"Looks like the security level of the base needs a complete upgrade!"
Nick Fury silently made a decision in his mind. Although this was purely a guess, with no solid evidence to support it, he couldn't afford to be too careful.
From a logical standpoint, the only extraterrestrial thing Nick Fury knew of on Earth was indeed the Tesseract.
He had to be on guard.
"Nick Fury, have you thought of something?"
Iron Man's attention was still very sharp. The slightest change in Nick Fury's expression was caught by Iron Man, who immediately turned to him and asked.
"Nothing." Nick Fury shook his head dismissively. There was no way he could reveal such important information.
Iron Man didn't continue to ask, but in his heart, he had already made a decision.
When the answering session was over and they returned, he would thoroughly crack SHIELD's systems and uncover the agency's hidden secrets.
He'd see if he could find any clues.
"The key information provided by the answering system is too little. We don't know why these aliens want to invade New York."
"Our only useful piece of information right now is their method of invasion: they came through a spatial wormhole to invade New York."
"Spatial technology is far beyond Earth's current technology. These aliens' technology must far surpass that of Earth."
"Alternatively, it could be some kind of magical power, but whichever it is, it shows that their civilization is far more advanced than ours."
Nick Fury continued analyzing, logically and with evidence.
This made Iron Man and Black Widow both look grim; this was not good news.
"Besides that, neither the Earth's military nor that so-called 'response team' could resist the alien invasion, which forced those in power to make the extreme decision of launching a nuclear missile."
Black Widow added, making the atmosphere even more tense.
"The footage only shows the battle in New York; we don't know whether the war spread to other cities."
"If it did, then this could very well be a global crisis!"
"Of course, I might be exaggerating, but in situations like this, it's better to plan for the worst."
Nick Fury spoke again in a low voice, "If this kind of thing really happens in the future, we must control the battlefield in New York!"
"Sir, that doesn't sound like an easy task." Black Widow shrugged.
"The portal! That's the key!"
After a moment of contemplation, Iron Man spoke up decisively. "We've already seen the alien fleet outside the portal. How massive that fleet is! Only an idiot would think about fighting against such a fleet."
"Since the aliens are invading New York through the portal, we just need to close the portal in time, right?"
Iron Man pointed out the core issue clearly.
"Stark, you're talking about spatial technology or magical power!"
Nick Fury also pointed out the critical problem. "According to the footage, the war may happen years from now. Can you master the currently sci-fi technology of spatial travel in just a few years? Or learn magic?"
"I don't know." Even Iron Man, who was usually very confident, had rarely put on such an expression.
Spatial technology was indeed far beyond the current era's capabilities. If he had enough time, Iron Man was confident that he could master it.
But just a few years? Even Iron Man didn't dare to boast about that.
As for magic? Don't even get started.
"Even if I can't master spatial technology, the portal is still a breakthrough." Iron Man paused for a moment before continuing, "And we saw that the portal is right above Stark Tower!"
"We can set up defenses in advance! For example... prepare a nuclear missile at Stark Tower. As soon as the portal opens, we can immediately launch the missile into it!"
Iron Man's suggestion made Nick Fury and Black Widow's eyes light up slightly.
Although Iron Man's suggestion was a bit idealistic, it was undeniably a direction worth trying.
Since at first, Earth was no match for the aliens, and they ended up resorting to a nuclear missile in the end, why not just use it from the beginning?
The footage clearly showed the location of the portal—it was indeed above Stark Tower.
Nick Fury was really considering this idea.
"There's an important issue." Black Widow suddenly seemed to think of something and solemnly reminded them, "If the nuclear missile is intercepted by the enemy, that would be disastrous."
If the nuclear missile is intercepted outside the portal, it would explode above New York, and that would destroy the whole city.
"Their civilization is far beyond Earth's, so intercepting a nuclear missile shouldn't be a problem for them, right?" Black Widow continued.
"No." Iron Man quickly shook his head. "Why was I able to fly into the portal with the nuclear missile without any interference?"
Black Widow froze for a moment; that was indeed true.
"Could it be that we destroyed their interception system during the battle?" Black Widow suggested, but even she wasn't convinced.
That was an alien civilization!
Let's not even talk about the Earth military breaking into the portal, but just getting into outer space and cracking the interception system was nearly impossible. After all, they were no pushovers.
A fleet could easily destroy any fighter that entered in just moments.
Even if the alien fleet let them try and crack it, there would be no way to start.
How could they break a civilization they didn't understand?
However, the fact was, Iron Man flew in swaggering and delivered the nuclear missile straight to the mothership without encountering any interception at all!
And Earth breaking the enemy's interception system didn't seem very realistic.
Here lay the contradiction.
"Could it be that Thor broke their interception system?" Nick Fury pondered and analyzed, "We don't understand interstellar civilizations, but maybe Thor does."
"I don't think so." Iron Man shook his head, dismissing the idea. "Civilization gaps between different species aren't that easily bridged. Unless Thor and the invading aliens are of the same species, I don't think Thor could have cracked their interception system."
"That makes sense... So, Thor and the Earth people teamed up to fight against his own species?" Black Widow asked, but then immediately negated the idea. "That seems unlikely."
Everyone fell into deep thought. The fact that the nuclear missile wasn't intercepted was indeed strange.
Let's not talk about an advanced civilization with portal technology; any fleet would have basic interception systems, right?
Otherwise, they'd become sitting ducks!
