Lyra's POV
I moved closer to Zarek, glancing back to Varin over my shoulder. I heaved a sigh of relief seeing the bastard standing just where I had left him, his monolid eyes squeezed smaller as they pinned themselves to my back.
Zarek stared ahead at me as he strode towards me, just as I was half-running to him. I glanced back at Varin again to make sure he was still where I had left him. When I turned back, Zarek had materialized before me. I stumbled into his broad body.
A massive jolt jarred through me at the suddenness of his presence. I gasped—a loud and sharp noise that split the silence in two around us—as I started away from him.
He grabbed onto my shoulders, pushing his face down to me. He shook me until I was staring into the crimson fillings of his eyes. "What happened, Lyra? Why are you so scared?" He asked, his voice low and genuine, staring straight into my eyes.
