No rejection in the history of the Forgotten Court had ever been as public—or as humiliating—as that of Kora Finelands. The wedding procession left in shame—but not the ministers.
Deep in the courtroom, Rowan sat with his hands resting on his throne.
"My king... the humiliation is too much, and for a man we know nothing about. Don't you think you've taken it too far?" George Fineland asked.
But Rowan just stared at them and said nothing.
"She is a daughter of the land. If you did not want her, why not reject her privately?" Minister Rebecca Styward added.
But still, Rowan was quiet. His gaze was cold, and so was his heart.
Two nights ago, he had been summoned for an urgent meeting. At first, he had thought nothing of it, only to arrive and be given an ultimatum. It was depressing, and the missing symbol had brought even more troubles.
He knew who was behind every question, every rejection—but he said nothing.
