"Why are you asking me such questions, daughter?" Mum asked, lifting up her gaze to meet mine.
"I'm sorry, Mum, but I need to know everything right now." I replied, my tone heavy with emotions.
Our eyes remained locked, and silence followed after. The air around felt tense with emotions, but after a while, tears started to stream down her cheeks.
My chest softened at those tears, and I found my hands wiping them off. Then she sniffled. My heart broke.
"Daughter, I have loved you as my own, given you everything you so much desired and made sure you never lacked. Is this the way you want to pay me back?" she spoke in between her tears, fighting to dry them off.
Her words hit me hard, and I involuntarily swallowed my saliva. A lone tear dropped down my eye. Those words felt like a heavy knot in my heart. Wouldn't it just be better to let go?
