Chapter 21 - Chapter 21— The Heart's First Beat

Rainbase no longer whispered rebellion; it breathed devotion.

At the highest tower of the reclaimed fortress, Ravro D. Flare stood beneath the fractured moon, the broken light cascading across his cloak like a silent crown. Below him, his Court knelt—the first four pillars of his dominion. Mihawk bowed in silence, his great blade Yoru resting at his side, the number [1] stitched into his long coat. Beside him, Crocodile remained still, bearing the mark of [2] burned into his shoulder. Behind them, Nico Robin stood not in submission but in chosen belonging. Soon, the fourth—Velra—would return.

The air was thick with reverence, but something deeper stirred beneath the calm.

The System spoke.

**The Throne and the Orders**

The desert sun blazed mercilessly across Alabasta's broken streets. Beneath the sands, the smiles, and the desperate prayers, the kingdom was already falling. I stood atop the highest tower of Rainbase, the black banners of the Abyss unfurling slowly behind me. Velra stood to my right, Robin to my left, and before me—kneeling, broken, and awaiting orders—Crocodile.

The System chimed:

**[Current Mission: Alabasta Infiltration — Progress: 43%]**

**[Crocodile Assignment: Overlord of Alabasta (Pending)]**

I gazed down at him with cold finality. "You will rule this kingdom," I said. "Not as a thief. Not as a puppet. But as a throne awaiting its true king."

I let the abyssal mist curl from my fingertips, a thread of cold promise wrapping around the air. "And by the time I return—" I leaned in, letting my voice cut through the desert heat like a blade. "—you will have turned this land into a fortress of the Abyss. Or you will drown in its sands."

Crocodile bowed lower, the mark of [2] burning on his shoulder. "I understand, My King," he rasped.

The System chimed again:

**[Assignment Created: Crocodile — Governor of Abyss-Alabasta.]**

**[Countdown Until King's Return: 2 Campaign Windows.]**

Velra smiled faintly, quiet and satisfied. Robin said nothing—her gaze fixed on Crocodile, not with contempt, but with weighing insight. Her approval was silent, but I felt it settle across the balcony like coiled smoke.

She stepped forward as I turned to depart, her voice brushing close to my shoulder. "You trust him more than he trusts himself."

"No," I answered. "I trust the mark he now carries. The Abyss leaves no room for failure."

She tilted her head. "And what of me?"

I paused, then turned slightly to meet her gaze.

"You already belong."

Robin blinked once, and for the first time, her lips twitched at the corner—a smile so faint that it may have been imagined. She didn't follow. She simply watched.

**The Encounter — Princess of the Sands**

Before we departed Alabasta, I walked the streets one final time.

A king should know the soil he intends to own.

That was when I saw her.

A girl weaving through the market crowds, hidden beneath a traveler's cloak—but her presence was unmistakable. Her eyes were sharp, her heart heavy. She moved with the grace of someone pretending not to be noble, but instinct betrayed her.

Vivi.

Princess of Alabasta.

Daughter of a dying crown. Symbol of a kingdom still desperate enough to hope.

She brushed past me without realizing what she had crossed, but she flinched.

Because instinct—pure, primal instinct—whispered to her bones:

"This is not a man."

"This is inevitability."

I said nothing. I did not stop her. Not yet.

Because when her world shatters, she will seek something to save it.

And she will find me.

**System Mission — Giants of the Abyss**

As we returned to the ship, the System whispered again—not in data, but in hunger.

**[New Campaign Mission Activated!]**

**[Mission: Recruit the Giants of Little Garden.]**

**[Targets: Dorry, Brogy]**

**[Objective: Subjugate or Recruit as Abyss Soldiers]**

**[Reward: Establish Abyss Soldier Corps]**
