Chapter 9 - Truths Of His Fate

Ilyara wasn't prepared for this. Her eyes widened as she froze on the spot, heart thudding in her chest like a hammer striking a wall. She cowardly pushed Silver away.

Her face turned beet red, the blush reaching all the way to her ears. One hand pressed against her chest, the other lingered on her lips as she stared at the grinning Silver, eyes still wide.

"Y-you... you, what—why?"

She stammered, unable to form coherent words to explain her shock.

Silver licked his lips and smiled. "I just wanted a taste. Now, shall we sit and discuss a few things?"

With that, he pulled out a chair and sat down. Ilyara, still reeling, grabbed a chair nearby and seated herself. They both faced Drusilla, though Ilyara remained too caught up in the moment of Silver's kiss to pay her sister much attention.

Drusilla noticed and it pissed her off. She had kidnapped the half-breed's human toy to mess with her, but it seemed she'd misjudged a few things.

First off, the human was clearly more important to Ilyara than she had realized, important enough that even their father's seal couldn't fully restrain Ilyara's power when she got enraged.

Second, there was something off about the human. Drusilla couldn't put her finger on it, but he wasn't normal. Anyone else would have been terrified by Ilyara's outburst, but he'd kissed her without hesitation. Without fear.

Third, it was clear her sister still held too much power—power Drusilla couldn't afford to provoke. Not right now. The seal wasn't strong enough.

Their father had explained it clearly: all Veil Monsters—Vampires, Fae, and the like—were bound in semi-human flesh for a reason.

It had to do with the Veil Layers. The higher the Layer, the more frightening a Veil Monster became, though it depended on several factors if a weaker Veil Monster wanted to climb from the bottom to the top.

All Veil Monsters in the mortal world were descendants of Chaotic Monsters from the Second Veil Layer. Their blood had simply been diluted by human ancestry.

Chaotic Monster, referred to a Veil Monster's true form—something less than human. In the mortal world there were two types of Veil Monsters: the True Ancestor Veil Monsters—Former Chaotic Monsters that descended to the First Veil Layer—The Mortal World and the Mixed-Blood Veil Monsters those who have human diluded blood.

Unfortunately, Drusilla had learned long ago she belonged to the latter. Still, she took pride in the fact that the purity of her blood was stronger than even her grandfather's—and stronger than most vampires, for that matter.

Her father further explained what made Ilyara special enough to affect the First Veil Layer had something to do with Ilyara's mother, the mistress that hails from the Second Veil Layer. She had escaped from there from her family of an Ancient lineage of Succubus.

Ilyara of course doesn't know any of this, even now she still thinks she's the weakest member of the family. While in truth, she's a lot more special, which was like an insult to Drusilla who not only had to deal with the fact, she had a half-breed for a sister but a powerful one at that.

Exhaling a frustrated sigh, she said, "Ilyara what do you think you're doing involving a human into the supernatural world?"

Ilyara snapped out of her fantasies, rolling her eyes as she folded her arms underneath her chest "it has nothing to do with you."

Drusilla snorted, "it has everything to do with me, what you're doing affects the entire family. Do you want us to be the laughing stock of everything, due to your stupid decisions."

"Then what would you have me do, huh?" Ilyara shouted, "I am the black sheep of the family. Hated since birth for no reason. I endured all of it, and now that I have found my sole reason to live, you want to take it from me. Fuck off!"

Drusilla reeled back from her sharp words that felt like a slap on the face. She opened her mouth, ready for a counter agument but nothing came out.

Silver saw an opening he had been waiting for, he leaned forward, his eyes directed at Drusilla, "tell me, why do you hate Ilyara?"

Drusilla turned to Silver, eyes flashing with a cold light, "because she's a half-breed, she's the reason..."

*Mom, look what I found, its a beetle, isn't it—ow!*

*Drusilla, in this household you must conduct yourself in the outmost class. Don't go playing with bugs and go learn your etiquette, so that you can act like a proper lady next time.*

"Because..."

*Dad, I don't want to fence, I don't want to fight, I want to be like Sarah.*

*You want to be a lowly maid?! It seems Sarah has been filling your head with nonsense. I'll make an example out of her. She's fired.*

"B-because..."

*Grandpops, why do mom and dad hate me?*

*Because that's what happens when you become an adult, you become bitter.*

*Then I won't grow up, so that I don't become bitter.*

*I wished that were possible, little pumpkin. But this world, it has a way of turning even the kindest of souls into bitter people. I hope someday when you yourself reach that stage, you'll become the best of us. Promise me, little pumpkin.*

*Don't worry Grandpops, I won't ever turn bitter. I promise you.*

"Grandpops," Drusilla unconsciously muttered, her eyes glazed over. When they cleared she met the intense stare of Silver. She looked away and saw concern in Ilyara's gaze.

*Big Sis, look, look, look..*

*What is it you half-breed?*

*It's a beetle, isn't it cool?*

*Get that thing away from me. And get away from my sight. I don't know why you keep bothering me.*

*Because Big Sis is like me.*

*What did you say? I'm nothing like a filthy half-breed.*

*It's true, big sis is like me. Big Sis is also alone with no one.*

*Don't.. ugh.. whatever, I'm leaving.*

'Why do you continue to look at me that way, why can't you just leave me alone? Why can't you just hate me? Why?!!'

Ilyara reached out her hand, but Drusilla recoiled, pulling away. She got up, looked at Ilyara one last time, before leaving.

Silver was a silent observer, but something in him was edging for him to go after her. But he resisted, he didn't owe this voice or Drusilla anything. He will gladly be the bad guy, after all he wasn't being paid to care about her.

Silver turned his gaze to Ilyara, "should we go, or are you going after her?"

Ilyara thought about it with a pensive expression. She wanted to go after her, but she knew how Drusilla would respond. In the end, she breathed out a tired sigh, and shook her head.

"I think we should go."

Both Silver and Ilyara didn't know, but they would come to regret their decision. Especially Silver who should've known better, but at that time, he hadn't yet rebirth and hadn't seen the truths of his fates.
