doria is coming, and guess what…." She said and paused at the ending with a funny facial expression, "What?" Damien was clueless, "they are my parent," she said, "wow, that's good, so you are a royalty" he asked and smiled, "yes, I am" She laughed and added, "Yeah yeah, we all know that, let's go get ready for the function", Brian added.

The function was held in the wild field, with different tables all over the place, with designs and decorations. Students and some parents began to occupy the place, and Damien stood near the entrance of the function, his eyes darting around as he waited. The music played softly in the background, and people laughed and talked, but none of it mattered to him right now. His hands were buried in his pockets, his mind was restless. Then, at last, a sleek black car drove into the gathering. Damien straightened. The door opened, and out stepped his father, Ethan Oscar.

"hey kiddo, it has been a while," Ethan said, "yeah dad, it has Damien replied, "so how are things going on over here do you like it here?" he asked, Damien's response was manageable too his ears, "yh kind of, still exploring the whole section, but dad you know, I don't have any powers, but I still get those weird dream, where I hear voices and scream, it's like they're calling me., ' Damien said, Ethan expression shifted which showed a mixture of fear and worriedness but he quickly masked it with a forced smile, "don't worry boy, with time things will make sense," he said, before reaching the glass of wine in front of him, Damien narrowed his eyes. He knew that tone, his father was hiding something fishy. He had a hint his father had a secret that he didn't want to spill, "Dad is there something you haven't told me yet, maybe about my mom or something" Damien was desperate, he was turning eighteen soon with no powers and no story about his mother, he needed answers, "well, first off, this isn't a good place to talk about that, you know," Ethan said sipping the wine from its fancy glass again, "that's what you say all the time when I talk about mom, its either you tell me now or we both leave here together", Damien stated out. It all took a while before Ethan finally told him the story of his mom and how she died during his birth, and the heavy chaos of Eri-doria on the 15th day of November, which coincidentally fell on the day of his birth, "it was pretty scary" he ended the story with those words, it left Damien speechless for a while before he came back to reality, "wow, pretty scary" he added, "just cheer up son, it ain't your fault and besides the function is ongoing" he said and smiled. "Now, it's time for our powerful students to showcase their incredible abilities! Please give them a warm round of applause," Principal K announced with a smile as she stood gracefully on the podium. As the audience clapped enthusiastically, a group of students stepped onto the podium, each making a stylish entrance, ready to demonstrate their skills. "I shall begin with a brief info of their name, then their power showcasing", she added.

"Firstly, we have Liora Blaze, with the powers of Fire conjuring," Principal K said, just then she walked to the stage classically, with her well-fitted uniform, and stared at the audience, the King and Queen sat on a high table with their daughter Elizabeth, all watching and having fun. Just then, Liora snapped her fingers, and a flickering flame danced at her fingertips. With a graceful spin, she sent a stream of fire spiraling around her, forming rings that hovered midair. As a final move, she clapped her hands together, making the flames explode into dazzling golden sparks that rained down like fireworks. "Thank you," she ended, as a round of applause filled the air. "Secondly, we have Orion Steele, the powers of Gravity manipulation," she said, and gasps from the audience filled the air. Orion took a deep breath, then raised his hands into the sky. Suddenly, the podium itself trembled as the gravity around him shifted. He lifted himself effortlessly into the air, floating weightlessly, then pulled three metal spheres from his belt and made them hover in perfect synchronization before dropping them gently to the ground. "Thank you," he added, and another round of applause filled the air. "Thirdly, let's welcome, Nyx Evermore, the power of Shadow phasing," she said and smiled. Nyx smirked as she stepped forward. Her body shimmered like ink in water before disappearing into the shadow beneath her feet. Gasps filled the crowd as she reappeared behind Principal K in the blink of an eye. With a dramatic bow, she melted back into the darkness and reemerged in her original spot.

The audience erupted into applause, cheering at the breathtaking display of power. "That was extremely perfect and wonderful, I hope you all loved it" Principal K added and smiled, with a loud clap filling the air with laughter, "honored guests, esteemed citizens, and the proud people of Eri-doria, today we gather in celebration of our strength, heritage, and the boundless potential that unites us. Now, let us lend our ears and our hearts to the one who stands at the helm of our destiny, our sovereign, our king!" she said, "King Henry Quin," she completed, as rousing applause filled the air. He stood up from his seat, walked up to the stage, and gave a wonderful speech,

"Today, we stand together as one people, united in strength, tradition, and the unyielding spirit of Eri-Doria. This celebration is not merely a display of power, but a tribute to the courage, wisdom, and resilience that define our kingdom. Let the world witness our greatness, not just in might, but in unity, honor, and the pursuit of a brighter future. May this day inspire generations to come! Eri-Doria rises ever higher!", after some while the function came to an end with his words, the sky turned dark as the sun began to set slowly, "Damien you got to be a good boy, okay," Ethan said and advised him for a while, "Don't worry, Oscar, I got my eyes on him," Principal K said and smirked as Ethan drove away after some time, "Damien we have to talk!"
