Kai's POV
I leaned back on my throne, the cold, cracked stone beneath me doing little to ease the foul mood brewing in my chest. My fingers tapped against the armrest, sharp and impatient. The courtyard was packed. Every fool in this cursed pack gathered here tonight at my order. The flames from the torches cast long shadows, and the air reeked of sweat, fear, and something else I couldn't quite place.
I smirked as I saw Fuel dragging Rain toward me. She looked like hell—hair a mess, blood splattered across her clothes. But as my gaze raked over her, my eyes narrowed.
No cuts. Not a single fucking scratch on her.
My wolf snarled in my head.
"They touched her," he growled, his voice a low, dangerous rumble.
"They hurt our mate."
I rolled my eyes. Embarrassing. Soft mutt.
"Calm the fuck down," I retorted to him. "Look at her. That's not her blood. She's fine."
