Chapter 37 - Side Story: The Haunted Academy Mystery

---

Part 1: Rumors Begin

Star Academy was never quiet at night, but lately… things had gotten weird.

Lights flickering in empty halls.

Whispers echoing through the dorms.

Books flying off shelves by themselves.

And most disturbingly — the cafeteria's pudding kept disappearing.

The final straw came when a group of first-years ran screaming into the staff room, yelling, "GHOST! GHOST IN THE LIBRARY!!"

Naturally, the Headmaster called in his most reliable students.

Yujin, Sylvia, Kain, and Mira.

"Let me get this straight," Yujin muttered, reading the assignment scroll, "you want us to investigate a haunted school?"

Sylvia adjusted her glasses, smirking. "Ghost-hunting. I like it."

Mira clapped her hands. "Awww, it sounds fun! I've always wanted to meet a ghost!"

Kain crossed his arms. "If it's a prank, I'm cutting someone's allowance."

Part 2: Midnight Patrol

That night, the four patrolled the academy halls.

Yujin carried a lantern, trying to look serious.

Sylvia had a scanner, waving it dramatically.

Mira had a homemade "ghost charm" she insisted would protect them.

And Kain… was just grumpy.

"Why am I here," Kain grumbled as a cold breeze blew past.

"Because you're big and scary and ghosts won't mess with you," Yujin said cheerfully.

Suddenly, a locker door SLAMMED shut by itself.

Sylvia yelped. "Whoa—okay, okay, that's not wind."

Mira peeked behind a pillar. "Maybe they just want to play?"

"Play dead, maybe," Kain muttered.

Part 3: The First Encounter

They reached the old library.

The moment they stepped inside, the temperature dropped.

Books floated off the shelves, pages fluttering as if caught in an invisible storm.

A cold, whispering voice filled the air:

"Leeeaave… thissss plaaaace…"

Mira squeaked, hiding behind Kain.

Sylvia's scanner beeped wildly.

Yujin calmly raised his gun. "Alright, fun's over."

Suddenly, the ghost appeared — a pale figure in a tattered academy uniform.

Kain charged without hesitation.

His sword passed straight through it.

"—What?!"

The ghost giggled, vanishing into the shelves.

Sylvia sighed. "Kain, it's a ghost. You can't just stab it."

"I can try."

---

Part 4: Gathering Clues

They split up to investigate.

Yujin and Sylvia examined the archives.

Sylvia found old records: a student named Lira had vanished 50 years ago during a magical experiment gone wrong. Her spirit was said to haunt the academy.

Yujin glanced at a flickering light. "Looks like she's still around."

Mira and Kain checked the gym.

Mira tried talking to the ghost. "Hi! We're friends!"

A basketball shot itself across the room, hitting Kain in the back of the head.

"…She's not friendly," Kain deadpanned.

Mira giggled. "Maybe she likes sports!"

Kain rubbed his head. "If she throws another, I'm throwing you."

Part 5: Things Escalate

By 2 a.m., the haunting got worse.

Classroom desks flew in circles.

Hallway paintings wept black liquid.

And worst of all… the pudding supply in the cafeteria exploded.

Sylvia groaned. "She's growing stronger."

Yujin frowned. "We need to end this before sunrise."

Mira gently touched a wall, her fingers glowing faintly. "She's lonely."

Kain raised an eyebrow. "Lonely?"

"She's sad. She just wants someone to notice her."

The ghost flickered into view again, whispering:

"Help… me…"

Yujin's eyes narrowed. "Then let's help her."

---

Part 6: The Confrontation

They gathered in the main hall, setting up a ritual to free the spirit.

Yujin and Kain drew the containment circle.

Sylvia calibrated the spell.

Mira quietly sang a lullaby, the same one she heard a little girl humming in the hall.

The ghost appeared — but this time, not alone.

Dozens of shadowy figures rose from the floor, shrieking.

"WELL, THAT ESCALATED!" Sylvia yelled.

Kain leaped forward, slashing through the shadows.

Yujin fired precise energy blasts.

Mira threw glowing charms.

Sylvia unleashed sonic disruptors.

But the ghost in the center just wept.

"Please… help…"

---

Part 7: The Truth

In a flash of insight, Yujin yelled, "They're feeding on her! The shadows are the problem — not the ghost!"

Kain dove toward the center, cutting through the dark figures.

Mira reached the girl, kneeling. "Hey… hey, it's okay…"

Sylvia activated the release spell.

The circle glowed, lifting the dark energy away.

For a moment, everything froze.

The ghost opened her eyes, no longer twisted with sorrow.

"…Thank you…"

With a soft, glowing smile, she faded — the academy suddenly peaceful.

---

Part 8: Morning After

The next morning, the Headmaster arrived.

"So," he asked, "how did the investigation go?"

Yujin, bags under his eyes, deadpanned, "We saved the school."

Sylvia proudly presented her data. "Complete exorcism, restored records, no more hauntings."

Mira clutched a small locket they'd found, smiling softly. "She's at peace now."

Kain stretched, grumbling, "No one's paying us enough for this."

Suddenly, a janitor ran up.

"The pudding's STILL missing!"

They all froze.

Sylvia paled. "Wait… did we miss another ghost?"

Yujin sighed. "I need a vacation."

Funny Epilogue

That night, Kain opened his locker.

A single pudding cup sat inside.

With a note:

"Thanks for playing. — Lira"

Kain blinked.

"…I'm moving out of the dorms."
