Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Turbulent Undercurrents

In a secret base on the outskirts of Jiangcheng City, Chen Mo and Zhao Jianfeng were staring intently at the computer screen. The conversation between Xu Mingyuan and the foreign drug Lord in the voice recorder was clearly distinguishable, every word sharp like a knife. However, just as they were about to hand in the evidence, Zhao Jianfeng's phone suddenly rang. It was a call from his daughter's class teacher: "Captain Zhao, your daughter suddenly has a high fever and is now in the hospital..."

Zhao Jianfeng's face turned pale in an instant. Chen Mo's heart tightened, and he recalled Su Qing's threat before leaving. They are giving us a warning. Chen Mo said in a deep voice, "Hurry to the hospital. I'll stay here." Zhao Jianfeng hesitated for a moment, but eventually left in a hurry.

Chen Mo was alone in the base, carefully studying the waterproof box salvaged from the river surface. Inside, apart from a large number of account books and documents, there is also an encrypted USB flash drive. Just as he was trying to crack the password of the USB drive, a strange noise suddenly came from outside the base. Chen Mo quickly turned off the lights, drew the pistol hidden at his waist, and warily looked around.

In the darkness, the footsteps drew nearer and nearer. Chen Mo held his breath, waiting for the best moment. The moment the dark figure approached the door, he pounced out suddenly and pinned the other person firmly to the ground. "It's me!" A familiar voice came, and only then did Chen Mo realize that the person who came was actually his former classmate from the police academy - Li Ran, who now worked at the provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection.

Li Ran, panting for breath, took out a document from his bosom: "I found this in the archives of the provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection. It's an important clue about the forces behind Xu Mingyuan." Chen Mo took the document, which recorded a top-secret project called the "Deep Sea Project", involving multiple high-ranking government officials and foreign forces, and Xu Mingyuan was just a pawn in it.

Meanwhile, in the hospital, Zhao Jianfeng stood by his daughter's bedside, only to find that her "high fever" was rather strange. He quietly took a blood sample from his daughter for testing. The result showed that his daughter had been given chronic poison. Zhao Jianfeng was furious and was about to call Chen Mo when his phone suddenly received an anonymous text message: "If you want to save your daughter, hand over the evidence."

Zhao Jianfeng clenched his mobile phone tightly, a trace of ruthlessness flashing in his eyes. He didn't reply to the text message. Instead, he promptly contacted the forensic doctor he trusted and asked him to conduct an in-depth examination of his daughter's condition. Then, he sent another encrypted message to Chen Mo: "The enemy is stronger than we imagined. Be very careful."

Back at the secret base, Chen Mo and Li Ran were analyzing the documents of the "Deep Sea Project". Suddenly, a series of intense gunshots came from outside the window. Chen Mo looked out of the window and saw dozens of black-clad armed men surrounding the base completely. They still came. Chen Mo clenched his pistol tightly. "Li Ran, take the evidence and go through the secret passage. I'll handle the aftermath."

Li Ran, however, shook his head and said, "Let's go together. We can't afford to lose these pieces of evidence." The two evacuated carefully from the secret passage, and the gunshots behind them were getting closer and closer. When they finally managed to escape, they found that the vehicles providing support had already been blown up.

Just when they were in a desperate situation, a police car roared towards them. It turned out to be Zhao Jianfeng who got off the car. It turned out that Zhao Jianfeng had already arranged a backup plan. The three people quickly got into the car. Zhao Jianfeng stepped hard on the accelerator, and the police car sped through the night. However, what they didn't know was that in the shadows of the city, pairs of eyes were staring intently at their every move, and a much larger conspiracy was brewing quietly...
