Chapter 23 - Chapter 23

Episode 23: The Secret Mission

As the moonlight bathed the academy grounds, Zhai slipped into Tanji's room, his small figure casting a long shadow across the floor. His fiery eyes gleamed with curiosity and determination.

"Master," Zhai began, his voice low but insistent. "We're here for the red crystal, right? So why not take it now? You're powerful enough to handle anything that comes in the way."

Tanji leaned back in his chair, a calm and enigmatic smile playing on his lips. "Power alone isn't always the solution, Zhai. Patience is a weapon, too. If we act too soon, we'll draw unnecessary attention."

Zhai frowned, his youthful eagerness brimming over. "But Master, I want to see the crystal! Everyone talks about its beauty and power. Just once... please?"

Tanji considered for a moment, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the armrest. Finally, he nodded. "Fine. But only for a glimpse. Remember, Zhai, curiosity can be both a gift and a curse. Don't forget why we're truly here."

Zhai's face lit up with excitement. "Thank you, Master! I promise, I'll be careful!"

The two figures moved silently through the academy, their steps as light as whispers. Tanji led the way, his movements precise and deliberate. Zhai followed closely, his heart pounding with anticipation.

They reached the chamber where the red crystal was kept. It was heavily guarded by layers of protective spells, and its faint, crimson glow seeped through the cracks of the sealed door.

Tanji extended his hand, and a wave of energy rippled through the air. The intricate magical seals began to unravel, one by one, like threads being pulled from a tapestry.

The door creaked open, revealing the crystal in all its glory. It floated in the center of the chamber, pulsating with an otherworldly light. Its brilliance was almost blinding, casting long shadows across the walls.

Zhai's eyes widened in awe. "It's... it's even more beautiful than I imagined," he whispered, stepping closer.

"Careful," Tanji warned, his tone sharp. "The crystal's power is unstable. Even a slight disturbance could trigger chaos."

Zhai hesitated, his hand reaching out instinctively before pulling back. "I can feel its energy, Master. It's overwhelming."

Tanji's gaze softened slightly as he observed Zhai's wonder. "The crystal is a fragment of something far greater. Its power is both a blessing and a curse. Never forget that."

Zhai nodded, his excitement tempered by a newfound respect for the artifact. "I understand, Master. But... how are we going to take it? The academy won't just let us walk away with it."

A sly smile curved Tanji's lips. "That's a question for another time, Zhai. For now, we observe and wait. The right moment will come."

As they left the chamber, the seals reformed behind them, concealing the crystal once more. Zhai's mind buzzed with thoughts and plans, while Tanji remained silent, his expression unreadable.

The red crystal was within their grasp—but the game

they were playing was far from over.
