"Anything else?"
Marguerite was surprised that Alistair had even more considerations. She realized that his thinking was more comprehensive than hers.
Marguerite hadn't been privy to Alistair's strategies in the Empress's private quarters, so naturally, she didn't know what exactly about this seemingly powerless man captivated the Empress. Now, it seemed like he had some good ideas.
But she was a competitive person. Hearing Alistair's test, she couldn't help but lower her head and continue thinking. Anything else?
What else?
Alistair waited for a while, seeing that she was truly stumped, he smiled slightly. "There's also cultivating their obedience and discipline. Ultimately, making them understand reality, even after they leave the Calm Belt, their fate is tied to ours. If they want to escape, they won't know how long they can survive, so they will think more before running away."
"With the goods in our hands, my safety on their ship will unconsciously increase."
"Lastly..." Alistair chuckled, "I can organize how they eat, when they eat, where they eat, and how they eat."
"This is very important."
Marguerite's forehead creased in confusion. She clearly didn't understand why this way of eating was so important.
Obviously, this was a problem that only someone from the Great Eating Empire could understand.
Most pirate ships didn't have a "cook" position. What they ate was even more miserable than ordinary people on land. For example, salted meat or black bread that was as hard as stone.
But even so, these things could still get moldy or damaged, and there were even more rats stealing their food in the cargo hold.
Many pirate ships, especially those with a lot of people, had very poor living conditions. They were not much different from the early days of the Age of Exploration. The crew members lay in hammocks between two pillars, and everyone woke up with sore backs and aching muscles.
As for food, clothing, housing, and transportation, it was basically all a sham.
For example, taking a bath. It was impossible to bathe in the sea. The salt from the sea would dry on your skin, making your skin even more dry. You had to use fresh water to wipe your body clean.
And the fresh water on the ship couldn't be stored for long. Most of the fresh water was needed to wash the deck. Seawater was very corrosive to wood. It was fine to be constantly soaked in water, but once it was hit by seawater and then oxidized, the wood would rot very quickly. The remaining water would become stagnant and sour after four or five days, making it undrinkable.
That's why pirates appreciated alcohol even more. Rum and wine were both plant-based liquors. Rum was distilled from sugarcane. Low-quality rum contained some vitamins. As for wine, it was even better. Wine made by French monks contained more vitamins than rum.
Not every ship had a Nami who could grow oranges on the ship to ensure the crew's vitamin intake.
Alistair had brought over a hundred loaves of bread, two salted meats, and over a hundred bottles of rum, just to ensure their survival.
But when two hooks from the pirate ship dropped down, hooking onto the two iron rings at the front and back of the lifeboat, slowly pulling the lifeboat up with a winch, the pirates on the deck, who were eagerly waiting, wanted to rush forward, but Marguerite stopped them with her cannon pointed at them.
"Get some clean tables. The executives and above, come help me. Give me two clean, sharp knives," Alistair said to Devil's Luck William, without getting off the lifeboat.
"Everyone, stand in line, two rows." He said to William, while also speaking to the pirates who were getting a little restless.
Marguerite was right beside him. The cannon's threat was real. Talking to these pirates about Armament Haki and Observation Haki was useless. The only things that mattered were the swords, guns, and cannons that they could see and touch.
After a bit of commotion, they finally remembered that they were prisoners. Anyway, they calmed down. Alistair nodded silently, they were exactly as he expected.
Pirates were mostly the same. Brutal and cowardly, they weren't honest, they had their own little tricks. If they were really honest or reliable, they would either die under the oppression of the World Government's various kingdoms, or they would survive in a state of oppression. There was no other option.
Like Nami, such a clever and quick-witted girl, once something she cared about was in someone else's hands, she still couldn't escape.
These pirates were mostly people who had nothing.
Family, relatives, homeland, land, property...
They had nothing!
This was something Alistair suddenly realized that day when they were begging for mercy.
He originally wanted to infiltrate the Amazonian warriors, but they didn't have any of the conditions of revolutionaries. They had their own property, and Amazon Lily was even close to perfect harmony. There was money circulating within the kingdom, but most people didn't use money much, and their material needs were not high. This was probably related to their isolation, their low demands for quality of life, and their lack of strong trade and communication with the outside world.
They would never be moved by Alistair's "beautiful words." Because they hadn't experienced it firsthand, it was unrealistic to expect them to become great international warriors to liberate all of humanity.
He gave up on that idea.
But with the appearance of the Devil's Luck Pirates, his idea arose again, and it became stronger and stronger.
The Kuja Pirates were not representative. They were a special group.
Just like the Straw Hat Pirates in the future, they were special in themselves. Their bonds and way of survival were different from ordinary pirates, they couldn't be considered pirates.
But these less than ninety hungry people were representatives of the countless pirates on this vast sea.
As long as Alistair convinced them, he would be convincing the countless pirates on this vast sea, he would be recruiting countless troops. With their support, and after winning over the people, he would truly have the possibility of overthrowing the World Government.
Otherwise, a single Shichibukai would never be able to support a war against the World Government.
"Everyone line up on the left table, get your bread, then come to the middle table to get salted meat, and then go to the right table to get rum."
"Anyone who messes up won't get to eat today."
Alistair didn't preach any grand principles to them for now. The first lesson he taught them was discipline.
