"The abbot... is dead..."
The monks stirred uneasily among themselves. In just a moment, they seemed to foresee their own fate.
They continued chanting the sutras.
But to their horror, they soon realized—
Their bodies no longer obeyed their spirits. They couldn't even open their mouths, let alone move their eyes.
The night was pitch-black, with a bright full moon cloaking the Mountain village in a silver veil.
In the open square, torch flames blazed high.
The Uchiha slowly regained their clarity. Confused and dazed, they looked at the wooden cabin, and at the figure of Uchiha Yu standing before them.
A mixture of shock and joy filled their hearts!
Tamao's pupils were unfocused as he weakly spoke:
"Big bro… can you make sure that family of three doesn't die here? That man genuinely cared for us.
He gave us his best food…
He's already pitiful enough.
And the baby… sure, he's a bit noisy, but actually kinda cute."
Tamao himself was covered in wide wounds caused by Wind Release chakra.
Even after enduring the torture of the chanting, the first thing he did upon waking… was to plead with Yu—for someone else.
"Alright."
"Then… big bro, when you're killing those bald freaks, can you slash a few more times for me? I'm not afraid of going to hell for killing monks—count yours on me too!"
"..." Yu gave Tamao a sidelong glance and replied coolly, "Just focus on your treatment."
"Okay." Tamayo shut his mouth.
"..."
Nono hadn't recovered yet. She instinctively felt that this pair of brothers had a strangely amusing way of talking.
After swallowing a military ration pill, she crouched beside Tamayo and spread her hand to begin medical ninjutsu.
"How long will it take?" Yu asked.
"About eighteen minutes."
Nono calculated absently. As she glanced back at the wooden house and saw the corpses scattered across the floor, her eyes widened—shocked, but also… strangely relieved.
After all, those were four of Konoha's top jōnin.
Plus the famed abbot of the Fire Temple.
All... dead.
Behind her round glasses, Nono's beautiful eyes stared fixedly at the wooden house without blinking.
This proved she'd made the right gamble—she was lucky to have agreed to help the Uchiha.
Otherwise, she would've been just another corpse among them.
The Uchiha all turned their eyes toward Uchiha Yu, his white robe stained with blood. One by one, they exhaled in relief.
When they glanced at the cabin, their expressions mirrored Nono's—but they recovered quickly.
After all, their captain Yu was the Uchiha who had dared—and succeeded—to assassinate Danzo!
Killing a few Konoha jōnin?
That was nothing!
"Those two guys with the sashes embroidered with the Fire Country crest… they must've been part of the Twelve Guardian Ninja, right?"
"Yeah. And that monk was the abbot of the Fire Temple. As for the bearded jōnin leading the ambush—that's the son of the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen."
"..."
Two Uchiha supported each other to their feet and chatted idly. But when the identities of the slain Konoha ninja were mentioned, their tone grew somber.
Izumi, Mikoto, and Minami also came back to their senses, their expressions complicated as they looked at Yu's back.
This man… actually killed the Hokage's son.
Fire Temple had mobilized in full force.
The Uchiha had all thought they were facing their end—
But once again, it was Captain Yu who saved them.
Izumi's beautiful dark eyes sparkled with admiration for Yu, now even deeper than before.
Mikoto's gaze flickered with subtle, swirling thoughts—there one moment, gone the next.
The Uchiha's casual talk drifted into Nono's ears, making her hands tremble slightly as she cast her medical ninjutsu.
"The Third Hokage's… son?"
She turned again to look at the wooden house.
Her eyes landed on Asuma's body.
And to her horror—he did resemble the Third Hokage.
"The Hokage's son is dead…" Nonoyu's pupils trembled violently. A tidal wave of panic crashed through her mind. Her body froze up completely.
What did this mean?
Nono understood perfectly.
The Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, would fly into a rage and investigate the truth of what happened tonight with ruthless determination.
And if anyone found out—
That she, Nono, had been involved in this incident… she might never be able to return to Konoha.
Not everyone knew Asuma was the biological son of the Third Hokage.
While tangled in these thoughts, her hands didn't stop performing medical ninjutsu.
She looked anxiously toward Yu, only to see the young man striding toward the monks like nothing had happened—as if none of it concerned him.
The Uchiha, their strength returning, calmly regrouped around Tamao in an orderly formation.
Ahead, at the front of the clearing—
Along the jagged mountain path—
Yu stared indifferently at the seated monks, preparing to take action… but suddenly, he sensed something.
Their spirits were breaking free from his control.
In the moonlight—
A monk's expression twisted unnaturally. Then, with a sickening sound, his neck exploded open, and a pale, blood-stained head wriggled out from beneath his skin at an impossible angle.
Its hair was a sickly greenish hue, the face nondescript, with dead, ashen eyes like a corpse.
It locked eyes with the approaching Yu, grinning eerily from ear to ear.
Pop—pop—pop—
All across the monks of the Temple of Fire, similar scenes unfolded. The sickening sound echoed like watermelons being crushed.
Red and white matter splattered to the ground.
The stench of blood and rot thickened the air.
"Aaaargh—!!"
The monks, still under the Yasakani's spiritual grip, let out hoarse cries of agony as something inside them began to awaken—
Some parasitic entity erupting within their bodies.
"What the hell is that?!"
"How can something like this even exist in the world?!"
The Uchiha stared in horror, their scalps prickling, bodies trembling. Gripping their ninja blades tightly, they watched this nightmare unfold, the stench making their skin crawl.
Even Nono froze, stunned where she stood.
This kind of terror—she had never seen anything like it in the entire shinobi world.
"White Zetsu…"
Yu's eyes narrowed.
In his sensory field, those White Zetsu were now fully awakening inside the monks, greedily devouring their chakra.
These monks had been infected long ago—during their journey up the mountain, they'd been seeded by Tobi with the spores of the Zetsu technique, turning them into living incubators.
"Let's ease your suffering… go in peace."
Yu's Mangekyō spun to life.
He forcefully manipulated the remaining chakra in the monks' bodies that hadn't yet been consumed by the White Zetsu.
Boom—
Dull thuds echoed from the monks' chests as they collapsed where they sat—passing into death painlessly, spared the monstrous torment that awaited.
And thus—
The Fire Temple—
Was no more.
Some of the monks completed their incubation process before reincarnation. Depending on the chakra reserves they had in life, one—or sometimes two or three—White Zetsu would be born from each body.
"Delicious chakra!"
"It's Uchiha!"
"Kill them all and savor that tempting chakra!!"
The moment they landed, the White Zetsu howled madly, revealing their greed and hunger. Their naked, sexless bodies bolted toward Yu at full speed!
They had no fear of death.
Far away—
On a tree branch—
Obito, masked, observed the scene coldly. Beneath his mask, his twisted face curled into a smirk.
He was eager to see how many waves of White Zetsu Uchiha Yu could survive.
No matter how powerful Yu's Mangekyō was, eventually his Yin Release chakra would be depleted.
And that—
Would be the perfect moment to strike.
---
In front of the wooden cabin—
"Protect Captain Yu!!"
Uchiha Minami roared, drawing his ninja blade and activating his three-tomoe Sharingan. With the other Uchiha around him, he fearlessly charged into the horde of a hundred White Zetsu.
There were only eleven Uchiha in total.
This batch of White Zetsu outnumbered the monks from the Temple of Fire—and had drained them of enormous chakra reserves.
They were monsters fused with monk hosts!
As soon as the first wave of Uchiha clashed with them, they were quickly overwhelmed by the swarm and fell into a severe disadvantage—each facing multiple enemies alone.
---
Near Nono and Tamao—
Izumi also drew her ninja blade.
Suddenly—
She felt a gentle touch on the back of her hand. Looking down, she saw that Mikoto had taken her hand.
Mikoto's expression was calm, her three-tomoe Sharingan glowing in her eyes. She took the blade from Izumi and said firmly:
"Someone needs to stay and guard here. Leave the front lines to me."
Before Izumi could protest, Mikoto clenched her jaw and shed all traces of noble poise. Like a streak of black, she dashed past Yu into the heat of battle—her face cold and elegant.
A flash of steel—
One White Zetsu's head flew off!
Before she became a housewife, Mikoto had been a formidable Uchiha warrior with a fully awakened Sharingan.
Yu caught the look on her emotionless face—and within it, he saw the resolve to die.
He turned toward the still-shaken Nono and said calmly:
"Just keep focusing on healing."
Nono nodded softly, refocusing on treating Tamao. She could feel the presence of death radiating from those white monsters.
If she wanted to survive the night—
She'd have to rely on the Uchiha.
And so, she chose once again to place her trust in this powerful young man who made her feel truly safe.
---
Yu's Mangekyō shifted left and right, locking onto the White Zetsu swarming in from all directions.
Each of them seemed to be overflowing with an endless surge of power—rampaging across the clearing, charging at their prey with wild savagery.
Yu stood tall.
His broken ninja blade stabbed into the ground.
Then—he raised his right hand and grasped the air.
Space shimmered like rippling water—
A pitch-black longsword materialized in his hand.
The black blade melded with the night itself—cold, silent, and so dark it seemed to swallow the moonlight.
Under the moon's silver glow—
The Dark Moon gleamed without a single trace of light.
