As Casey stepped into the pack house, Lily's eyes widened with wonder. Her blonde pigtails bounced with each step as she clung to her mother's hand. "Wow! Wow!" she squealed, taking in the grand foyer and sprawling gardens.
One of the head maids greeted them with a warm smile. "Hello, Casey! And hello, little one!" She knelt to Lily's level, admiring the child's sparkly dress. "You're a bundle of energy, aren't you?"
Casey chuckled, exchanging a glance with Mrs. Jenkins. "I was wondering where the young ones are gathered. Could you show me?"
The woman's expression turned quizzical. "Well, they're usually in the nursery or playing in the east wing… But, Casey, you do know the workers and maids especially are not supposed to have their kids here…?"
Casey's smile wavered as she attempted to apologize to the woman "I….. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cause any trouble… I just… uh…" Her voice trailed off, her eyes darting around nervously.
