Cherreads

Chapter 23 - OPRS: Chapter 23

"Boss, we survived?!" Amidst the cheers, one of the Devil's Luck Pirates' cadets, a tall and thin man with a goatee, asked the captain, "Devil's Luck" William, in disbelief.

"Uhmm..." William's face also had a dreamy expression, he seemed to be coming out of a daze.

"We survived!"

"Haha!!" The pirates below couldn't hold back their cheers and started celebrating.

"Oh yeah!!!" If they hadn't had their muskets and swords confiscated by the Kuja Island warriors, they would have thrown their weapons into the air.

Looking around, seeing all the smelly men covered in sweat, they thought better of it.

They were excited for three whole minutes. When they calmed down, they looked at each other, but they were a little disheartened.

"Those women are really strong."

"Why are they so strong? Muskets seem to have no effect on them..."

Although the battle had been lightning fast, with over thirty people killed in a single encounter, they had actually fired their muskets.

Modern muskets were too weak, not even as good as bows and arrows. Accuracy was even worse, after the smoke cleared, you wouldn't know where the shot went.

It was only natural that they didn't achieve anything against the Amazonian warriors.

But the most frightening thing on the battlefield was stray bullets. Even those with Haki could be shot and killed by a stray bullet if they weren't careful.

Of course, the more absurd it got, the more people's bodies would only suffer scratches and not serious injuries.

But... why?

William and his cadets all had thoughtful expressions on their faces. They couldn't figure it out. They didn't understand why the other side had spared them, but one thing they knew for sure was that the reason they had escaped with their lives was all because of that man.

That man held a very important position within the Kuja Pirates. And he was interested in them, so they were spared, and they even had a chance to leave the Calm Belt.

They didn't know that if they had the Mera Mera no Mi in their hands, they would definitely be able to leave the Calm Belt. But it was a big question mark how many of them would be left and how much life they would have left before leaving the Calm Belt.

This man saved them, but he had ulterior motives. This made the Devil's Luck Pirates uneasy.

But the man who made them uneasy was staring intently at the Mera Mera no Mi in his hand, his whole body twisting in anxiety.

"If you're so conflicted, why don't you just eat it?" Hancock couldn't stand it anymore. She leaned against her throne, lazily exuding an amazing charm. She lay on the throne, her hair falling over her shoulder, looking at the conflicted Alistair and asked.

In her opinion, Alistair's physique was really too weak. Without a Devil Fruit, he probably wouldn't be able to survive in this dangerous sea.

But she didn't know why Alistair was conflicted.

In Alistair's view, although there were Devil Fruits in this world, it wasn't because they ate Devil Fruits that they were strong, but because they would be strong no matter what Devil Fruit they ate, even if they didn't eat a Devil Fruit, they would still be strong.

Like the CP9 agents who had trained to the point where they were almost as good as Haki users, they had only eaten a few Zoan Devil Fruits, yet they were incredibly strong.

And Rayleigh, with his physical body alone, could fight evenly against the Logia user Kizaru. On the other hand, many people who ate powerful fruits didn't have much strength. The most typical example was Miss Valentine from Crocodile's Baroque Works. She could control her weight at will, from one kilogram to ten thousand kilograms. Instead of punching with ten thousand kilograms of force, she jumped up and pressed down on people.

Such a powerful ability used like this was the most typical example: weaklings, even if they ate the best fruit, wouldn't necessarily become strong.

Did he have the heart of a strong person now?

Was he ready?

He didn't know, so he was confused, conflicted, hesitant.

Then he put the fruit back in the treasure chest and increased his training volume.

If he didn't die from training, he would train until he died!

He was determined. Although he had a tendency to want to eat the Mera Mera no Mi, he wasn't worthy of eating it now.

He remembered Luffy's training volume on Amazon Lily. Although he couldn't compare to Luffy's training volume, his current training volume was indeed too small.

He had to push himself harder and squeeze out his potential.

But even with training, it was only from seven in the morning to three in the afternoon. Around three o'clock, he would get on the lifeboat with food and go to the Devil's Luck Pirates.

The Devil's Luck Pirates hadn't had a drop of water to drink yet. But luckily, they didn't need to fight or sail. Even the navigator, helmsman, and captain were given a day off. They all slept until noon, and when they woke up, they were actually tired. They stretched and trained on the ship for a while, then they all hid under the deck to avoid the sun.

And it was about three o'clock.

When Alistair finished his work, he had the Devil's Luck Pirates row the lifeboat over, carry the food, and then leave with their lifeboat. This operation was too complex, and the ordinary Amazonian warriors couldn't understand it.

But Marguerite, as the ship's manager, understood it a little.

She followed Alistair on the lifeboat today, carrying food with those pirates. She was smoking a cigarette, and she said to Alistair, "I think I understand why you had them carry the food over here and then back again."

"Oh?" Alistair turned to look at her, interested. "What do you understand?"

"After carrying their food over, if we delay their meal by a few hours, they won't have much strength to fight. And whether they can eat or not on any given day will depend on our mood. We can control their lifeline. If we keep the food on their ship, they will still do their own thing. They won't have a clear understanding of being captured by us." But if you starve them for a meal, they will know who the boss is.

"Anything else?" Alistair knew that there were no management talents or books in this world, no management techniques. That's why he was so successful around the Celestial Dragons.

But if someone could learn management, then he would be able to save a lot of trouble in the future.

He couldn't help but test her.
