The tires screeched loudly, awakening Mia from her deep thought. She watched her boss step out of the car like the boss he was before opening her side of the door.
At least, he didn't forget to be a gentleman, a fake gentleman, she glared at his shoes instead of him, she could not afford him seeing her glare at him.
"Thank you." She croaked with her gaze to the ground.
Rey looked at her bowed head and closed his eyes for a nano second to contain his spilling emotion. No, it was just pity, love didn't exist and she was way lower than his class to be a real date.
In accessing her again, he noticed her ringless finger. Grabbing her hand instantly and probably scaring the shit out of her because she looked up at him with shaky eyes, he glared at her finger.
"Where is your ring?" His voice was harsh, his tone was brash, his eyes were squinted as if ready to kill if given the chance.
Mia looked up at him and deep inside her, she smiled, riling him up would make up a little for his stupid act. She kept quiet, only looking up at him as if daring him to do his worst.
"Where is your ring!" He placed his hand on her shoulders and shook her violently.
Her stomach churned and her eyes blinked quickly at the dizziness that hit her.
"Is everything alright Sire, my Lady?" It was Gary's concerned voice.
"Everything is fine Gary, give us some space." Rey's voice softened but it still contained a little amount of venom, shooing Gary away and stopping him from butting in like he had intended to.
"Now bitch, if you don't produce that ring this instant, I swear down…"
"I don't have to wear it every single time, Sir." Mia didn't want to hear what he had to say. His threat might end up being her undoing.
The word 'bitch' reeled in her head and she imagined herself dressed like the blondes he brought back home to fuck. A shudder passed through her, it was as if a box of trapped in memories got unlocked, how could she have forgotten so fast about his whorish attitude.
Was she that stupid to let a kiss from him lock away his original nature? She got disgusted at herself. How many lips had his lips kissed so far?
'Man whore.' She insulted him in her head and felt the satisfaction of doing so.
"Yes, you have to." He took a step closer to her and she took two steps back.
"You have to wear it often so you get used to it." His slow steps towards her and his predatory look made her breath hinge.
"Now Mia, where is the ring?" He asked again, this time, he took his time enunciating every word, his eyes got hooded and he did not stop getting closer to her.
She felt frightened for her life, her lids twitched and she turned back to see what was in the way. She decided it was bad to step backwards towards the direction of her room in the servant quarters.
"You want to play this game, huh?" Rey asked, reading meaning into her action.
"You'd have to get fucked by a hundred men and paid to raise half the money used to purchase that ring and I am not sure you are up for it."
She felt insulted. She felt looked down on and she sniffled, immediately wiping her ears dry.
Putting her hand into her clutch, she brought out the ring and held it above her head towards him, her eyes shut tightly and he came to a stop.
"Better." He breathed and took the ring from her.
"Open your eyes." It was an order and she could not resist.
She looked into his piercing grey eyes and a shaky sigh escaped her lips. His eyes were nothing like his voice a few minutes ago, it was gentle and it regarded her in the same manner.
This was top emotional manipulation and Mia thought better than to fall for it. Taking hand into his as gently as ever, he gently stroked her fingers before slipping the ring back into its rightful place.
"There." He said.
"That's where it should be." He stared at her and she held his gaze.
'A waste of beauty.' She thought forcefully in her head, her eyes were reddened as she looked at him.
"Get used to it." This time, his voice hardened itself and she almost laughed out loud in derision.
She would not give him the satisfaction of winning. It was a decision she decided to cement.
Rey looked at Mia and felt the need to hold her close, envelope her in his arms and assure her that this wasn't his doing. He wanted to explain to her that he had to do this because he could not avoid it.
He wanted to wipe the tears away from her eyes and tell her it was better to comply than to fight it and get hurt.
He wanted to tell her that she made him feel something he had decided not to feel in a long time and tell her the reason behind his decision.
The softening of his voice was how he really wanted to be around her but she wasn't making it easy. This was a game she signed up for.
"Leave." Rey's hardening voice ordered.
He watched her bow formally, like he was a god or a demigod. It irked him.
"Stop!" He commended and she stopped in her steps.
"Look at me." That too was a command and she did, she turned towards him slowly, very slowly that he thought she was slowed by a mechanism of some sort.
She looked at him, she looked straight into his eyes and his head thudded at how cold they had gone back to be.
"Don't do it again." He rasped, expecting her to say something, or ask a question but she didn't. She only looked at him like she was commanded to look and do nothing more.
"Don't bow again."
"Yes Sir." Came her mechanical response.
His phone beeps again before ringing. Mia watches him look at the screen of his phone and a subtle frown splay across his brow.
He raised his hand and waved her away and without much trouble, she turned and walked away briskly towards her room. She craved the comfort of her room in solitude.
"Goddamnit! Arrrgh!" He cursed out loud..
She looked back unconsciously to see him punch the air really hard and as if knowing she was staring at him, he turned and glared back at her really hard.
This time, she frowned wondering what wrong she did again before scurrying off.
