Chapter 35 - Backup On The Way?

Happy! Happy! Happy!

-)^π^(-

Today, just like the last few days, people have been waking up with large grins.

Oh my Buddha!

Who knew smiling so much could cause their cheeks to swell in pain?

Oops… they didn't care.

With money, all frowns can turn into smiles in under a millisecond.

Oh, you fell down? Smile.

What? You were bitten by a whirl dog? Smile.

Hey, you said your son's city girlfriend mocked and dumped him? Smile.

With money, everything becomes a breeze.

"Good Morning neighbor."

"Why, good morning to you too."

"Good Morning…"

"Good morning…"

Everyone started calling their neighbors merrily. It was odd to say that they knew each other's names, yet, they subconsciously acted like the rich people they saw in Movies.

"Well, A' how-do-you-do to you too."

"-___-"

Gort was flabbergasted by the people's changes.

'No wonder people say No eh is the route of all evil. If I offer 1 million in exchange for 100 slaps, I'm sure they'll all jump on that offer.'

What about dignity? What about pride?

Gort swayed like a leaf to the new company side. And of course, the children were still walking with him, fanning and heading him in all directions.

The ones who were deeply committed to this 'job' the most were Tito and Finx… Gort swore that his face would subconsciously get pale whenever he saw the two around. He found himself darting into bushes just to avoid the duo.

'No matter what, I must get them jobs in the company, or start Project School fast!' Gort inwardly concluded.

"Brother Gort, if you need anything, just say the word and it'll be done."

"..."

No, no, stop messing around. He doesn't—No comment

Gort was happy to reach the new location. It was completed 2 days ago and inspected almost immediately.

With the end of the world fast approaching, there was no time to waste. Now, the GF WordTech -Communications headquarters is ready to hire and open.

Several villagers were hired just as promised, but Gort knew he needed more intellectual minds to lead and supervise them all.

After all, he will be busy doing other things, and won't have the time to personally follow up on everything. That's why he was going to a special group of retired old men and their wives.

After giving one last look of the new company site, Gort headed to inspect the newly built residences close to the company too. He had ordered for 10 townhouses to be made, as well as a massive 3 story apartment complex.

What the apartment complex lacked in length, it would make up for it in width.

Gort didn't want any skyscrapers.

For now, these residential areas will belong to the workers hired. Their rent and utilities would get deducted from their monthly pay once hired.

Still, the take home money left over will be far better than what any company world wide will be willing to pay. Gort had to admit that despite money being 'the route of all evil,' it could gain absolute loyalty from workers if their pay was incredibly high.

What did Gort care?

In a few months, the world might end as they know it. And whether others understand it or not, his companies will become the richest in human existence.

The whole world will depend on him.

Everyone .. every monkey .. every dog… every human… They'll need his companies to thrive. So do you know how much money he'll be getting in the end?

Additionally, they needed a truly high salary if they were going to attract smart minds to assist in his projects.

Gort chuckled when thinking of the email and phone call he received several days ago.

It seems the Big 3 were all vying to take him in. Of course he turned them down, but he knew that despite their silence, they must be planning something sinister in the dark.

'It's best not to let anyone know for now,' Gort inwardly advised.

He didn't want anyone to worry or live on edge. He had long taken safety within the village into consideration. That's why he also agreed to meetup with several military personnel who wanted to see him.

It seems they were very familiar with Payne Hanberg, one of the buyers.

Gort looked at his watch, knowing he had had to pick up the pace of he was going to be on time for his next appointment.

…

—Several hours later—

Bahahahaha~

A heavy stream of laughter filled a luxurious space.

There were expensive vases and outfits scattered about the place. One look and anyone could tell that the owner of this mansion was living a life far above ordinary means.

In the space were 4 mature men in one corner, and their wives in another corner, chatting over some tea… And among the 4 men, was a very young man who didn't quite fit with the scene.

"Hubby, didn't I say it? You are very addicted to abuse."

"Pfft~... Bahahahaha~... Old Larkh, your wife has said what we've all been thinking."

Old Larkh shook his head addictively. Lost? No way! Another match! This time, I swear I'll show you my full might?"

"So what was all that before if you didn't give it your all?"

"A warm up." The stubborn Old Larkh refused to admit defeat.

Several old men slapped Larkh's back playfully. "Forget it, Old Larkh. Since we've known the brat, none of us has ever won against him."

Sigh—

The young will indeed surpass the old.

How they met Gort was a very, very, very long story. However, they were glad they met such a promising youngster. His intelligence was far above what they all tested.

He was like a sponge, absorbing everything they taught. All 4 of them fight to take him in as a disciple, leaving Gort now having 4 teachers/master's.

Whether it's a friendly game of Go, or solving mathematical theories and other innovative matters, Gort always seemed to have the answer.

Without a doubt, he will definitely go places. So one can understand their shock when he one day called them, telling them he had suddenly dropped out of school.

No explanation, no nothing — was this how geniuses nowadays behaved?
