It was said that Nelxus Academy had two core level nine's, one a vampire and the other a fairy. Both were veterans of the war one hundred years ago.
They were both the directors of the board of education and barely ever made any public appearances.
Even most of the third-year students who had been at the Academy for two years now had no idea what they looked like.
So, it was a bit shocking to see both of them appearing together at the same place.
The second head of the board of directors was a fairy named Nero Mastin.
Unlike his partner, who appeared cold and mysterious while emanating an oppressive aura, Nero seemed to carry himself with elegance, and he had this warm aura that seemed to make everything he passed shine.
He was wearing s white suit with his long blonde hair neatly tied back.
His stunning blue eyes rested on Vesper and Axel for a while before slowly moving to Link.
It didn't take him long to figure out what was going on.
'Good thing I made it here in time.'
"What's going on?" He asked just after stopping in front of Link.
Link was practically staring daggers at him now but he pretended not to notice.
"These two were the only ones in the infirmary when that light show happened last night, I was just asking them a few questions." Link replied before turning to Vesper with a smile.
He sounded so polite, but in his mind, he had already killed everyone standing there about a million times.
"Oh, I see."
Nero had heard about what happened last night and he was aware that the vampires were desperate to get rid of what they thought was the most potent threat to their race.
No matter what, he wasn't going to let them have their way.
However, before he could say anything, Link suggested the one thing he was trying to avoid.
"I believe a matter this serious should be discussed in the hall, let the board make a decision." Link suggested.
"Is that necessary?" Nero retorted.
"Of course, this is a matter concerning the peace between two races, it needs to be properly discussed."
Before Nero could come up with a response, the old vampire was already walking away, gesturing to Vesper to follow him.
"I have to find another way," Nero said after letting out a sigh.
________ ________
The meeting hall for the board of directors was a place where only the worst offenders have ever been to have the board decide their fate.
To keep it short, this was a place where no student of Nelxus Academy ever wanted to be as the chance of walking out unscathed was very low.
Unfortunately, Vesper and Axel had both found themselves in that hall in their very first year.
The hall was a very huge one but was mostly empty with a glass roof which made it possible for light to find its way into the room.
The only thing worth nothing in the room was the platform up ahead.
On top of it were two highly furnished seats which she could tell belonged to both of the heads of the board of education, probably because they were occupying the seats at the moment, Nero on the right and Link on the left.
Beside their seats were four seats, each lined up horizontally; a total of eight seats were currently occupied by the other members of the board.
While the two heads of the board were both core level nine's, the other members were at least core level eight's.
Looking at all those powerful people, Vesper instantly regretted walking into that room. If they decided to take any action against Axel there, she wouldn't be able to do anything.
The two were currently the centre of attention as everyone up there was staring at them. Link had his gaze fixated on Axel particularly.
"From what I understand, you can't see anything at the moment, right?" He asked.
Aware that he was speaking to him, Axel immediately responded with a nod.
"And how did that happen?"
"I don't know." The young fairy shook his head. "I was like this when I woke up."
"Oh." Link raised his brow at that answer. "So you had no idea of what happened last night?"
"What happened last night?" Axel responded, feigning ignorance.
Digging his fingers into his left palm, the old vampire smiled before switching his gaze to Vesper.
"I was inside the infirmary, I couldn't see what was going on outside." She answered resolutely.
"But the light came from the infirmary. You didn't see where it came from?"
Vesper wasn't too quick to answer that and stared at the old vampire as if trying to decipher his expression. After a while, she shook her head in response.
Getting that response, the old vampire couldn't help but chuckle.
"Both of you were at the infirmary, and yet none of you has any idea what happened." His voice was calm, but in his mind, he was already boiling. "Fine, let's take a little test then."
"Test?"
Before Vesper could figure out what was going on, her whole body was suddenly trapped by a heap of earth, trapping her limbs particularly. No matter how she shook, the thing just wouldn't budge.
That was expected from the earth ability of a core level nine vampire. To make matters worse, her lightning ability was weak to earth so she couldn't do anything with that.
"Whether or not you had anything to do with what happened last night, we'll find out at this very moment." The vampire had a stern expression on his face as he lifted his glowing right hand. "A fairy with the divine fairy's blessing wouldn't die from this."
"Link!"
Nero sprang up from his seat at that moment but Link had already released the blood slash toward a powerless Axel.
"No!!" Vesper screamed.
The attack already in front of Axel, it looked like no one would be able to save him and seeing that, Link's face widened with a smirk.
What happened next left everyone in shock. Just as the blood slash was about to hit him, Axel quickly took two steps backwards.
A bubble quickly formed under his right foot at that moment and the moment it burst, he was thrust into the air, avoiding the blood slash with a neat backflip.
A stream of water slowly circled his body as he slowly dropped to the ground.
The smirk on Link's face was instantly replaced by a grim expression.
"I see you're quite nimble even though you're blind."
He quickly raised his hand to release another blood slash, but before he could, Nero caught him by his hand.
"What are you doing?" He snapped.
"I should be the one asking that question?" The fairy retorted. He wasn't hiding the fact that he was angry now.
"What do you mean?"
Equally angry, Link shook his hand off his.
"Have you forgotten about the pact of peace? It clearly states that as long as both races live in peace, the fairy goddess would never return." His usual calm tone was completely gone now. "But what is this?" He said, pointing at Axel.
"Yes, he might have been in the infirmary that night but there's still no proof that the light came from him." Nero retorted.
"He was the only fairy in the building, who else could it have been but him?" Link was livid.
At that moment a voice rang out from the door.
"You seem to be too sure that my student is the one you're looking for, Lord Link."
Everyone quickly turned their attention to the area to see Claire standing there, a golden orb in her hand.
At the sight of her, Vesper breathed a sigh of relief.
'Finally.'
