Chapter 3 - Chp. 3: Emma

The world was always too loud. Too chaotic. Too unpredictable.

I had spent years learning how to tune it out. How to ignore the conversations I didn't care about, the laughter that never included me, the memories of the past I'd rather forget. It was easier to exist in silence than to let anyone think they could pull me into their own world.

… And yet here I am, entertaining a delusional kid sitting on my bench. He just came out of nowhere when I was walking down my usual street, at my usual time to sit on my usual bench and have my usual nap while listening to my usual calming whale sounds.

He also told me something about being a "Demon lord", which is absolutely unbelievable. And he also hogged my bench, forcing me to sit next to him. He kept on yapping about this and that— I couldn't really hear him. Until he leaned closer to my ear and started repeatedly saying the same thing. I had enough of it and started a conversation with him. At least it's better to give in than to keep arguing for no reason.

He kept on talking and I kept on responding until I had enough of it. I was about to leave without saying anything until he said,

"You won't even say 'see you tomorrow'?"

I stopped there to think for a second, "Is he serious?", "Why would I do something like that", "It's not like I know him or something". My hands twitched, as I was just about to wave my hand a little, I stopped myself, it's pointless anyways, not like he'd actually be there the next day anyways. Instead I mutter a little,

"...Goodbye"

Before leaving.

I head back to my house.

"...I'm back…"

Silence, as always. My uncle had left a sticky note next to a bowl of oatmeal.

"This is your breakfast, eat it, or just waste it like the rest of the food I give you."

I push over the food he gives me and head over to the local convenience store to buy something to eat.

"Oh hey, Emma! Back here to buy some instant cup noodles again?"

The convenience store lady greets. I honestly don't know why she always tries to talk to me.

"...Yeah"

"Here, I picked them out for you this time so you won't have to get it yourself!"

She says.

"Thanks…"

She talks as she scans my cup noodles

"So how are things with your uncle, rough right?"

"It's fine"

I quickly leave immediately after I finish paying, I can't stand her. She always goes too deep into my emotions... And always tries to "Help" everyone...
