Chapter 16 - Brothers

A black BMW parked right in front of the police station and Calhoun stepped out with his body guard, Sam trailing him. Kevin had just called him earlier saying he was arrested. To be precise, Kevin was his younger half brother, only 17. he quite liked him compared to Gavin, his older half brother.

'I've come to pick the kid you arrested last night' Calhoun said. He just wanted to take that brat back.

'Ha! Ha! Ha!' The inspector laughed. 'Young chap must think you can control the law just because you have some money.'

'Are you new in the area?' Calhoun asked with a rare patience in his voice making it sound like it was the inspector who was being unreasonable_ surely no one aware of his identity would dare to defy him like that.

'Yeah, I've just been transferred and I got that chap Driving Racing Cars. You know it is illegal. I failed to get his mates but with a few rounds I'll be sure to get the information I need.' The inspector answered coolly.

'I'll bail him out.' Calhoun offered.

'I'll be waiting for your lawyer_' the rest of the inspector's words were cut off when Calhoun signaled the man behind them and a brief case filled with new notes of money was placed right in front of the inspector.

'Lets make it simple, a trade where we both benefit and no one is hurt in the end, think about it.' Calhoun half expected him to refuse the offer and indeed he did.

'Sir, I can't accept this. You're fully aware this is a bribe and I can as well arrest you'

'Sure! I'd like to watch it happen.' Calhoun had a smile, an evil one at that and a devilish glint in his eyes. 'But you might regret it before you get to do anything,' he added as an after thought devoid of all smiles.

'Are you threatening a police officer? Constable! Arrest yhis man immmediately.' the inspector ordered. The poor constable was at a loss; he could not afford to offend Mr. Shelby but at the same time he could not disobey his superior. Beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

Calhoun shot the constable one look before turning and smiling at the inspector.

'Constable?' The inspector pressed on.

'Sir_I_can_' The constable was in a serious dilemma.

Calhoun picked u the phone and made a short call.

'Mr. Commissioner...not much...thank you' Calhoun hung up and the landline on the inspector's desk rang immediately.

'Hello...Oh! Mr. Commissioner sir....let him go?...but_sure.' the inspector now saw the young chap seated in front of him in a new light. Must be quite influential but still he isn't above the law. He didn't know which position the chap held for him to have the police commissioner wrapped around his finger. Anyway, for now his superior had ordered him to let the kid go.

'This way.' the inspector rose from his desk and led the way personally.

Back in the cell, Kevin was seated at royal ease, his head was lulled back and his bangs had put a shadow over his sinister look_ It ran in the family. He looked at the metallic door when he heard footsteps shuffling towards his cell_ it must be Calhoun. He had purposely not informed Gavin and instead called Calhoun. Although he seemed distant, he knew he cared about blood ties; in fact Gavin was too hard on him, warning him like an annoying dad whilst Calhoun was lenient with him. If he had called Gavin, of course he would bail him out with terms of doing some community service.
