Interlude
---
I stretched in bed; arm flung over my eyes. The wind outside was soft. Smelled like warm stone and fresh wood.
It'd been a month since he came back.
Gildarts Clive. My father.
Many things happened over the course of this month.
First of all —
A New House.
The old man had bought a house the day we met. Since the place he lived at was pretty shabby and not fit raise a child.
He had bought a rather big house for three people with. A two Storey house near the western forest since that place was very quiet and he had also bought the land around the house.
So, in all honesty. Gildarts was not just rich. He was wealthy.
And because of it. Ever since he came back, we had not taken a single job.
When I asked him about it. He easily replied with-
"I've got enough," he'd said, waving it off. "Been working too long, might as well burn it on you kids."
I smiled, remembering how casually he said it. Like buying land and a house was the same as picking up lunch. Gildarts never really cared about money. He just earned a lot of it because he was Gildarts. Simple as that.
He cared more about the adventure and the thrill.
Cana was also clearly happy.
Gildarts did his best. Really. He'd drop everything just to eat breakfast with us. Sometimes he'd mess up the kitchen trying to cook something weird.
Other times he'd fall asleep on the couch halfway through telling a story. He snored like a bear.
We trained a lot too.
"You are very strong for your age." He'd say, "I am proud of you."
He had taught me more about destruction magic than I had learned about it in years. About how I was subconsciously limiting my powers.
That alone had increased my power level.
He taught me how to pace my hit.
And it seems he also had fought a Giant back in his younger days in another continent and was surprised to learn my mother was a descendant of a Giant.
And during the topic of Giants. He had also learned about Tarot Gods. Though he did not know much but he also gave me many different books containing many Magics and Powers.
He had set up a library in our home and there were Lost Magic in it as well. I have still not yet tried though because of my busy schedule.
My training was not with Gildarts alone.
Porlyusica also got involved. She wasn't gentle.
"Pick that herb properly or I'll feed it to you wrong side first," she snapped once. I didn't test her twice.
She taught me about herbs, healing basics. Stuff most mages ignored. I didn't. I knew it would help me.
Rune Magic was harder.
I read alone in the guild library or sometimes take them home, scratching my head over old texts. Sometimes I'd ask Makarov a thing or two.
He wasn't an expert, but he liked seeing someone actually use the library for more than sleeping. He'd grumble but help.
We also partied alot. Having Gildarts around for just a month had helped renovate a guild alot.
Though it was not as rowdy as it would be years later but Fairy Tail was still Fairy Tail.
I also talked or rather tried to talk with Laxus, but he would rather ignore me. He had already formed his team.
I did not interfere since it was his choice.
And about Cana. Gildarts asked her if she wanted to join a school or something like that, but Cana refused, and Gildarts easily accepted.
She was everywhere with me.
Helping Porlyusica sort herbs, jumping on my back mid-spar, sneaking into the kitchen to make snacks that somehow ended up half burnt. She laughed more now. Smiled wider. Gildarts looked at her like he was trying to catch up on all the years he missed.
One night, we sat on the porch, just the two of us. Gildarts stared at the stars.
"I can't change the past," he said quietly. "But I won't leave again. Not for long jobs until you are at least strong enough and Cana is older."
"Sure Oldman."
He looked at me "Want to have a drink?"
"You don't have to ask twice."
Gildarts smirked and used reequip magic to bring out some whiskey.
"It was fun like this."
I had thought.
A smile appeared on my face thinking about how the month had passed.
I rolled over, the bedsheets rustling. Outside, wind shifted through trees. Soft. Familiar.
Before I could drift off, I raised my hand and checked my status.

I had still yet to get a new mission, and the 'unique skill' section was something I had gotten after learning Haki.
'I wonder what others unique skills I would learn.'
I drifted to sleep....

Winter came. Spring came. Summer came. Fall came and this cycle continued.
Time passed and before I knew it...
A year had gone by.
