Rain

A few hours after Eric left my tent, I lay in bed, staring at the canvas ceiling above me, the soft rustle of the night wind brushing against the fabric. Sleep wasn't just elusive — it felt impossible.

My body ached for rest, but my mind was a chaotic mess of nerves and gnawing unease.

I kept tossing and turning, the sheets a tangled mess around my legs. Every time I closed my eyes, I felt it — this… pressure. Like the air itself had thickened, clinging to my skin, pressing against my chest.

Something was wrong.

Then suddenly, the tent flap burst open.

"Rain!" Lela gasped, stumbling inside, holding her chest like she'd run a mile. Her face was pale and full of panic.

"Lela? What's wrong?" I jumped up from my foam mat and rushed to her. "Are you okay? Did someone hurt you?" I grabbed her shoulders, heart racing.
