Chapter 14 - § Renbrandt Neighbours Will Be Good Tools §

I went to sleep that night completely wasted. A full day of training and no sleep for two days and a night. In a child's body on top of that.

The next morning arrived and after all else, I continued my research.

According to this world's laws, one can choose what their magic can do. That is, hypnosis, paralysis and all those sorts of crazy things. One can enduce them to a person.

But that always requires great skill and control. Very few people can even achieve such feats.

"I think this sounds familiar." I thought to myself.

With little effort, a memory came. The familiar explanation was something I saw.

My father used his energy to usurp control of my bracelet. That meant, his magic gave him control of whatever it was infused into.

Of course, I could be wrong. But the chances of that are very slim.

Well then, I think I can make something of own.

I took a look at all the material before me. The books, floor, everything else in my room. Somehow, a crazy idea came to my head.

What I needed now was to know about compulsion, fusion and matter manipulation. I'm certain I'll be unstoppable with those. Or a decent fighter at magic at that.

I, for the next hours or so, I spent my day in my room. I didn't leave for even a minute. That is of course until...

"Brother Atti!!" Kendal called out to me as she came rushing into the room.

The mess of books and a lot of scattered papers caught her attention, bringing her to a halt.

"Yes... how can I help you? Do you need something?" I said to her with a forced smile.

Yeah, I could now see the mess I made as well.

"Mother called for you. And I thought we can go for a walk. The neighbours have arrived too. Don't you want to make friends with the... boy there!" Her face seemed to be a little brighter.

I don't recall anything about having neighbours. Or maybe it's just something I didn't overhear.

I thought for a minute and I'm sure you can guess what I thought. I smiled without even being aware of it.

"Neighbours you say, right?" I asked to be sure. Kendal nodded a few times. I guess she was looking forward to leaving the family grounds even just for a while.

Well, I can't hide my satisfaction as well. Right now I was like a father looking forward to see his daughter grow up.

At that very moment, I dropped everything and properly composed myself. We left the room and walked downstairs. There some snacks and fruits waited for us. Some of which we ate and left after.

Leaving our family grounds, I could see people in the next large grounds that opened besides ours.

I guess those were the neighbours.

"You should be friends with them okay. You know how boring it is to be in a different place. I'm sure you also want to help them too, right?" I said to Kendal.

Manipulation is something I hate. But maybe I should use it, if that will help her, right?

Who cares about right or wrong when they're helping for one's happiness?

Kendal nodded and I didn't say more. We walked to the neighbour's doorstep and there we came to stand before the two boys who sat on the stairs.

One of them came and locked eyes with me. He had confident and mocking expression. I'm thinking this is the troublesome sibling.

"Hey there, I'm Atticus. We came to visit and introduce our neighbours. We live right over there." I pointed in the direction of our home. Of course, I feigned ignorance with a bright carefree smile.

Kendal stood right behind me.

"Oh is that so? We're going to be living here from today. Nice to meet you too, we're the Ranbrandt family." He said without stating his name.

By his behaviour, he was older than us, maybe ten already. Or he was just troublesome among the two of them.

"My sister here, Kendal, wanted to be friends with you. Do you mind being friends with us?" I asked again.

I directly avoided the gaze of the one before me and peeked at the silent brother behind him. He just locked eyes for a minute and he said nothing. Just dropped his gaze.

'Well this will be fun.' I thought to myself. Honestly, if I was romance writer, I would make a very interesting story.

Too bad I can't do that. I have enough on my playe as things stand.

"Hi.. hi, I'm Kendal Radars. Nice to meet you." Kendal said with her cute voice that was almost vanishing.

The she peeked from behind me. Her words seemed to soften the two brothers' faces. They blushed a little.

Easy to say, at that moment, I decided my job was done. Love stories are fate after all. I smiled a little and held Kendal's hand in mine.

"Anyway, come to our house tomorrow if you need anything. Kendal is really looking forward to being friends with you." That's all I had to say before I turned my back to leave with the girl.

Kendal didn't say or do anything as usual. She just followed behind me and we away from the two brothers.

"Hey you! Don't try to walk away from us. We're not done you know! Hey, stop right there I tell you." The older noisy brother shouted.

"Shouldn't we go and talk or ay with them. He seemed to want to be friends with us a lot." Kendal spoke into my ear, clutching my arm closer to her chest.

"Don't worry. He'll visit us tomorrow or any day now. You can wait for them at the gate okay?" I assured her.

My job was done. The more time they'll spend together, the closer they will get. That's bound to give them special feelings even in long coming future... right?
