Chapter 14 - Disguised Prophecy Ability

"But..." Bertram looked like he had something he couldn't bring himself to say.

"But what?" The Ice Lake Girl looked at him, surprised.

"I do know a bit more, but I'm not even sure if it's real or not!" Bertram said, uncertain.

"What do you mean?" the Ice Lake Girl asked.

"Sometimes... I don't know how to explain it, but weird scenes and information just show up in my eyes. And later, most of the time, those scenes actually happen..." Bertram hesitated, like he was revealing something really important.

"What? You mean you randomly see strange scenes in your eyes?" The Ice Lake Girl suddenly sat up straight. Her normally cold face showed a hint of excitement.

"Yeah, that's right. Is that bad or something?" Bertram asked, a little nervous.

"Tell me exactly what you've seen," the Ice Lake Girl said, trying to stay calm even though she was clearly interested.

"I saw some stuff about those men in black kidnapping people. They met with this young lord and said something about the Jackson Family..." Bertram said, his face showing that he was trying hard to remember.

"Jackson Family? Why would they be involved?" The Ice Lake Girl frowned, obviously skeptical.

"These scenes just appear out of nowhere. Not all of them happen, okay?" Bertram said quickly.

"No. If you're seeing them, then they will happen," the Ice Lake Girl said, shaking her head.

"There's an ability that shows the future. It's super rare and can't be picked up by any ability-detecting machines. The person with it can't control it and only sees random pieces of the future sometimes. But those pieces always end up being true!" she explained seriously.

"In history, that kind of ability has only shown up three times. Even though it doesn't help much in a fight, it's actually more valuable than combat powers because it can predict what enemies are going to do!" she continued.

"Wait, are you saying I have some kind of prophetic ability?" Bertram asked, shocked.

"It's not 100% confirmed, because sometimes personal thoughts get mixed in with real visions. In the past, over a hundred people claimed to have this kind of ability, but only three were actually confirmed," the Ice Lake Girl said.

"Other than what you just told me, have you seen anything else?" she asked, staring straight at him.

This wasn't just about her sister anymore. It was about figuring out if Bertram really had this rare ability. If he did, then he would be worth more than anyone imagined.

"I also saw a young man. He seemed to be after some treasure from your Olson Family. And Miss Isla seems to be held in..." Bertram said.

"Where is she being held?" the Ice Lake Girl asked urgently.

"In the underground coal mine in East Sector 9!" Bertram replied right away.

Could this guy really have a prophetic ability? The Ice Lake Girl was stunned.

"Have you told anyone else about this... about seeing these pieces of information?" she asked.

"No..." Bertram shook his head.

"You need to keep this a secret for now. That includes your ability to see these fragments and everything we talked about today. Pretend like none of this ever happened," she said seriously.

"Oh, and give me your phone," she added.

Bertram handed it over without a word.

The Ice Lake Girl dialed a number, and a few seconds later, her own phone started ringing in her pocket.

"My name is Whitney. This is my number," she said.

Whitney handed the phone back to Bert.

"Stay at school for now. Don't leave, and wait for me to come back!"

Bert quickly took the phone and nodded.

"I need to leave for a bit," Whitney, the Ice Lake Girl, said as she walked out of the office.

Whether Bert's information was real or not would depend on her checking it herself.

If it turned out to be true, not only could she save her sister, but she might've also discovered someone with the rare prophetic ability.

Bert watched Whitney leave, feeling a wave of relief hit him.

Pretending to have the ability of prophecy was the best move he could think of.

The information about Isla's location had to come from somewhere, and if he wanted the Olson Family to protect him, he had to be worth something.

With his unlimited life simulation ability, pretending to have this kind of power was almost foolproof.

"The prophecy ability can't be found through ability tests. Once Whitney confirms that the Jackson Family is behind it and rescues Isla from the underground coal mine in East Zone 9, my prophetic ability will be confirmed!"

"By then, changing my fate should be a success!"

"If the Jackson Family tries to come after me again, I'll just tell the Olson Family I predicted their moves and turn it all back on them!"

Meanwhile, after leaving the school, Whitney immediately made a call.

"My sister has been kidnapped, and I think the Jackson Family is involved. I need your help!"

"Uh... are you sure it's really the Jackson Family?" The voice on the other end of the call sounded serious.

"There's a high chance it is," Whitney replied coldly.

"Alright. The Jackson Family really has gone crazy over that item. But this means we'll lose a member from our Doomsday Squad," the voice sighed.

"It's just one member. I'll find you someone better," Whitney said.

"What do you mean? You already have someone in mind?"

"This time, the Jackson Family moved against my sister, and I didn't notice a thing. It was someone with prophetic abilities who saw it coming!"

"Prophetic abilities? Are you sure it's not fake?" The voice sounded both excited and cautious. They'd had too many false alarms before.

"He told me exactly where my sister is. Whether he's right or not, we'll find out ourselves," Whitney said.

"Alright. I'll bring the team over right away!" The voice now sounded motivated.

Whitney ended the call and muttered, "Young master of the Jackson Family, whoever you are, the Doomsday Squad will be enough to show you what we're capable of!"

As Whitney began her preparations, Bertram was also setting his plan into motion.

He headed toward the Wanxing Auction House.

"A dried-up cocoon in the waste area of the Wanxing Auction House is about to hatch into an S-class interdimensional creature— the Seven-Star Phantom Death Butterfly. Who would've thought something like that could happen?"

Bertram's eyes lit up with excitement.

"If I can get that cocoon, my power will explode!"
