The atmosphere between the two of them had just eased up a bit when another woman's voice interrupted.
"Rhett, why didn't you wait for me outside?"
The sound of high heels approached, and Elise's stunningly beautiful face appeared in front of the two.
She noticed the two standing there, slowed down her steps, and glanced at Kelsey, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes. "Miss Irwin, what are you doing here? Is there something you need?"
She naturally stood next to Rhett, reaching out to take his arm.
The man looked down at her, furrowing his brows slightly, but didn't push her away, only asking, "Do you know her?"
Elise affectionately leaned against his arm and smiled, "I just met her earlier. I thought she was one of my fans."
Watching the natural intimacy between the two, Kelsey felt as if she had been struck by lightning and couldn't react for a moment.
Her eyelashes trembled, and she clenched her fingers tightly. "Mr. Clark…"
Just by listening to her voice, one could hear the tremble in it, as well as the surprise and pain that flashed in her eyes.
Rhett looked at her in this state and felt inexplicably annoyed.
Elise, however, seemed not to notice Kelsey's discomfort and introduced her with a smile, "You probably guessed it, he's my fiancé, here to accompany me for my check-up."
At that moment, Kelsey's mind went blank.
…Prenatal check-up?
She looked at Elise's belly, a hint of crimson creeping up the corner of her eye. "The baby you're carrying… is Mr. Clark's?"
"Mm-hmm." Elise nodded happily, a sweet smile on her face. Suddenly, she seemed to realize something and looked at Kelsey in confusion. "You've been calling him Mr. Clark all this time. Do you know my fiancé?"
As she spoke, she turned to Rhett, looking at him curiously as if to ask.
Kelsey also instinctively looked at the man.
After a moment, she heard his cold and cruel words: "I don't know her."
I don't know her…
Kelsey stepped back. She was his wife, at least for now, but he said he didn't know her in front of another woman...
Elise seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. "I thought you had female friends I didn't know about!"
She half-joked, half-angered, "If that were the case, I would have done what I did six months ago and aborted your baby!"
Six months ago?
Kelsey's heart trembled as she looked at the man in front of her in disbelief.
They had only been married for six months, and Elise's belly was about five or six months pregnant...
Rhett seemed too preoccupied to notice Kelsey's emotions. When he heard Elise threaten to abort the baby again, his brow furrowed and he sternly scolded, "Nonsense!"
Elise was startled by him and immediately frowned, "You're scaring me…"
Upon hearing this, the man's expression softened a bit, and his tone was mixed with a hint of comfort, "Don't be angry, it's not good for the child."
Elise sniffed and looked helpless, "I just wanted you to comfort me. If you really wanted to get rid of the child, you would have done it six months ago. Why wait until now?"
As she spoke, she touched her belly and sighed as if she was regretful, "It's a good thing I didn't act impulsively... Rhett, you must treat us well."
"Mm."
Kelsey, who was standing here at the moment, felt like an outsider, shamelessly listening to her husband's sweet conversation with another woman.
She had never seen Rhett like this before, nor had she ever seen him be so gentle and patient with any other woman.
Her heart felt like it had been stabbed with a hole, and only the sound of the wind blowing back and forth passed by, cold and painful.
Kelsey stared at the man in front of her with red eyes, waiting for an explanation, waiting for him to speak.
Rhett's gaze swept over her, pausing briefly before quickly withdrawing, devoid of any emotion.
"Let's go," he whispered to the woman next to him.
Elise shrugged her shoulders, still smiling, and glanced at Kelsey with inexplicable pity in her eyes.
Kelsey stood frozen in place, staring at their retreating figures, her eyes turning red with tears.
She should have confronted him, demanded an answer.
But her feet felt rooted to the spot, unable to move an inch.
Elise was already six months pregnant...
But they had only been married for six months!
Did Rhett have an affair with Elise during their marriage?
Did he hold Elise in his arms and kiss her, then come back to do the same to Kelsey?
Kelsey's body trembled at the thought, and she suddenly retched.
She quickly bent over, covering her mouth, and rushed to the bathroom.
The cold water splashed on her face, clearing her mind a little.
Looking at herself in the mirror, her plain and unremarkable face made her feel unattractive and easily forgotten.
Her heart grew colder and colder, and she let out a sigh with a self-deprecating smile.
It took her a while to recover.
When she turned around, she met a pair of deep, cold eyes.
Rhett had appeared at the bathroom door at some point, staring at her intently.
His tall figure blocked the light, and his handsome features were hidden in the shadows, making him look even more profound and elegant.
What a charming face.
Kelsey couldn't help but hold her breath.
Just six months of marriage had made her deeply attached to this man, and this face had a lot to do with it.
No matter from which angle she looked at him, he always stirred her heart.
But now, the dream had to come to an end.
"You…"
"Have you signed the papers?"
Both of them spoke almost at the same time, but their words were completely different.
Hearing Rhett's question, Kelsey's heart sank, and she lowered her head and said, "I'll move out as soon as possible."
"Okay." The man seemed to move a little, leaning against the door and looking down at her, "Raise your head."
Kelsey was stunned for a moment, not quite sure why he said that.
Rhett noticed her slow reaction, but he didn't feel impatient. Instead, he felt a strange sense of irritation.
He repeated himself, "Raise your head and look at me."
Kelsey lifted her head and looked at him, "Mr. Clark…"
"Here we go again," Rhett frowned, his tone colder than before. "Don't you have any questions for me?"
Kelsey's eyes flickered, and then she laughed self-deprecatingly. "Mr. Clark doesn't even know me, what could I possibly ask?"
She was using his own words to question him.
Rhett seemed surprised for a moment, but quickly regained his composure. He looked as if nothing had happened. "Don't be difficult, I don't like it."
Kelsey clenched her fists slowly, finally feeling a bit irritated. "If you don't like it, why did you marry me in the first place?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she suddenly felt nauseous and turned around to dry heave.
Rhett watched her intently, suddenly realizing something was wrong. His face turned pale.
