Chapter 31 - Two Can Play The Game

"You are not different from them." Rey's eyes got red and Mia's heart rate spiked at the hate in his voice.

"I do not understand what you mean Sir…I mean, Rey." She was beginning to stutter and her grip on the glass shook.

He held her gaze for longer than usual and she didn't know how to break it or where to look if she could end up breaking his intense gaze on her. When his eyes stretched to look at something behind her, she silently heaved in relief but something wasn't right, he was suddenly smiling at her again.

She was going to go crazy and about to go into deep thought about why he would suddenly switch moods.

"Ma'am." She had a tap on her left shoulder and her heart jumped to her throat, turning with immediate speed, she was met with the smiley face of a chef. Not that she said she was a chef, her outfit did.

Before Mia could respond, the chef presented a rose flower to her. She blinked in confusion, looked at the expectant eyes of the chef before looking back to Rey who had his hand folded across his chest as he completely relaxed on the backrest to have a full observation of her.

"Go on, take it." He urged with a sweet smile. A smile that made her forget they were just about to start a world war a few minutes ago.

Looking back at the chef, she smiled back, took the flower and was about to mutter a thank you when the chef's smile got even brighter.

"I wish you a happy married life Mia." She wished and walked off, leaving Mia staring at her receding back with gaping mouth.

"At least, that is a realistic expression." Rey's voice snapped her out of it.

Turning abruptly to look at him she blinked and was at loss for words. This was way out of her expectation.

"Is this a proposal?" She asked him, stunned.

"Did I say it was?" Rey whose smile had died off his face asked back.

Mia looked at him and convinced herself to believe he had bipolar disorder, he was way too good with his switch of mood that it messed up her mind.

"So you want your money huh?" Rey asked her and she shifted in her seat only to feel a sharp prick on her pinky finger.

"Ouch!"

"Be careful of the thorns Babe." He cooed, making her snap her head up to glare at him.

'Babe?' He had one of his killer smiles and instinctively, she looked towards her left to see a shy young man dressed casually presenting two stems of roses to her.

'Two can play the game.' She mused in her head and accepted the roses without second thoughts while making sure to give him a very bright smile and an extremely soothing thank you.

"Is that how to get men into your web?" He asked, this time she heard the clinking of cutlery against the plate. She didn't look at him to avoid saying something that would end up regretting, something that might cost her job.

"Here." He stretched out a spoon full of food to her and again, she knew someone was close.

Smiling provocatively at him, she opened her mouth slowly before wrapping her lips around his outstretched cutlery, she was mad as hell and left with no choice.

Rey caught himself catching his breath. The romantic setting wasn't helping him out a bit, he cursed in his mind and glared at her.

Mia felt a tug at the hem of her short gown. Looking at the direction it came from, it was a pair of lads, a boy and a girl respectively, both carefully holding three stems in his hands.

How dare he accuse her of sleeping around? She bit her lips and her mood turned 360 degree different from what it was earlier. Even if she was mad, she would never transfer it to the two cute innocent children blinking up at her with red cheeks.

They said their wishes like the others, only this time they stuttered and giggled and blushed, they were so cute that she could hold a grudge at Rey any longer. Stealing a side glance at him, she found him smiling at them.

After they left, it became a rollercoaster of positive and negative emotion with her having to switch back and forth till she had 99 roses in her grasp. Still expecting another, she had her eyes looking everywhere while expecting Rey to act up.

"Here." He called back her attention to him in a frosty voice.

Looking at her arrogant boss, she saw him stretch out a rose to her and her hand stretched itself out to get it before she could think. It became a norm.

She still had her eyes on him expecting him to say something but he only tipped his head forward, signaling her to look back and she did to see the first chef behind her again, still with a bright smile but this time, she had a vase with her.

She didn't know why she was disappointed, neither did she know what her expectation actually was but she dutifully handed the roses back to the chef and she arranged them in the delicate looking vase.

Just when she had her eyes back on Rey, a cake is placed on the table and she is left to wonder where it had come from. She looked around but could only hear scurrying feet.

Looking at the cake placed in front of her, the glaring question of "Will you marry me?" on the cake had her heart still before beating wildly in her chest.

She had had an inkling that this was a marriage proposal, but it wasn't solid till this moment. Looking at the cake, she had a mixture of joy and sadness. She got to experience the bliss of being proposed to though it was unreal and fake and the fakeness of it stirred up sadness in her and a tinge of anger.

She looked at Rey and found him staring back at her, he was studying her facial expression.

"Isn't it the time where you get emotional?" He asked haughtily.

She parted her lips but again, she withheld herself from talking, the venom at the tip of her voice would wreck a lot of damage she wasn't ready to face after now.

"Go on, talk." Rey squinted at her, urging her to talk but she just stared at him and shook her head.

"Do you…" He clenched his teeth and made a fist of his hand on the table, Mia bent forward with an expectant gaze.

Looking pointedly at her, he opened his mouth again…"Do you want to call it quits?" He finally dropped it and Mia had to close her eyes to regain herself.

"Do you want to quit? Do you want us to stop?" He asked again.

"Are you really serious about this sir?" She wanted to ask him but when he stared at her in a business like manner, she knew he was dead serious.
